Here is a video edit in tribute to one of my favourite characters in videogame history. Niko Bellic's story is so tragic and interesting that I just had to make a video about it. His character alone solidifies GTA IV as my favourite Rockstar game.

Seeing Johnny and Luis' perspectives to the city makes me forget what Niko's sees to Liberty City as gritty and depressing.
The worst part? Is that Niko is the one protagonist who never had any happy ending... Which makes him, ironically, the most relatable one, as happy endings are only in stories..

@X_Milky CJ was indeed the first TRULY charismatic character from GTA.
Almost all the 3D era characters are mostly the player's vehicle to move, but CJ compared with Tommy and Claude was more human and had more natural interactions with his world and story. We love Claude and Tommy for how WE shape them and YOU are the badass, but CJ is loved by how HE IS shaped and we know HE is the badass.
That's the difference between him and other protagonists. With the HD era R* made a better job in balancing the player and the character role (and that's how we ended with complex characters like Niko or Michael)

@X_Milky Johnny is better than CJ? Come on. CJ did a lot of things such as breaking into Area 69 , killed a lot of people who are his enemies in 4 cities and 3 states , expanded GSF gang territories and owned a lot of things in the end. While Johnny isn't much charismatic nor deadly and he got killed by Trevor in GTA 5. I guess you might be Algonquin Assassin or Ahmedmfroezspeed user from GTAforums webpage , Both of that users frequently underestimate CJ , I've browsed into GTAforums several times in last year , Most users in that webpage kinda fighting each other for their opinion of GTA protagonists but a few people who said CJ is not badass nor charismatic nor strong sound stupid to me according to his feats and bodycount (Although CJ acted soft to Catalina and Tenpenny but he actually has some points to acted soft to both of them while he acted tough to others).

Niko Bellic is literally my all-time favorite games character. I feel sympathy for him, especially as eastern European. The writing was so damn good and it became even better, knowing that a ever since USSR and Yugoslavia fell, a lot of eastern European nations went into difficult times, making Niko Bellic's depressive life true to a lot of people out here in different forms, not just war. The people in the countries between baltic and black seas fell into deep economical crash because of needing to restart their whole country as a whole machine. As a result the people struggled to put food on the table and mafia became the new police there. You could be shot in the head and nobody would care except for your close people. In the Balkan countries it resulted in bloody war, where entire cities would be could out from resources and such. It was truly dark. And Rockstar did hell of a job by portraying a depressed eastern European war veteran. The way he understands after the war what kind of terrible things he has done by killing innocent children in war so brutally and such and that he is a creature without a soul just hits so deep. I'd take this story over a weird silent guy, Tony Montana copy paste, black gansgter in the hood or a Hollywood style dynamic trio anyday. Those games were good, but many will agree the story of GTA IV was best.

Yeah its meant to be a mocking tone - a depressing victory. Yeah you "won" but you didn't really. That's how life is. Isolating yourself, cutting off everyone you know, fucking over your friends, selling out, just to get that money and get ahead to "win" but who is left? Nobody. Just you and your money. Then you die alone and bankrupt when that money ruins out because you spent it all on booze and pills or lavish things to counter the crushing depression of isolation until you are left bitter and old with nobody that cares about you and you're nothing but a footnote in the obituary pages....if you get one at all.

GTA IV has to be the best game in the entire series. It's the most down to earth, gritty, deep, dark and realistic installment in the whole franchise. The story is one of the best stories in video game history and it's gritty, concrete jungle atmosphere stands alone amongst the rest of the GTA games. Liberty City is the perfect setting for such a sad, gloomy and depraved storyline such as Niko Bellic's. Great game, Rockstar struck gold with IV

I always feel sad when ever I watch this video, however niko explains how harsh life can get. The things you do for money or respect can come with sacrifices and will have a big impact on your life. It’s like knowing the truth about life and being depressed, but I rather know the truth and be depressed, Rather than being happy and not realizing my life is a lie.

What I like the most about Niko compared to other GTA protagonists is that, hes the only one who actually tries to change and leave his criminal past behind him.
Same with Michael, and he mostly did.
Same with Franklin, all he ever wanted was to leave the hood and live a peaceful life with no conflicts.

GTA IV, is the magnum opus of Rockstar, nothing will ever top it in terms of writing,storyline and characters. Niko Bellic’s tale of an immigrant, trying to survive in the cold and unforgiving Liberty City, constantly haunted by the ghosts of his past. The American Dream that was promised to him by Roman was just that, a dream, that immigrants from Slavic countries can come to America, and make a life within the land of opportunity. The war ruined Niko, his soul crushed, and ripped out after the things that he witnessed.

Honestly GTA 5 has all the hilarious and over the top moments that make us laugh, but this GTA introduced me to grief and reality at a very young age. A game before it's time, fantastic edit!

