If there's one QB getting roasted more than marshmallows at a bonfire, it’s Brock Purdy from the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. This dude's journey from being Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 draft to straight-up slaying as the most efficient QB in the whole dang NFL has got the league shook, like, shooketh to its core! But, why's my man Brock gotta deal with all this shade and hate? Like, seriously, it's like he's got a target on his back for no real reason. So, let's take a trip down memory lane and figure out where all this drama started and why Brock Pie's become the punching bag of the NFL.

How is what he did since getting into the league not elite? Should of went to the Superbowl last year. Went this year. Had the best stats all year almost. Led the best and scariest offense this season. He went toe to toe with Mahomes with a worse offensive line and nobody getting open all Superbowl. That secondary is easily the best in the league. No question. He did all he could that game. Lost by 3 in OT because Shanahan is a moron and chose to recieve and Wilks played a shit soft prevent defense so far off the line the DBs were lined up past the first down marker. Why do that the last two drives out of nowhere? Do what you were doing all game. The coaches lost that game. Not Purdy.

As a Chiefs fan, I thought this would be a close game. I have a lot of respect for Brock. How he wasn't a higher pick in the draft is baffling.

The truth of the matter is, when Brock Purdy is successful, it’s a slap to the face of all the scouts and talent assessment personnel that they don’t know what the hell they’re talking about and don’t know what they’re doing when judging these kids athletic future. They suck and should reassess everything they use to assess these kids.
moto, I don't agree. The whole of the scouts didn't think he was NFL caliber. He simply slipped through the cracks and they misjudged his intangibles. Of course they can assess talent very well or the level of NFL play would be terrible. Go Niners.
I think you’re both correct to some degree but we have to recognize the fact that he was drafted by an NFL team which means out of thousands of potential recruits he made it in a class of less than 300…that’s a worthy achievement for a player.

I'm actually glad my HS coach isn't around to see the things 'professionals' are doing these days. Remember when they used to tackle in football? Keep edge contain? Look for the ball when covering receivers? Remember when a 6 foot Quarterback COULDN'T carry an entire defense into the endzone with him. I don't even know wtf I'm watching anymore.

They drove down the field very well early game. look st a lot ofthe plays that he missed and look at the pressure he had. then look at how much of that pressure was just blown blocking from offensive line.

Brock Purdy was the REAL MVP. His stats, his achievements, and the fact a full first-year rookie was able to take his team to the Super Bowl, that’s MVP to me. NFL and the so-called “analysts” and “experts” are so biased and robbed this young man of his rightfully deserved MVP Award.
Not only that, Purdy came back and balled out after his ucl injury.

It heart break me more that knowing this kid was robbed of a Super Bowl by his own team mistakes. I have no doubt in my mind he’ll have a couple of super bowls under his belt in a few years. They hate the kid because he’s not that stigma of being better than the team he plays with and for the team and everything is with team. I remember when sports media loved a good underdog story…..or an unexpected success story. I’ve seen people remark that he gets scrutinized because he is religious, doesn’t look the part of a QB, not athletic. I agree with that. It’s not fair. What I love about Brock is, he doesn’t care. His stats speak for themselves. I laugh when talking heads of the media say I don’t care about stats, they don’t mean anything to me or not that much to me…Colin Cowherd. That’s rediculous. Stats are a result of production on the field, or lack there of. All the QB stats that are important, Purdy is Top 5. With a new DC, better O Line, if the Niners and Chiefs meet again in the Superbowl, I believe they’ll win. Purdy didn’t lose the Super Bowl. Special Teams did, and also when the D had to make stops later in the game, they couldn’t. And Chiefs D Line was bullying the Niners O Line, especially in the 2nd half. Can’t run the ball, or go through pass progressions, or get to the outside and scramble, if the O Line isn’t blocking.
Purdy is getting the Tim Tebow treatment. Athletes are allowed to be grateful to God after the games, but youre only supposed to go through the motions. Youre not actually supposed to be Christian.

