Marilyn wore Vaseline underneath all her makeup. She prefered a glowy finish because it blurred under the studio lights. I think the highlights are a 2023 way of doing the Vaseline trick. 😊 If anyone is interested about Marilyns makeup theres tons of books out there ❤
Just went and tried the vaseline under my foundation I use moonrise creek minneral foundation on etsy and the combo is amazing thank you so much.😊

Another great makeup artist who does a lot of Marilyn-based work is Erin Parsons. She does a lot of ancient history makeup, too. She's very interesting and she actually owns some of Marilyn's makeup!

Marilyn, also, wore an orange lipstick by Revlon in "Siren". It's still available and it's absolutely lovely.♥️
I know Erin Parsons made a video where she duped Marilyn's lipstick and settled on Siren, but I'm not sure that Siren by Revlon is actually confirmed to be worn by Marilyn. I thought Siren first came out in 2011 as a part of Revlon's retro collection. Was it a re-release of a vintage shade? I'd like to know more if you have any further information. Thank you🙂
I love wet and wild and always have. I just recently bought a Marilyn lipstick combo and the lips balm that comes with the red lipstick (love it) only one thing….the lip balm is so perfume y I don’t think I will wear it that much .
How sweet of that group of kids to give your mom that nice compliment! She does resemble Jayne. I too am underwhelmed by this collection. The packaging looks cheap. They’ve been a lot more cute and clever with most of their other collabs lately. There is a highlighter that looks pretty and the clear balm is cool. The red lipstick and gloss look really pretty on you, but you’re right… not Marilyn’s shade.
Emily, you can use a push pin or needle to prick as many holes (as wanted) on the illuminated powder cover. I use this method to prevent ridiculous amounts of powder pouring out of a sifter.
That’s what I do when I can’t peel those stickers off! Or I try to pull it off with a tweezer!

I purchased that Besame lipstick you mentioned as a gift, and my friend absolutely loves it. She thought it was so special that I picked a Marilyn inspired red for her in such a quality formula and beautiful packaging, because she is a true red lip lover and rocks it.
Wet n Wild always does SO good with their highlighters!
I still have my Marilyn Monroe products from besame. I still use them. I ordered the eyeshadow palette and a highlighter from this collection. It’s basic yes but I use that everyday and plus I love Marilyn. Yes I wanted the packaging lol

I recently read an article about how there is the W technique, the C technique, and the O technique, all designed to give different looks on the face. I love blush almost as much as you do so I would absolutely love this video!

Maybe you can poke the holes in the loose powder container with a needle? It won't remove the plastic of course, but it'll at least help get to the product 😊 love your red headband!
I never remove the plastic seal on loose powders. Instead, I poke holes in them with a toothpick. Less messy!
That’s what I do with mine
@kunn_ I was going to suggest that, too. Or use a a pair of cuticle scissors to poke the holes.

You look so beatiful in this makeup. I love Wet n Wild and I have used it since about 1983 in high school i have the highlighter and I love it. Wet n Wild is a great low cost makeup product. If you buy something and you don't like it you are not out big bucks.

Emily-don’t peel off the sticker on the loose powder. Stick a straight pin through the holes and then you can control how much comes out.
I saw that TH-cam short. I just did that recently with another Wet and Wild Loose Powder.
The side by side comparison of eye shadow palettes, oh my god 😂thrice the price…for the same thing. Love your honesty!

Thank you, as always, for your honest review, Emily. I know I'm not alone in admiring you for your integrity and honesty. We so appreciate that about you, among so many other facets that make you YOU! I do love Besame products. The owner, Gabriela Hernandez, prides herself on the research she puts into her retro-based products. They're more pricey than drugstore, of course, but they are high quality. I have about 15 of her lipsticks, her Violet powder, cake mascaras (that I use for eyeliner), among other things. Her brushes are actually pretty well priced and good quality as well!
When you lifted the lid off the eyeshadow palette, it looked exactly like Walking on Eggshells to me

I was watching a Marilyn fanatic, and she bought one of her original max factor lipsticks at an auction and the color of the lipstick was more like an orange, not a red! I found it super interesting, because we always pair up Marilyn Monroe with a classic red lip.
Sounds like Erin Parsons video :) Erin is an amazing makeup artist and make up historian.
That’s because of the film that was used then orange translated as red on screen. It took her makeup artist trial and error to make her lip color show up as red. So interesting.
I got some products from this a few weeks ago. I love the eye shadow palette (I don't own the walking on eggshells, but I also didn't know it was the same, ha!), the dual liquid liner, and the blush. I was very disappointed with how glittery the blush was, considering they didn't put out one that was without it. I don't do glitter and trying to get that colour on my darker skin makes me look even more shiny. I steered clear of everything else, and you pretty much justified all of those reasons. Cheers!
Emily, I think you should do your own Marilyn dupe look for less, or something like that. You have a lot of knowledge concerning her actual makeup routine.

