This was the song my choir sang at last year's final concert. I was a junior in high school. I won't get another final high school choir concert for my senior year. This didn't click with me until I watched the movie recently, and had to bite back tears at this song. I'll always be partial to this arrangement
[Verse 1: P.T. Barnum] I saw the sun begin to dim And felt that winter wind Blow cold A man learns who is there for him When the glitter fades and the walls won't hold 'Cause from then, rubble What remains Can only be what's true If all was lost There's more I gained 'Cause it led me back To you [Chorus: P.T. Barnum] From now on These eyes will not be blinded by the lights From now on What's waited till tomorrow starts tonight Tonight Let this promise in me start Like an anthem in my heart From now on From now on [Verse 2: P.T. Barnum] I drank champagne with kings and queens The politicians praised my name But those are someone else's dreams The pitfalls of the man I became For years and years I chased their cheers The crazy speed of always needing more But when I stop And see you here I remember who all this was for
Singing this for my Chorus concert on June 10th for my 8th grade friends and I because we are going in 9th grade next year and we are graduating from 8th grade onto high school. Looking forward to singing this song for all the peeps in Waterloo, NY
I sang this song last year for my choir concert and I honestly miss last year almost all my favorite people moved and plus there was drama which made my life more interesting 😂😭💓
I love this song, but it shouldn't be written in 4/4. 2/4 fits the tempo much better. Or rather the rhythm could be spread out a little better. The tempo is perfect, but the rhythmic transcription is very tight for an effective use of Common Time. I would honestly conduct this arrangement in 2, not 4.
Stan Merrill the arrangement we performed at my school was written in half-time compared to this. one bar in our version equaled to two measures in this version
Our choir is singing this song and a song called “Star” by LOONA, which is in English but is written by 11 different Korean composers! Actually originally it was 12 composers but one has anxiety so she wasn’t able to participate. :( Here’s the link to it if you want to listen! th-cam.com/video/zW-AIXAnLcE/w-d-xo.html
This arrangement loses what makes this song as powerful as it is in the movie. There are plenty of ways to make this song a choir piece, however this is not one of them. The introduction (which grabs the audience with the epiphany Barnum has) should stay. With the optional ability to keep it the same octave as the original or an octave higher, which will help keep it's intention of being emotional. This arrangement just shows how much many arrangers don't care about the song, but about the money involved. Pathetic.
They Couldn’t keep the beginning as it wouldn’t make sense to someone who hasn’t seen the movie. This was supposed to be an arrangement that everyone can understand, not to sound just as powerful as the original song.
Jerrod Wise I’m gonna be real with you - I wrote this because I was angry that I was originally promised the beginning solo, and then our director chose this arrangement until last minute where we reverted back to the original version.

This song was so much fun to do for our graduating choirs, but man the dance was intense. Never been so out of breath.

[Verse 2: P.T. Barnum]
I drank champagne with kings and queens
The politicians praised my name

The crazy speed of always needing more
But when I stop
And see you here
I remember who all this was for

My choir Is doing this arrangement and I know I love it. Were also doing all or most of The Greatest Showman songs and it's been fun so far.

Samuel Young oh, I can understand your frustration
I am so sick of these same chords on every song.