It is just a littleeeee bit funny that it was purdy vs Mahomes and purdy’s dad played minor league baseball and Mahomes’s dad played Major League Baseball. That being said Mahomes is the best in the league. Brock purdy is a qb that I would pick over most in the league because he has that clutch mentality for sure and he’s very good at reading the defense and he’s able to handle the big moments. They didn’t lose the super bowl because of Brock purdy and I was glad for that as a chiefs fan because the media would’ve roasted him alive for that. Their season stats were very close with Purdy having 4 more TDs.
Purdy's first year as a starter stats do not compare to Mahome's first year as a starter stats. Purdy has talent. Is he as good as Mahomes? We will have to see. No one has had stats for their first 7 seasons like Mahomes. Not even Brady.

The top quarterback was Tua with 4600 + yards and it took him way more attempts and he played a full season. Next yard BCB destroys everyone 💯 look it up
That's a really good point. I'm just worried since the team was stacked and there's little holes for improvement, I don't see how we'll get back next year. Plus, Mahomes is a straight beast and on another level copard to every other quarterback in the league. He's clutch and always finds a way to win. We need a Mahomes.

@@Ray-sj2iw Brady sucked regular season wise in the beginning of his career. NFL was more run heavy back then anyway. It was only later on when Belichek let Brady pass more that he got the regular season MVP and the perfect season record.

Purdy is going to have a WAYYY better offensive line in the future especially with the 11 draft picks coming up in the 2024 draft. People put way too much emphasis on flashy skill positions when the game is won in the trenches where either the defensive line dictates to the QBs by getting through and getting in his face, pressuring and hitting him constantly forcing him to throw the ball sooner than he would like, or the offensive line dictates dominating the defensive line and line of scrimmage where the QB has the time to enforce his will and get the ball out to his targets due to the time he gets from his offensive line playing in clean pockets.
The game is won and lost in the trenches first and foremost (the skill positions are secondary to great line play). People get this crap messed up because all they see are the flashy players not the blockers who actually decide the game. The 49ers unfortunately have a bottom tier offensive line ranked in the bottom third of the league and near last in pass protection. It was the reason Purdy has always had to get the ball out lightning quick, scramble, or play in dirty pockets, why they missed the PAT where they would’ve won the game, or that play to Deebo where Chris Jones got to Purdy on a missed blocking assignment on the right side by both Colton and Burford which would’ve ended the game with a touchdown.
Turnovers and special teams aside, the offensive line was the main weakness of the 49ers all year and the reason they lost the Super Bowl. John Lynch the GM will address this in the off-season. Even if they lose an all pro skill position player or 2, a great offensive line can quite easily make up for that. A great offensive line can make an average quarterback look good and an above average QB look elite. Just because teams change and look different doesn’t mean there isn’t going to be improvement in another area that will make them equally as good or sometimes even better.
For example just looking at the Cheifs this year they had one of the greatest defenses in their franchise history who didn’t allow more than 27 points all year. Mahomes statistically didn’t even crack the top 5 in most categories like previous years and yet his defense was the best he’s ever had that made up for his down year. That’s often what happens when you have good management with team shifts. They still figure out a way to win. The 49ers are going to be good overall for the next decade. They have good management, good recruiters, and good coaches and as players move on they will pivot and shift with new teams that have different strengths previous to the last one.
If Purdy had a stronger right side of the O line , he would be a superbowl champion too

I’m not a 49ers fan, but Purdy is a dam good QB. He’s perfect for the team. He doesn’t make mistakes and can make plays. AND he’s at the league min. So they can spend on other players. The only reason I won’t call him elite ( this was the same reason I had about Mahomes early on) is he hasn’t performed without all his weapons. The three game skid when there were injuries he wasn’t good. Could be just bad timing or he needs them IDK. He has the potential to be one of the greats, but he can also be just another QB. The hate comes from he was touted as the next GOAT. Just like when Brady, Manning, Mahomes etc had a bad stretch everyone jumped on the bandwagon to hate. In 2025 when the 49ers have to pay him what he’s worth we will see.

Purdy wasn't sacked but threw incomplete because he had NO time. If he had even a second longer, he'd have seen Aiyuk with no one even close to him in the end zone for an easy TD.