Despite being empty and broken his past, he still has compassion left in him. He makes sure his friends, even people he's seen only once in his life, you truly feel like niko when meeting some of the people he helps barely knowing them. Niko gives people hope when he lost his a long time ago.
Its dark tone is why 4 will always be my favorite. At the end, there was no true victory. Niko may have tied up loose ends, but at what cost.
For real, 4 actually was a deep introspective story. The best one, in my opinion, despite all the improvements in gameplay with their newer games

Its criminal that the 3D trilogy is getting all the remaster love and GTA 5 for the 3rd fucking time but GTA 4 hasn’t had so much of a fucking port and its one of the most brutal and darkest stories Ive ever played but shit is it so much more relatable than the shit you do in 5

Niko Bellic is a type of dude that you'd really like to have as a bodyguard but hella not as an enemy. Looking from some non related to him person's perspective, Niko is very scary and dangerous hitman. Even Johnny admits that during the Museum fight. Ray was also scared of Niko. It was visible, even though he always tried to act tougher than him. Trevor is also scary, but in some way, sometimes Niko is even scarier than him.
I believe that Niko is scarier because Trevor is a psychopath who is overly emotional and can feel good about things he’s done or feels terrible or both. Niko doesn’t have any emotions after the war. He’s more of a sociopath. He’s seen things happen to a point where he is numb to most death and violence. He’s got no remorse except for the people he holds dear. So if you’re not his inner circle, he’ll kill you and never think twice about it.

@@mithatilhan6390 I think Michael is just an angry guy who doesn’t know any other way to behave no matter how badly he wants to have a normal family. He’s delusional to a point where he believes he is the person that he wants to be until he realizes he’s not that person. He’s not nearly as powerful as Niko or Trevor. He’s mainly just a fat middle aged man with an extreme temper. I believe that that’s why he’s not as powerful because if you approached him, he’s completely fine. He can act normal, he can be decent to an extent, but if you aggravate him he will possibly attack. But he’ll attack despite if he can win the fight and being angry only makes him slightly more powerful.
I think that the part where niko talks about dead children and women, he is talking about the Bosnian war, in which 8372 women, children, and old people were brutally murdered by the army gang called "Arkan tigers" it doesnt mean that niko was a part of this army gang, he was probably one of the patrol army men that would patrol the city of Srebrenica where that happened, the part where he says he had to swim to survive a ambush is made up by the writers of gta IV's story. I am from Bosnia and this game hit hard for me, i wasnt mad at the Protagonist, or rockstar, because the game mentioned these events, i was happy that a person (Or at least a video game character) saw what was wrong and what was right. I hope for the best for my Serbian Croatian and my Montenegro neighbor's, and i dont wish death or unlucky situations for Serbs Croats or people of Montenegro, we are all human beings and we should respect each others not by their nationality, or race, we are all the same species and should threat one another the same. attacked Bosnia, and in Srebrenica 8372 young women, children, mothers, and old people died

The story of GTA 4 is so deep. It’s not “some revenge mission,” and it’s not a generic shooter set in a generic city. There is so much character and world building in everything. But it’s slow, not spoon fed. The missions tend to fall into a pattern of “drive here, kill this guy/these guys,” but is that a problem? “None of you will stop me from killing Jimmy P,” he had done everything he could to get buy. The amusing missions of San Andreas don’t fit in with the gritty atmosphere.
GTA 4 is the best
I love this game's story too. Even it's gameplay is good. The map is cool, the rag doll physics, The Swing set of Death, the driving can be annoying but most of the time I like it because it feels satisfying to control, the fighting mechanics, you can hangout with multiple people, and some fun activities. It also has great music. Good loading theme song, good main theme song, and it's in game radio is my favorite. It. Truly is the best GTA. At least for me.
I never completed the game until recently and the story was pretty forgettable tbh I think people are blinded by nostalgia and the fact that people keep making videos on "GTA 4 is better then GTA 5 xdddd"
@@beyond_5dtemp Trevor is ridiculous as a character, Michael and his family are just so cliché and boring, and Franklin had absolutely no character at all. The driving is not satisfying at all, the combat system sucks, the ragdolls are terrible, nothing about GTA V is satisfying. They went backwards with it, IV evolved the series, V devolved it.

I don't know if it's just me but Niko's look on his face at this scene 0:53 is so powerful. You can literally see the psychic damage, the war did to him in his dead eyes and his depressed face. Niko Bellic has got to be the best written character in the whole GTA series...
GTA IV was Rockstar's best storytelling before a certain western series came along. And even now, outside the Red Dead series, it's still stands tall as their best story to date and Rockstar's first foray into genuinely complex, mature storytelling with a layered protagonist in Niko Bellic. And an atmosphere that made you feel like you're the playable character as you traverse the almost suffocating, gray soaked streets of Liberty City.

