I remember looking at the floor seats for anyone I would recognize and thinking "oh yeah Amanda's definitely down there" and from the stands across the arena I almost instantly spotted you, so that's another testament to your anomalous recognizability
While I can’t speak for the Chessboxing event, I was a VIP at Mogul Money Live (his game show event back in July). I had troubles with Ticketmaster and ended up paying for a ticket in the VIP section that Ticketmaster said I didn’t get benefits for. I made some posts online and Lud’s team found it and made sure that I not only got VIP benefits, but also let me be in the stream (I read the Mogul Multiplier in the third game). When I met Lud in the VIP line he recognized my face too. That’s all to say that not only does Lud run excellent events, but he and his team legitimately care about giving the audience a great experience and I’ll always look at him fondly for that.
He lost between 150 to 200k, but it was fully expected. These are basically passion projects for him, several of his major events including full blown smash tournaments have lost him a bunch as well, but hes a millionaire and largely doesnt mind. (Though I believe he did say that with what they learnt from this time around they could well make a small profit if they did it again.)
It's also good business sense to gain as much good will with people that he can so he can make money on future events like people were saying if he did paid PPV for his next event people would pay
On the latest Yard episode, they say the event is almost in the green. Probably would make a profit if they restock the merch that was sold out online in 10 minutes, but they wouldn't since it's event-exclusive, unless he decide to do it again next year.
Not only did Ludwig lose at his own event but he was against the guy who's literally known for losing that people call him Chokedawgva. He had all the odds stacked for him and still lost.
Connor only loses when someone have big protagonist energy(unfortunately for him, that includes some of his closest friends), otherwise he’s fairly competent. lol
Jerma is such a naturally hilarious and entertaining dude. He's always seemed to me that he enjoys entertaining people, he's always read as very passionate simply because of how charismatic he is even outside of his streams.
idk why i wasn't expecting Amanda to cover this event but HELL I'M SO GLAD SHE IS!! I've been following Abroad in Japan and CDawgva for a while so it is like a little youtube crossover to see amanda cover an event that they were a part of :D Edit: also, Connor won by a fraction of a second.
I know! I'm so excited. It's like a little crossover with your favorite TV shows except they're TH-camrs. I also find it funny that she didn't know the affable man joke but people kept telling her to say it anyways
Fellow TT fan hello! Same. Overtflow coming out was legit terrifying although I checked out the German dude originally scheduled and he looked even scarier TBH. Mr Affable won tho and it was so exciting.
as a TT fan this video feels like such a Crossover Event for me, same level of excitement as when That’s So Sweet Life of Hannah Montana originally aired.
Ludwig has his company where they produce live events for streamers and a majority of his close friends (including all of his co-hosts on The Yard podcast) have background in live event planning, so this just goes to show how skilled they actually are at event planning, which means we as viewers will only get better content in the future!
I was thinking about how this being a "loss" might not be the case because it was an excellent advertisement. Kind of like "look how good we are now, in a few years when this is all I do, you will remember how cool this was".
This feels like a bunch of universes have merged. Ludwig and Jerma physically being with CDawgVA and Abroad In Japan and you went to watch it. What the hell happened?
I love Ludwig. I think he really brings new things to events. I went to his 50 hour glass box event, and that was really cool. We got to just sit outside and watch him for as long as we wanted to. We could interact with him, watch him stream, etc. I think that was a really cool a rewarding twist on a meet and greet where normally you get 2 seconds to say hi to someone then they’re gone. It was also really cool watching someone you’ve watched on livestreams for hours and hours doing it in really time right before your eyes.
Man this honestly sounds like the most well run event you've been too In quite a while. I'm just happy to hear you and your Dad finally were legitimately entertained at one of these events.
In case you were interested, Ludwig kind of provided an all-telling-view of the event from his side during his stream yesterday, it was pretty interesting, for sure was a loss (about $200k at least) for him, and honestly if the stream were paid, I likely would've paid
True I would've likely paid too. But what I always appreciate about Ludwig is despite him always talking about the Mogul Moves, at the end of the day, he actually really doesn't care about the money. He's already made his bank, he's making enough on his different TH-cam channels to pay all of his employees and mods well. He just wants to make as good of an event as he can and he wants as many people to see it as they can. Cause the more eyes on it, the more of people talk about it and the more of a spectacle it'll become
I wouldn't have paid for this one, just because I had no way of knowing what the quality of the event would be prior. If he does another, I'd ppv, I was very satisfied with how things were done.
