  • This might be a huge mistake! John Deere is moving some of its loader production from Dubuque, Iowa, to a new facility in Ramos, Mexico, by 2026, leading to layoffs as part of a broader strategy to reduce costs and improve efficiency

In 2020 Dubuque county voted for Trump and black Hawk county, which Waterloo is located in voted for Biden by 7 points. As a whole Iowa has been a red state. Agree. My family farms and ALL expenses are out of control - equipment, equipment maintenance, fertilizer, fuel, seed, TAXES.
It used to be that you could run used equipment and keep repairing it yourself. No longer - parts are non-existent. A simple example is not being able to get a replacement tire for a 30 year-old tractor. The tractor still runs well - but idled by a seemingly simple part. Manufacturers are forcing people to buy astronomically expensive new equipment - AND their sky-high parts.
AND THIS isn't even enough - evidenced by JD's move to Mexico.

My family has owned John Deer tractors for over 50 years but not anymore! John Deer’s quality and customer service has deteriorated severely over the last decade. You can no longer repair them yourselves specifically the newer ones and finding parts for the older ones is becoming harder by the day. When my father wanted a new tractor he went to the local John Deer dealership and received such bad customer service, he told them that they just lost a cash buyer. He ended up buying a Kubota that week with four extra accessories (2 bush hogs, fork, and a front bucket). Head said the customer service was the best he had ever had. Not only did they deliver the equipment on my father’s schedule they stayed there for two extra hours to make sure that he knew how to use and maintain it. After doing some research, I found out that John Deer has lost a significant amount of market share to the Asian tractor companies.

Even if economic policy improves substantially, it will be very difficult to get those jobs back - even the "small" amount in JD's case. There is a pattern that people don't catch apparently. Elon Musk was right about unions. As soon as all the workers unionized and companies got forced to accept the new conditions, it only lasted 2-3 years (takes time to replan to move something that size). We are in the end days of capitalism (aka the system of independent narcissism), it works well when money is there cause everyone just sells their souls. When money disappears the wolf eats the wolf.
A great line from Chernobyl goes something like this:
"Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth, sooner or later that debt needs to be paid". We have invoices coming for decades of lies and deceptions, everyone is guilty of. Get ready to pay your invoices to the world!

@@camocas I was talking about USA, Europe due to it's history works a bit different and union culture is more engraved in people's minds. The USA is more cowboy style, individual, shoot first ask questions later. Rules and regulations across are very different too.

There is no hope for America. Nobody knows grain farmers are receiving 1990 income with massive 2024 expenses. Grain farmers can’t even break even. Can you imagine government workers or medical working for 1990 wages or working just for gas ?

Has nothing to do with a blue or red state....its called corporate greed. Everything changed when the movie Wall Street showed up when Micheal Dougless said "Greed is good" Everything went to hell.

Yeah, that is my area. I was just layed off due to John Deeres financial shortcomings. This sucks. So many effected, what a shame
The John Deere world headquarters is in East Moline, IL and its going to be a massive blow to our local labor market

Let's not forget that a little more than 2 years ago these workers were on strike fighting for better wages among other things. John Deere in this area has a cyclical build season. Every fall they would lay off workers, and every year that came with a model change would have more than other years. They would usually hire most back at the beginning of the season. For them to come out and say they are moving lines to Mexico is nothing more than corporate greed for shareholders. I will say that JD is trying to offer extended benefits for impacted individuals effected. The whole thing still leaves a sour taste in the mouths of the locals here.

John Deere equipment is actually made in China, the parts are shipped to the United States where it is assembled so that they can claim it is made in America. A family friend and old schoolmate worked in a John Deere worked plant for 20 years. He has been so frustrated since John Deere transitioned to having chinese-made parts as the failure rate is horrific. They have to throw out between 50 and 75%(some lots are worse than others)of the parts they receive as they do not specifications (some do not even come close to working and are just porly cast part-shaped decoys ment to fool people). Numerous companies are having assembly quality control problems in Mexico, if you add in the poorly made Chinese parts with assemblers who don't care, well there will be a bunch of John Deer branded junk.

it's not a politics issue its simply corporate greed.
If you give all these companies financial incentives then thats TAX PAYER money making the owners more money and 99% of big corporations avoid tax anyway.