I feel like GTA IV was way ahead of it's time. If IV had been the Vth entry in the series, it would have been held in higher regard than it is. A lot more mature gamers out there these days, and IV is simply the most mature GTA game.
I think gta 4 didn't get the recognition it deserves due to poor optimization and the lack of content compared to the previous gta. I can say that gta 4 had the best story and the best character development.It also had great physics.
@@Edi-zp4wp that's exactly it. If it came out today the optimization would be better, plus hardware would handle it. Also, it has alot of content but it's more subtle than SA was. I think the way IV delivers it's content is for a more mature audience.

Wish I could erase my memory and play this again. My god, I fell in love with these characters much more than any other GTA game. Niko was brilliant protagonist, the friends and allies were someone you could care for too. Even if they did not appear a lot like Mallory. The villains like Dimitri were perfectly made like manipulating you into killing Mikhail Faustin, making you want revenge just like Niko Bellic. This sad story will take a long time to be overtaken by another story, it will take a long time to get a better story. GTA V is good, but it doesn’t go that deep, rather looking like a game made by Hollywood.
Ngl this got me a little emotional. When this game came out, it was such a simpler and very memorable time for me. I will probably never love a game as much as I do GTA IV

GTA 4 is based off the dark new york while GTA 5 is based off the colorful vibrant los angeles. a bit off topic but I wonder what we could base GTA SA off of. I mean we have los angeles, san francisco, and las vegas in the same game

I can't believe how life changed, since I played this masterpiece. back then when I was a child I played this game for fun, for steal cars, kill people and etc. but now I realize Nikos perspective. if you play this game carefully, hear it deeply you will see that, somehow we all are similar to Niko. we all been very young and very angry and done thing that shouldn't done. yeah maybe we didn't kill people butt sometimes Our words were sharper than Knife and deadlier than bullet.

I swear GTA IV makes you think again about every single moves you make. That is if you play it with attention. I found myself feeling bad for the cops I was shooting at some times. Some might say it's just a game, but for the few of us who know, GTA IV is an experience.

Not Even all money, cars, luxury or material things you have, will make you happy if your soul it's broken or u have an existential vacuum deliberated from an trauma or soul injury, Even when You try to get Revenge, none of those things will fill you out, thats something what Niko learned after killing darko and Dimitri, or taking the money from the heroin and Román diying after that...
GTA4 is honestly one of the greatest experiences in gaming and Niko is up there with John and Arthur as one of the best protagonists.

I honestly feel like a lot of people missed how dark Niko's history really was. Most of lines about it are short and off the cuff. I mean the first time he talks about it they treat it like a joke with Roman falling asleep and shit. Plus it gets overshadowed a lot by the main plot.

I know this may sound weird but Niko Bellic reminds me a lot of my mother, she always reflects on her past to others and is very wise and knows a lot about enemies and human nature, she's always helping family and she's always 1 step ahead of others when it comes to conflict. Just like NB.

GTA IV was a surprisingly competent commentary on war and the destructive path of revenge. I’d like to see a return to this kind of GTA.

Niko would mop the floor with Trevor and every GTA protoganists in the franchise... I mean everyone. His military training, mastering the Krav Maga and other deadly fightning styles and especially his tragic life made him an ice cold killer. But he still has his humanity, he is still a good man just like Roman said. He always wanted a peaceful life. Thats why I felt so happy when Lester said he finally retired. He deserved that. Its 2021 and he is still the best GTA character ever...

@@san_murat_131 Plus the thing about Trevor VS Niko is that Trevor is a psycho, Niko isn’t. Trevor is deranged which makes him vulnerable, Niko has no emotional weaknesses, it’s his attachments that are his weaknesses AND his strengths. Like if someone were to hold Roman at gunpoint and demand all of Niko’s money, he’d likely give them it (then shoot them in the back once Roman was free 😂) but Trevor would just shoot them while Michael was held. Trevor is emotionally unstable and weaker than Niko. Sure, Niko COULD be a cannibal (and given he had done such atrocities during the war I’d say he probably was at some point) but he has morals and Trevor has his own that are bent and twisted. Trevor is weaker than Niko as a character physically and story wise

Damn... I felt Niko's tragic story throughout this game. And I can agree niko's backstory and character alone makes GTA 4 my favorite GTA game of all time.

The darkness and mourning that Niko carries within himself is one of the best aspects of the character that sometimes let himself see through a dialogue or a scene. This character needs to come back, after everything they have learned about narrative with Red Dead Redemption I and II, Niko story could be even greater than what it was in GTA IV

Gta 4 actually is an only gta that has a seriously dark and deep story and because I am from the past yugoslavian countries I can understand him he definitely saw some deep shit in the war and he is lucky it didn't affect him to the point where he was going to end it all

I wish the story was longer, loved everything about all the characters. They are really more than just one worded characters, you could go on and on about the descriptions and personalities of the characters in the game. And the activities are actually interesting. Like the comedy shows which are pretty funny, and bowling which honestly you can't go wrong with a bit of bowling and much more. Just love every little detail this game has.

When you realize all of the war crimes that the US did, and also how they secretly supplied the USSR with weapons, ammo, etc, then it is the moment that you realize that the america doesn't have a soul.