When they were calling to the crowd looking for someone to slap Ludwig, I legitimately expected to see MoistCritical walk out of a cloud of smoke. I love Connor so I'm glad he was the replacement. But dang. I really hoped it would be Charlie
In Lugwig's podcast (The Yard #75) they briefly mentioned that regarding the money they made on the event, they were "really close to being in the green" So they didn't make the money back but it was still more than they thought was gonna be made.
Chessboxing's always been an insane sport; I'm glad to see it finally getting more coverage after so long, especially with so many TH-camrs! Glad to see the whole TH-camr Boxing shebang evolving 🥰
Honestly I'm so stoked this is actually a thing. I have low interest in either sport separately but together? Hell he's. Plus influencers being silly? Amazing. 10/10
Honestly I prefer the security being a bit too strict compared to them just not doing their job right. They need to communicate better but hey maybe they can have another chessboxing event in the future and can fix this.
The “i take my dad to everything” relationship y’all have is like the cooler and more fun version of the “i bring my mom to everything” relationship I currently have lol
Hey Amanda !! Apparently, Michelle Khare is looking for someone to fight in a boxing match. And she wants to fight someone who's a 5'2 female! I think you said before that you would want to do something like that and I think that's how tall you said you are?? (She talked about this on Eat with Keith on the Try Guy's channel's livestream this last Tuesday, and someone in the chat mentioned you! I hope you're able to do this if you want to!!)
This was SO ENTERTAINING!!! I feel like I was so much more invested because a lot of them were chess players that never really boxed, and it’s usually pretty entertaining seeing two people who’ve never been in a fight box each other. I was actually very invested in the chess too, I used to play a lot when I was younger and seeing them under pressure made it a lot more entertaining. Huge shout out to Andrea too, she was entertainer of the night 100% and I’m glad the “controversy” over their match was addressed by Ludwig.
Her and Dina made a clip on Twitter still talking shit but it was in person so it’s all in good fun. Both of them are great entertainers and their shit talking was definitely a highlight.
Hell yeah, Chris (Abroad in Japan) is definitely an affable man! A nickname he's gotten as a guest on the Trash Taste podcast :) And I didn't know about this event either, until I heard about it on the Trash Taste podcast, like a bit over a month ago. Just by pure chance in other words.
If you want a reason for it being a slap fight. Connor wanted to participate, but has a condition where he doesn't clot blood well. So he couldn't do an actual boxing match.
I am not surprised that this was so good. Ludwig really goes hard on making stuff like this perfect and my understanding is that he's slowly transitioning away from TH-cam and streaming over the next few years to focus on his company that specifically will contract with people to help them make successful events of their own.
If a board flip was going to happen it probably would have been the Myth v Cherdleys fight. I watched about half of the whole stream and I was surprised how invested I was
The first time I heard "chessboxing" I assumed it was a life-size chessboard with human pieces where you'd box to take the other piece out. The reality is something of a letdown, but this video was great.
Same here! My thought jumps to Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter. I imagined the players must dress like chesspieces, move according to the rules, and knock each other out when they encounter.
I'm jealous you got to talk to Jerma, I used to watch his TF2 videos religiously and was really bummed when he moved to Twitch but he's been doing some really cool stuff there and his personality transcends typical "influencers" in a way where being a chess boxing announcer just honestly made sense.
i love SO much how this was a big moment for the chess community!! its such a small, tightknit group of people I've seen from afar and found so fascniating, and I also love that you were surrounded by them so u could pick up what you may have missed. Overall, beyond hype that the event was a success. Ludwig has been making rad moves and while he deffo didnt profit, i hope he does more events like these with bigger advertising bc he really could pull it off, and well.
Its funny how only 3 or 4 years ago when things like tanacon happened it was unthinkable for youtubers to organise events and now streamers and youtubers have basically perfected it.
One thing that really impressed me was the actual chess boxer they had commentating on the stream. He was great and a natural, everyone did so well, it was a great event to watch.
