I always liked Longview, but it was never really even in my Green Day top 20. But when it kicks in around the 10min mark, you can see Billie feeling the train pulling out of the indie station and into the big time. By the next Spring, they done blown up the East Coast. It was awesome. Really apprec this one, and happy to say I put Dookie on the shelf when it came out at a Musicland location in Feb 94!
@OrangeYTT interesting... I thought they would have been banned as soon as they signed to a major. Maybe it took a while for word to get out since it was pre-internet?
@@blonkeddleharvey2308 I think you underestimate how long it takes a collective like Gilman to decide anything and also how much the club needed the $$ Green Day on the bill brought in.
oh man, don't get me started. it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anything approved through the collective... many of who have never even had their own bank account.
I found some information somewhere that Green Day was not banned in Gilman Street, but Billie was guilty because he was caught drinking alcohol in the toilet with some people and he didn't want to apologize for his behavior, which ended up with the band being banned from performing in Gilman

So funny how they’re talking about watching the mtv video music awards the night before. Almost exactly a year later they were playing there.
Even better; they were asked to play Basket Case then decided “we’re playing a new song no one’s heard before”, and pull out Armatage Shanks.

They played Gilman in September 1993? I thought they were banned from the club after they signed to Reprise in April 1993.

Was that the first time they played 'Coming Clean'?
It's very possible that they've played it even before that but this is the first know and documented performance of it
