Quick correction: I promise I know the difference between a Transistor vs a Transformer ML model 😅 My brain mixes up words sometimes. But yes, Transformers ftw!
I adore this recent podcast format. Dave is amazing as a cast member, Adam+Ellis are killing it as producers, and their occasional banter is always welcome. Future is bright for WVFRM! 🥳
20:20, part of the reason OS RuneScape has continued to hold an active player base is a system they use to add updates - pretty much everything from graphical changes, to boss releases, to new item stats and buff changes is polled to the community. I don’t know if there’s a good analog to physical tech there, but being in tune with the consumers desire for the product seems like the key to the success there.
I always enjoy just about every piece of content you guys out out, but this episode was even better than normal. You guys’ more casual banter sprinkled in feels so right.
If ChatGPT allowed you to have profiles, so to speak, and you can train each of them. One could be a second you, one could be an encyclopedia (i.e., Google, Wikipedia, etc.), and so on & so forth. You could choose which one you used, allow them to collab. with each other, etc., etc.
Just a minor correction. The AI algorithms that became world-leading at Go and Chess where developed by DeepMind, not OpenAI. DeepMind is an AI company that Google bought some time ago. Their major breakthrough so far has been to solve the protein folding problem.
I'm with Ellis on the AI stuff. I think it's biggest potential is in any user being able to train their own data set. For example, like Ellis said, being able to train it on your own work. Or being able to train it on a specific set of inspirations so that it "thinks like you". That way, similar to what Marques said, it becomes a tool for being able to brainstorm and bounce ideas off of "yourself", but a version of you that never gets writers/idea block.
Hearing Marques say he wouldn’t switch to Microsoft/Bing to use chatGPT gives me flashbacks of his “I don’t see the point of folding phones” stance shortly before fully embracing them.
Hey @Waveform feel free to disagree with me, but Marques' solo cam is a bit too zoomed in? Not sure if it's more zoomed in than usual, or if it's just the fact that David's solo cam has to fit two people in the frame. Either way, it's a bit jarring when cutting to Marques and he's just *massive.* Again, feel free to disagree but I'd appreciate it if the shot was a little wider ;) Great pod as always guys 👍🏾
The Duo was delivering on a concept that got leaked from Microsoft like 10 years earlier. The public went wild for that concept and then MS slept on the idea for way too long and by the time the Duo came out, technology had caught up to the original concept and passed it. Two screens was a crazy good idea back when foldable screens weren't even a concept people thought possible.
21:28 Correction: David says that the 'TRANSISTOR' ML model was introduced in 2017 but it is actually the 'TRANSFORMER' ML model that was introduced by a team at Google Brain in 2017 which was indeed revolutionary...
If y’all haven’t seen it already Corridor crew did a video where they did analyze someone’s voice and chopped it up into a fake ad read from a crew member. Definitely worth a watch if you haven’t cus it literally sounds like what y’all are taking about just intentionally instead of a prank. 41:24
38:28 - Literally a Black Mirror episode, Be Right Back. It starts out as a chat bot that you give access to someone's social media account, it trains on all their posts, and comes back talking as them, then it progresses to voice calls by training on their video content, and in true Black Mirror style, it finally ends up as a robot that can also look like them.
Something that I feel has been missing for these conversations it's that most information in the Internet it's the same repeated a lot, so updating models from the same source should have certain limits.
17:28. Ask the missing participant the trivia question on the studio channel/shorts. Direct us there/show a snippet. Might boost traffic to where that content is located. I might be wrong.
Just a quick note about Android 13, I got the update on my tablet, which is the extremely low end Tab A7 Lite. It feels much faster now. Typically I've experienced the opposite with Android updates to older/lower end devices.
Yes! make a video how different components and patents play to make a complete product. Also please also include some interest facts, probably David would be good at researching on that one. Love to know more infos in the video like Trivia :)
OpenAI’s chatGPT is basically syphoning everything on internet (free and paid content) and giving internet’s best option of every question. Its not even AI. Its existing database of internet (like google) but in more conversational way
That was a fun episode! Or should I say, you folks were having a lot of fun, so we did, too. Please give Ellis some time off so he can go to a beach some place warm. I literally reduce the brightness of the screen every time he comes on! :D
You guys really need to check out the surface duo again with the Android 12L update. It's such a unique productivity device. I like having bezels to grab something (this is an issue on my ZFold3) but I wish they were on the sides instead of across the top and bottom (think iPad mini).
As a SharePoint admin at work.. Microsoft search which is the main search engine within SharePoint online will benefit immensely by the Open AI investment
There's another part to the alleged openai/Ms deal. Once openai passes 100B in Profit the MS shares will be transferred back to openai. Between 10-100B MS will receive a smaller portion of the profits than during the 0-10B part.
Good to know stuff!!... I was hoping that you would talk about iPhones removing the Twitter app? Would there be a different way to get the app on an iPhone, doesn't Google play store work on an iPhone?
If ChatGPT still has the info, it could answer the question and then give a sort of footnotes dropdown, below the answer, with links to the sources. The lawyers would probably have to look at it to determine if that concept would essentially be an admission that they stole the IP from those sites. It has been generally accepted that if you show your references, you have done your due diligence.
Also To add up something.... Nothing has also said that they will not be launching any new phone in 2023, And basically focus on the phone updates and stabilizing the UI ☺️😌😌😌
What David says about the dual window mode on a folding screen, I use a samsung tablet and while Android 12L is much better for multi tasking, I do like the idea of splitting the display into two in software, so it works like two separate displays. Would feel like a desktop ala Samsung Dex mode
Delta has freen internet for whattsapp too for international and local flight, after like 20 minutes into the trip and like 30 min before landing. I fly delta only to Nigerian from the US every time, and that four flights combined.
more interesting than the likelyhood of apple using their vertical integretion to drive prices down, is that this is kind of the philosophy of meta with the quest line. spend insane amount on R&D, using custom hardware and then any savings from streamlining and sweet deals just goes into pushing more advanced hardware into the next gen
The riskiest aspect of Microsoft’s OpenAI investment are the upcoming legal implications relating to how OpenAI is using others’ intellectual property.
I came here from audio to figure out what the messages sound was for thinking it would be counting something that they were doing or saying but there’s nothing WHAT IS HAPPENING
I'm loving the more and more frequent music technology mentions (even though it's mostly just for TE for now). Just a matter of time before we get a synth/groovebox review!