I watched most of the livestream and it was way more entertaining than I thought it would be. Like I’ve watched other influencer boxing stuff and I’ve always been kinda bored but the chess boxing was so well done I was super entertained the whole time
Seeing Amanda talk about Mr. Affable and Connor is the sort of crossover I wasn't expecting when I clicked on the thumbnail. Now we need her to somehow get on Trash Taste. Amanda, hop onto a plane to Japan and sneak into their studio. We know you can do it!
something I've actually heard of for basically the first time since I found your channel! can't wait to watch this I remember seeing all the streamer reactions on twitter at the time and i can't wait to hear your experience always a delight to hear your takes on various events, you're genuinely a delight to listen to when I'm doing various tasks and want to hear something interesting
I nominate Amanda to fight Valkyrae. 5'2 v 5'3.5. I think it could be pretty even and VERY entertaining. She even said herself she would fight someone if she wasn't super close with them. Both of ya'll seem to have the same energy towards boxing.
I live in New Jersey, so I couldn't go to this event. But I watched the entire thing, and now the next time he holds an event, I want to go in person. It was so enjoyable. And yes, I would love to see you box and knock tf out of someone.
fellow NJ citizen here, wish more creator events were on the east coast for us haha. also watched from home and it was so fun. i plan i trying to make it to the next creator clash at least!! maybe the east coast vidcon too if i’m lucky :)
Yeah, John Green introduced Chess Boxing to me in the first year of Vlogbrothers, back when the Nerdfighter Lore was being established. It would be cool to see it live, but I don't think I could get myself to actually watch through a screen.
I was there as well. One of the first non-VIP ticket owners through the doors. The security was largely self contained. With each section having one at the door. They were employed by the Galen Center itself. Had a wonderful conversation with one of them. Glad this was my first event. Definitely going to more now. An awesome experience.
honestly i cant watch boxing or ufc cause im really sensitive to violence, so when those scenes come on i just look away or scroll down and listen to your commentary (which is so good btw)! i caught this event live on youtube and im happy to know it was just as fun if not more IRL!
one thing about ur videos is i find ur relationship with ur dad so wholesome. it reminds me of my relationship with my father and i just love u talking about doing fun activities with ur dad.
So I watched the stream and I was absolutely the person that watched the chess part but played my game during the boxing part. I loved seeing all of them having fun and it was awesome to hear Levy commentate the chess. Yay, more people being exposed to chess! Thanks for the video!
I tuned in for Mr Affable but stayed because it was too damn entertaining. The commentary was great and Matt, a former chessboxing world champion, was a highlight. Loved the whole thing, surprising since Im usually not too hot on boxing. Great to hear the in-person event was just as good. Not an L for once! Would like to see more smashboxing next time, that was great.
as a competitive smash player for over a decade, it makes me so happy to see people realize how great it is even as a spectator esport. Ludwig originally started from the smash community too.
I was surprised how professionally put together the ring and stage entrances were. I can tell Ludwig spent a lot of money on this event because it looked like a pro boxing/ wrestling set-up. I was also surprised that Ludwig didn't get flamed for slapping together that Andrea and Dina fight.
I love that to set up the main event, they essentially cut promos to get Ludwig vs Cdawgva. I kind of need a TH-camr Pro Wrestling event now, it will be an absolute mess but it'd be funny
I think it's a testament to how likeable Amanda is that I have been watching her for over a year despite never knowing who she's talking about 😅 The only people I recognized here were Chris and Connor. Seriously, how do I never know the massive TH-camrs/streamers these videos are about? Well in any case, the videos are always enjoyable! Great work, Amanda!
Michelle Khare is looking for a 5'2 boxing competitor! She said so on "Eat with Keith LIVE A KFC Dinner Experience", starting at the 18:55 minute mark. She said, "I am looking for a competitor...for boxing. So if anybody is a youtuber, female, 5'2, 115 lbs..." and then trailed off
im genuinely so glad i caught the livestream for this event. ludwig always puts his everything into his events and this one was phenomenal. i never watch livestreams, boxing, or chess but this kept me on the edge of my seat for the full 5 and a half hours i watched
Was looking forward to this video. I generally don't keep up with any of these events, and often the first time I hear of them is when you do your review, but I follow Ludwig, sometimes watch his streams, and watch most of his videos, so I was actually aware of this event and somewhat excited for it. Watched the live stream, it was fun, nice to see the event was also fun to be there in person
I remember looking at the floor seats for anyone I would recognize and thinking "oh yeah Amanda's definitely down there" and from the stands across the arena I almost instantly spotted you, so that's another testament to your anomalous recognizability
I love how there are things now that we hear about and can go "oh yeah, Amanda is checking that out for sure" 😂😂
I spotted her too 😂

AB from H3 was there also
hearing someone actually confirm jerma's existence irl is always surreal

I can’t believe I missed you in Chicago!!!
