American trucks don’t have this well at least my department doesn’t they have nobs that u turn usually your captains seat rider plays with them and your q is at your feet along with the air horn
@aidenlui2056 you can tap to turn it on or off you can't tap it for long range, tap it again for medium range, and then tap it again for short range. You can tap it for long range then double tap (and hold) for medium range and just hold it for short range. Small detail but frustrating. Would be nice if rockstar corrected it for GTA6 so you don't have to hold the horn and steer at the same time
professional addressing questions for those wondering about the horn: What he is using is called the hands free system. it’s safer than using the radial dial near the center console area while driving. some older vehicles (like the ones i drive) may only have the radial dial to change between modes. i prefer to use the radial dial even on these newer ones because i’m old school!
The first sound is used on straight roads like motorways with a bit of traffic, the medium/yelp is used for busy or dense/built up roads like a high road and then the last is used to clear intersections and junctions.
Fire Rescue Victoria also runs Scania appliances and I have to say that those horizontal reflective stripes on the front of the crew cab work really well! As a dutch person I am proud to say that I have done this in an ambulance in the UK because one of my friends dad worked on an ambulance and he took us to the depot to come check them out! It was very fun!
There's a switch panel on the dash you have to turn on for the lights and sirens the horn only starts them and lets you cycle the tones at least that's how it is on police cars and ambulances
In the UK, yes. It’s a hands-free alternative to the control panel systems that you would usually see. As far as I’m aware these hands-free systems are not widely used in the US
@@stevecarter8810 Not a "rocker switch" specifically but just the switch on the siren control console. Basically, you turn on the siren as normal but it doesn't get activated until you press the horn
@DefaultMale_ Road craft states if following in a convoy it is advisable to use a different tone to the rest so people know there are likely more than one vehicle in the convoy and don't move for vehicle 1 then go back and get smashed by vehicle number 2

The most useless siren control ever invented, i prefer buttons to make the selection so you dont have to play all the tones untill you get the one you want.
You have to remember these drivers are controlling several tons of vehicle at high speeds. They have to be thinking about that and aware of their surroundings. Putting the selector in the horn keeps the distraction to a minimum.
You don't want to be taking your hands off the wheel when under response driving conditions unless changing gear. The sirens have specific uses for approaching junctions, cruising, convoy, etc, so they aren't being cycled constantly. Having a button away from your driving control is dangerous and distracting.

In America it’s the officers job ti control lights and siren
I live on a main road and hear sirens all the time - I always wondered what the different sounds meant, especially the 2 beeps at the end - thank you!
And if they still don't get out of the way; pip your horn.
They use their horn as a control system. The 2 fast beeps turn off and on the sirens. One fast beep changes siren tones.

So Ive always wondered, if you press the horn and it starts the EMS, how do you just press the horn is there a separate button?
Long press the horn?

I'm old school, I prefer two tone air horns like the ones we had on our fire appliances back in the day!
Merseyside Fire and Rescue still use two tones, both the German style ones and thr British style ones.