Adam and Ellis forgot to edit out the iOS sent message sounds LOL. This is my favorite weekly podcast regardless of the chaos. Great job guys!
... I was watching my messages all the time like what is going on
yeah at first I thought that was my phones (I listened on my phone). Needless to say I was EXTREMLY confused lol
🤣🤣🤣
i kept thinking i was getting messages 😂
I thought I was going crazy
Make David permanent on the podcast.
Edit: Whoever wants this like the comment.
Especially after the keys of the internet video, I think he's an excellent addition
YESSS🎉we love david man, please keep him on!!!!!
Starting a petition to make David a permanent Stay!👊🏻🙌🏻
Come from ur real ID David
Yeah
The podcast is even more amazing when it’s all 3 of you guys on it! Please keep it this way
What's with all the iOS message sending sounds around 5:41?
Whoa there's a good few of them. Is this an easter egg or something cause I don't know how it could have gotten into the final edit
They could have been trying to add a sound for when pictures are displayed, but it just got messed up either in editing or exporting.

Love all the iMessage sounds. Gave me anxiety the whole podcast thinking I was sending messages.

That iMessage sounds were extremely distracting lol

Lol agree
IOS message sounds aside, thank you for listening to us all and continuing to have David here. He's the reason I watch the whole show.
I’m glad that David is a permanent part of the Podcast now.
Finally David without “David shirt” 😅
Thanks for the video! I love the podcast. Quick thing: the ML model is called transformer, not tranistor
Also the magic is transformer with attention
I will not stand for the deepmind erasure in this episode
What were those random text send sounds?? Lol
Are there a bunch of texts being sent during this or am I going crazy lmao
Really loving the bigger group conversations that y’all have been doing. More perspectives and more casual listening experience, keep it up!
I’m all for the smartphone supply chain being a future video
I personally think AI will only be beneficial for us, but man it's hard not to be creeped out by things like the hide and seek game

The NLP (Natural Language Model) used by OpenAI is called a *Transformer* Model