Big fan of Ludwig so I went to this event!! The production value was amazing and it was so cool to experience live :)
one thing about ur videos is i find ur relationship with ur dad so wholesome. it reminds me of my relationship with my father and i just love u talking about doing fun activities with ur dad.
I just wanna say your relationship with your dad is the best thing I’ve ever seen
So I watched the stream and I was absolutely the person that watched the chess part but played my game during the boxing part. I loved seeing all of them having fun and it was awesome to hear Levy commentate the chess. Yay, more people being exposed to chess! Thanks for the video!
Chris ‘abroad in Japan’ was a BEAST
Edit: shout out to your Dad!
Hypothetical fight match-up idea: Amanda vs. Amanda (Swell Entertainment vs. Amanda the Jedi)
I’m so glad a lot of people ended up loving this event. Ludwig is the GOAT man ludwig7.
Feeling second hand pride for all the Jerma praise, like that's my guy!
Aman Hambleton vs. Lawrence Trent was actually the highest rated chess boxing match of all time.
WOOO i was waiting for this one bc i knew you'd be there the moment i heard about the event!!
Jeremy was a good inclusion in the ring.
I lost my shit when you called him an affable man
it was fun seeing Chris (Broad) and ConnorDawgVoiceActor in a Swell vid. Glad you likely enjoyed the experience.
the stream experience was really great as well, im glad you had a good time :)
I love how supportive your pops is.
omg i knew that you were there I was lowkey trying to find you but yeah it was surprisingly really fun !!
I was surprised how professionally put together the ring and stage entrances were. I can tell Ludwig spent a lot of money on this event because it looked like a pro boxing/ wrestling set-up. I was also surprised that Ludwig didn't get flamed for slapping together that Andrea and Dina fight.
Fun fact, the weekend of the When We Were Young Festival, Ludwig was hosting a smash tournament at the Luxor at the same time
I had no idea Chris broad was gonna be boxing, that’s so funny
I love that to set up the main event, they essentially cut promos to get Ludwig vs Cdawgva. I kind of need a TH-camr Pro Wrestling event now, it will be an absolute mess but it'd be funny
jerma sightings are always a treat. he did great! his jerma rumbles and tf2 content will always be my fave. i need to meet that psychopath one day.
lowkey reminds me of Creator Clash when Michael Reeves just gained power with every hit he took and absolutely demolished everyone
Andrea didn’t loose because she ran out of time, Andrea resigned because Dina has a mate in 1
LET👏AMANDA👏FIGHT👏
I think it's a testament to how likeable Amanda is that I have been watching her for over a year despite never knowing who she's talking about 😅
The only people I recognized here were Chris and Connor. Seriously, how do I never know the massive TH-camrs/streamers these videos are about? Well in any case, the videos are always enjoyable! Great work, Amanda!
Amanda's dad being her plus one gives me so much joy.
Michelle Khare is looking for a 5'2 boxing competitor! She said so on "Eat with Keith LIVE A KFC Dinner Experience", starting at the 18:55 minute mark. She said, "I am looking for a competitor...for boxing. So if anybody is a youtuber, female, 5'2, 115 lbs..." and then trailed off
YESSSS i was praying you were gonna do this.
Seeing Connor in an Amanda video? What is this a crossover episode??
im genuinely so glad i caught the livestream for this event. ludwig always puts his everything into his events and this one was phenomenal. i never watch livestreams, boxing, or chess but this kept me on the edge of my seat for the full 5 and a half hours i watched
Amanda "Swell" Golka, the newest chessboxing commentator.
Literally waited all week for this!
Let Swell fight! Let Swell fight!
Was looking forward to this video. I generally don't keep up with any of these events, and often the first time I hear of them is when you do your review, but I follow Ludwig, sometimes watch his streams, and watch most of his videos, so I was actually aware of this event and somewhat excited for it. Watched the live stream, it was fun, nice to see the event was also fun to be there in person
this event seemed so exciting, if they did these again id totally try and go
IM SO GLAD YOU WENT TO THIS YES
I appreciate how you approached the negatives as constructive criticism
