And also funny to see the thruster "pulsating" whenever it turned or at the start of the uphill xD, so functional AND entertaining solution. 2 birds with 1 stone
I love the gravity pipes too, but a huge flaw is acceleration changes. It may activate when you don't want it to which becomes a problem if you don't want to damage your robot, it has to deal with larger speed changes or be more fuel efficient which are mostly problems outside of SM.
@@tomsterbg8130 Oh yeah, it is by no means the most efficient or problem free solution, but it works well enough in slow speeds and it just looks cool.
Think of all the cool things Scrapman can build now that he has been practicing logic so much. He is a lot better now than he was a couple months ago 👍
Man, throughout the whole series, scrap man's solutions were actually very good. Obviously, someone with a lot of logic experience would be able to make marginally more robust solutions quicker, but all of these solutions were quite smart imo.
Scrapman, to check if one input is active, but not both, you can just use an XOR gate instead of the 3 gates you used. To be more specific, XOR is active if an odd number of inputs are active (and XNOR is the opposite, so with 2 inputs it is active if both inputs are the same)
That only work if you don't care which one is active. He needed specifically if it's holding the blue ball and not the red ball. What he should have done is use a not and and gate.
My suggestion on getting across that beam in the bonus level: Counterweights that are lowered down when the road disappears. (Because they need to be lifted back up on the way back you have to actively lower them instead of them just dropping). You might want to put wheels on the counterweight, to help with sideways weight distribution while the counterweights are up.
I absolutely love your practical/analog thinking with these! I would've tried to solve the thruster issue by making the thrusters turn off when going backwards, but thath little gravity trigger was so clever, because it solved potential issues elsewhere as well. Respect
A good trick to figuring out what logic to program into something is to say out loud in simple words what you want to happen. So when you were puzzling how to get the car in reverse, it would be "When this and not this are active, drive backwards." so the forward ball sensor would be connected to a NOR gate which would go to an AND gate with the other ball sensor, and that's it.
Potential tip for the beam. In one of Khan's multiplayer episodes with the monorail build, he had a system that would wrap around the rail. You might do something like that with friction blocks since they provided so many wheels. Hope this helps! :D
White sensor into free bearing tilt sensor into balance thrusters White sensor middle 2 sensors outer sides(turning) just a grabber and directions after that
this series has taught me how to halfway do logic programming. like knowing the solution to the issue at 12:00 could be solvedwith an AND gate requiring both the sensor to be activated and the timer to be activated for it to stop. First episode I wouldve never thought of it
To balance the car on the beam you could use sensors to detect the glass walkway and have them activate corresponding thrusters aimed downwards so if the right sensor detects the walkway above the left thruster activities and pushes the left side of the car up and vice-versa.
The whole black line skipping issue could have been skipped (no pun intended) if scrapman just paid attention to how the first training car followed the black line in the first challenge. Very fun to watch them nonetheless however, it's wonderful :]
My idea for the last level is a 3 or less/more part centipede like creation that will detect the white line and let down a set of 2 wheels that would go along the sides of the line and life back up on the way back(perhaps with the usage of well timed timers?)
!!! SCRAPMAN THIS WILL HELP!!! (sorry for the all caps) You have 8 sensors use 2 to detect the black line for forward one at opposite ends then 4 spaced evenly underneath so that if they detect the black line they will cause it to turn back to keep straight with one block space in between the sensor so the line can pass undetected until the bot is off course and use 1 sensor to detect the white line to activate your stabilizing wheels use 1 sensor to detect the trophy and activate reverse function and if there is any low friction blocks possibly use them also as stabilizers
ScrapMan: And now we should go backwards when we are supposed to go backwards! Ad immediately plays: "A different way forward!" Me: Ya, I guess that's one way to think about it lol.
Suggestion: I saw a cheese on a challenge where a robot extended an arm with a white piece to trigger the ending without going through the course. Here it would not be a cheese to pick up the trophy with a folding or extending arm, if you can make something long enough. I don't know what you have access to, a whole lot of pistons would be nice.
He does show the chest contents at the end of the video, he has 2 pistons and 3 controllers so some sort of piston extender and controller scissor extender thing to grab the trophy might just work
for the next challenge you have 2 solutions i can think of(untested tho): - paint your vehicle brown and make the sensor detect it - use wheels on the walkway to stabilize the vehicle when on the beam
You have 10 wheels. Do 4 wheels normal. 1 wheel in front middle. 1 wheel in back middle. 4 wheels horizontal in the middle. When the ground is not detected the wheels lower. So you're grasping the rail on either side with the two wheel on top providing forward and backwards movement. Then just roll out grab the cup and drag it back.
For the first part you could of had the sensors directly next to each other so they detect the black line. Meaning when it goes off the line it turns, so that cross junctions are not a problem. Basically don't have a gap in between the sensors
@@K_Safe538 One of the reasons could be that you'll have to make the vehicle slower (tested myself) and get really good turning angle so the sensors are not moved from the line while turning. Another one is that more logic behind it (negating, xnor etc) is needed. And he uses AND+NOR instead of XNOR gate so... I can see how it can get really confusing. (including backwards, stopping etc.)
You claim to not be an engineer, but you fix three errors (from three trials) and each is "he only one". You figure out ingenious solutions to the challenges. You definitely have the mindset of an engineer (both that good and the less good).
Wheels on the side that rotate down to hug the center beam after the wheel behind them loses sight of the road? With 10 wheels you could make a fairly long car, too. Perhaps one that anchors in place and stretches out with pistons, using the balance beam as a brace instead of the entire floor?
IIRC The reson why he doesn't do line followers, but instead, line avoiders, is that in Bot Factory 1, you have to build line avoiders, but in BF2 you can build line avoiders OR line followers, and ScrapMan didn't know how to make a line follower, so he just went with the standard avoiders for all BF2 levels.
This videos are really fun to watch. I have a small request, Could you go back and compare the pre-made creations in the ceiling of the build area to your own or see which one may be faster???
9:27 The usual solution here is to invert one of the Logic Gates, then use an AND Gate to combine them. that way: Red(not) 0 1 0 1 Blue 0 0 1 1 AND 0 0 1 0
@scrapman put the low friction blocks on controllers or pistons as a guide for the rail. Set it up so they go down while a color sensor detects the white line and 2 side sensors DON'T detect the ground. Then a claw mechanism to grab the trophy and lift it up 1 or 2 blocks(assuming you can even pick up the trophy).
Now the creator of these maps just needs to embrace the chaos of logic and make medium -high speed tracks with challenges and timers to trigger changes in the map. Some different speeds could even trigger different paths. Think of the chaos and the challenge it'll cause. 😈
By the end I was using just 2 logic gates with the sensors. One XOR to indicate when you need to turn and then a NOR to flip that to indicate you need to go straight.
My idea:first you need 4 wheels balancing the vehicle then when it detects the white line (the 1 block long thingy) the wheels rotate to the side of the 1 block long road, and then to make it back again when it has the throphy then it goes backwards and when it comes back and detects the black line again the back wheel only goes back to normal and when the front wheel get stuck, it also turns into normal too, #ScrapMan please read this if it works because i never have been in a video, thanks