Thanks FieldPro for doing this doc on Brock! I'm a 49er fan for life and grew up watching the best: Montana-Rice magical connection, Steve Young, Roger Craig... Brock is there already, like a young Montana! I think he still needs time for his skills to mature so he'll be as efficient as Mahomes. And as for the Super Bowl, it's definitely not his fault they lost! It's more a coaching issue... but that's another story.......
I hope they give Purdy a big ole new contract. As soon as his all-star supporting cast is gone, he'll come right back to reality.

Brock is flat out a fantastic QB and looked like a seasoned veteran from his first start and has a very bright future because the 49'ers compete every year and make it to the playoffs regularly. 9ers coaching staff wanted a Purdy vs Mahomes duel, believing that was the winning formula. Baltimore fell for the same narrative Jackson vs Mahomes. Chiefs fell for the same narrative in the SB vs Buccaneers, Mahomes vs Brady, despite the Chiefs being down two offensive linemen. You got to run the ball, McCaffrey was moving the chains and chewing up clock. Mahomes cant beat you if he ain't on the field, the less processions he gets the better. Yall got a bad break on that muffed punt too, gotta be aware of the ball at all times. Not many QBs gonna out duel Mahomes, Allen and Burrow the only dudes I've seen that can match his intensity. Allen more so than Burrow, the Chiefs have chocked up in the second half of two games against the Bengals. But I knew Prudy was NFL stock when I watched him in college, Hall was the star on that Iowa State team, but I was highly impressed with Purdy.

Expecting him to be elite at this point is insane. Most QBs are not elite in year 2. Mahomes was. I don't know if there were others, but I know there were not many. Add to that the fact that Purdy was on the bench most of year 1 and we simply must cut him a great deal of slack. He is already good. He may or may not become elite, but he is certainly good enough to win with that team. THere are a number of reasons SF lost, but he was not one of them.
Any discussion of him being a failure as a QB needs to wait at least 2 years. So far, he has done FAR better than most QBs in their first season as a starter.
He needs at least two more years of the same play to become an elite QB. Let say he plays are the same level this coming year the man will be and should be mentioned with the great QB's in the league.

Brock's a baller. Without him 49ers fell apart in 2022 NFC championship game. And if he wasn't good, 49ers would have planned to start Sam Darnold or Tre Lance for 2023 season. Two guys picked in the first round. One they traded and one that's a backup. Sure Brock ain't Montana, but I think he can get you a good season and maybe a Superbowl in the future.
Brock Purdy played good.., but at his young age and going up against Patrick Mahomes, this was just too much for him. With Mahomes around, he just wasn't that good.

It’s the same reason it took forever for people to admit Brady was elite. A lot of people don’t remember, but until that season with Randy Moss it took everyone a minute to see Brady as more than a system qb, some still thought so until he left New England. But they both rely on consistent non-flashy plays that get yards. People are wowed by the Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and a Lamar Jackson crazy plays so when a qb shows they can do some of that they overlook reliable qbs who will consistently move the ball upfield in favor of guys who might have a flashy play here and there. People would rather see a qb suck all game, but have 3 super flashy plays over a qb who is consistently good all game, but doesn’t have any flashy plays. It’s like a really exaggerated version of the tortoise and the hair story. The hair qbs wow everybody with a crazy play here and there, but the tortoise qb just keeps marching the ball forward and wins.

Muffed punt, missed extra point, fumble, missed blocks, Dre goes down. None of that is on Brock. He played well. Defense also could not stop at the end.
Agree! Brock played well, like a vet, in his 1st SB game and did what he needed to do. I blame the OLine mostly. But I'm over it. KC was the best team that day, and that's why they won. Better luck next season.

The problem is with this league it’s about winning the Super Bowl. Look at Jim Kelly. He went to four Super Bowls in a row and lost them all to go to one. Super Bowl is hard enough, but to go to Four in a Row. is nearly impossible. But no one’s talking about Jim Kelly.
Try to recall the time when grades in the educational systems were reflective of the bell curve. The majority (1S) of grades would be a C. If you apply that grading system to today’s QBs, I submit Purdy would score in the B to A- range. Better than many, perhaps most, but not elite.

Brock Purdy had the highest QBR for the 2023 season. Youre being ridiculous to think hes not a top 10 QB in the NFL. And when you compared him to the elite QBs who are better than him-Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Pat Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, and Jalen Hurts, Purdy is younger than all of them. Hes got plenty of time to surpass them.