Speaking of Wet n' Wild - I saw that they carry so many awesome little makeup sticks in addition to the Where's Walnut contour that we love. I got several concealer shades and blush shades and even one of the highlight sticks too! I'm excited to use them and hope they will be as easy a part of my every day routine as Where's Walnut has become. Have you tried any of the other sticks besides the contour/blush? I was excited to see a range in that line because I love how easy they are to use!

Someone might have suggested this, but I would use a needle or safety pen to push holes in the sticker of the setting powder. ( I realize you shouldn’t HAVE to do this, but at least you could try it).

Pretty sure the costs of collections like this one are higher because of the royalty fees they have to pay to use the images.......just a thought...........?

Em! Take a sharp small knife or exactly blade and poke holes in the plastic packaging for the powder. It will be mess free and you will have working hole!

I ordered the PR box! It seems like some pretty packaging (for W & W anyway ), and I do like that “pinup girl era”. I’m a super big Audrey Hepburn fan Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of my favorite movies. Also a couple of super early reviews I watched were cute and the products seemed to perform & be the formula we know & love and expect from Wet n Wild. Shhhh, 🤫🤭 plus I got a nicceee cyber-monday deal off the site direct, I’m only paying $58 for the whole shebang! If I don’t like everything, so what💁🏻♀️ I can gift it out. Someone’s always asking me for a hand me downs/passalongs from my collection, I will get money’s worth-IM EXCITED! 💄💋👏🏻❤️

I got the box set just to look at. Really only wanted the eyeliners and blush, but got carried away. :D Also was impressed that they'd put out a set that had all of the pieces in it instead of having to order extra bits. They haven't done that in a while (Snoopy, Scooby, Sesame St, Care Bears, Lilo & Stitch... Not even sure Pac-Man had all the bits.)
Instead of trying to remove the plastic over the setting powder, take a pin and punch holes in it. I do that for most of those type products so it keeps it from having too much powder come out at one time.

I saw this collection at Walgreens awhile back. I walked right past it. I don’t think this is for me. W&W can and does better than this. Just my thoughts about it. I always appreciate your honesty with your reviews.

Side note: they may be charging more when they do a special product for the license of using that particular show or movie.
That is exactly why all collars will be more, licensee's are also very different in price. For sure they paid more for MM than say, Scooby.
One of my favorite videos was when you did the Marilyn full on from the kit. It is too bad that they charge more for these gimmicks, as it may be the pre teen who will spend their allowance for it ,
A little trick to get the sticker off-use a hair dryer on low setting for aboit 10 seconds then pause and try. The heat loosens the adhesive. Also works great for price tags that are stubborn.
Sounds safer than a razorblade, which was another suggestion I received to remove those

I paused the video just after the cheeks to tell you that I love Marylin Monroe’s look and I wanted to get the eye pallet- the colors are pretty - but then I saw the price and said I don’t need to pay for a picture stamped on a compact I can get those colors in other versions so it was a pass for me. I love it but the up-pricing was not setting well with me. I love the review. I think they make great makeup and I am usually happy with the pricing so overall I still am happy with the brand.

I saw this collection at my local Walgreens. I bought the lighter version of the highlighter and it’s too icy for me and my skin tone but I passed it on to my daughter 😊

I did purchase a few pieces grom the collection. I enjoy the lip liner and lip gloss, as well as the champagne highlighter. I also like the brush with the "crystal" handle.

Great video! You're gorgeous! I wanted the Marilyn palette and went to Amazon. Then I looked at the regular wet and wild palettes and I saw that call me sunshine 10 pan was marked down right now to 3.49. I had never bought that 1 but had the other 3. So it was a no-brainer and I'm grateful I was able to get that one so affordably.
