I like to think that Adam is like the kid from The Sixth Sense, and just happens to see dead people and help them move on. This movie has been haunting me ever since I watched I. An absolute masterpiece.

This is a haunting, beautiful and powerful story!
I’ll watch later this evening when I’m home from work.
Thanks for reacting to this Billy

The most touching part of Billy's reaction is when he nods his head before Adam does in response to Adam's father's question about whether the death was quick.

I just finished watching, Billy Great reaction!
    Such a beautiful movie!
Earlier in the movie Adam says something to the effect that he didn’t know what love feels like.
At the end during the goodbyes I think he finally is at peace because he now understands how it feels to be in love.
Maybe it’s just my sentimental opinion but that’s my take on it.

Adam was a writer of screenplays. You caught it that what he had typed was “Exterior.” You see the exterior of the house in a photo and then in real life when Adam first went there, before he saw his dad. I believe the whole interactions with his parents, with their 80’s way of thinking of gay, the clothes, his pajamas, him on his knees by the Christmas tree, looking up with child-like wonder on his face… all of these are memories and wishes mixed together. He never was able to accept the abandonment issues he felt after the people most dear to him died with no resolution to their relationships. Writing is cathartic to him. I’m not saying it is, but it explains why he was seeing them at the ages that they died. It’s the last memory he had of them alive. Only if his grandmother would have let him say goodbye to his mother, or anything, except sheltering him from what she thought would scar him for life. In reality, he was going to be scarred one way or another concerning their deaths because they were so close. And because Adam himself knew he was gay, he needed the love of parents that would, someday, accept him. They and their home were his safe place He could be open and feel the full amount of love from them instead of a secret that he couldn’t tell them at such a young age. Then they’re gone, and so is his chance to feel that all encompassing love with no constraints. He then sheltered himself away from all love from anyone.
All of the above could be what he was writing. His way of getting to the resolution of his script. All stories must end… one way or another.
Paul’s performance was mesmerizing! Especially his first drunken visit to Adam’s door, basically begging him to give him a reason to not un-alive himself. That scene still torches me. The camera angle that had Harry inside Adam’s apartment, but only as a reflection. He was pleading for help. The way he held his hand on the back of the door after Adam closed it.
“Why didn’t anybody find me?” Total devastation…
After Harry realizes he’s dead, he gets very upset and confused and embarrassed to have Adam see his dead body. Adam tells him, “you are here! You’re not in there, you’re here!” That was Adam’s way of saying you are alive… in my heart. Then he says, “let’s go upstairs”… (Heaven.)
And when Harry’s finally loved spirit is released, he was in the same body position that his real body was in at the moment of his death.
They are leaving the answer of Adam’s death up to interpretation. He finally felt real love, killed himself so he could go with Harry. Others say Adam OD’d at the night club. That’s why time was nebulous until he woke up and Harry is taking care of him. At the end, they both turn into one light that turns out to be stars in the sky. OR
He was finally at peace with the ghosts of his past. The script was finished.
What is your interpretation of the end? They left it open for you.

Kudos to you for realizing that Harry died that first night. I didn't, and was a little confused by the ending when I first saw it. It's too bad the Oscars ignored this gem of a film, a brilliant exploration of family, connection, love, loss, and loneliness through a gay lens. Haigh's gay-themed film, Weekend, also was brilliant.

i’m glad i didn’t know the genre was fantasy. on hulu it said drama/romance. if i knew it was fantasy that would’ve ruined it for me😩i was so shocked when i started realizing some things weren’t real

I think Adam will be okay. Him finally reaching out to Harry rather than the reverse was the culmination of his arc.
And hopefully this will help him seek out connection in the future.

I think Adam was actually a ghost/spirit as well as Harry and his parents. Each of these characters experienced closure by the end of the film. That final scene with Adam & Harry lying together as they slowly crossed over into the Light was hauntingly beautiful.

Billy, I love your reaction to watching my favorite gay movie, "All of Us Strangers" on this video, it came out last year in 2023 to see Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal as Adam and Scotty, who are fell in love with each other, so I'm proud of you for that, it's an inspiration to me!! ❤

Such a hauntingly beautiful film. Not surprised you wiped away tears at the end even though in the beginning you said no tears today. Although it has been said this movie is open to many interpretations, I kinda feel Adam was also a ghost. One unable to move on.
In the end Adam was able to move on to eternity with Harry by his side. That is why they both went into the Light together.
It should also be noted you basically nailed it before the official reveal. You’re a very intuitive person.

Hey! Wazzup! New sub here. Great reaction to a beautiful film! Have you seen Brokeback Mountain and Call Me By Your Name? Also I recommend Fireworks on Tubi. It’s based on a true incident in Italy in the 80s that initiated an awareness of anti- gay crimes. It does have subtitles but the lead actors break your heart. Also I recommend Lonesome, Strange Way of Life and King Cobra. Take care brochacho!☮️🏳️‍🌈🇲🇽🇺🇸♓️

Ireland was the first european country to bring in same sex marriage by referendum so not that far behind.

It's unfortunate that you couldn't allow yourself to just experience the film for what it was. It"s not a film to be understood with logic, but with emotion. They even say "is any of this real?" And the answer was "does it matter?".

I must be the only gay guy didn't care for this movie. I didn't hate it but it was over hyped - I went into it with high expectations and an active dislike of Scott. Seen better

I feel like it must have been your dislike for Scott then. Usually I don't like gay starring movies. What have you seen that is better?
