The Action 5 Pro and the Wireless Mic Mini are a killer combo. It was a very dark day here so I decided to test the camera out in pretty poor conditions and wear the mic under my shirt just to see what it would sound like. The Action 5 is super in low light. I used 50fps and a shutter at 1/50th so cars going past wouldn’t look too sharp and jittery. I kept the ISO fixed at 200 so that the camera wouldn’t push it high in auto mode. The Action 5 has a tendency to go high on ISO and (maybe) clean it up. I didn’t want that. I used the magnetic holder from the Action 2 to mount the mic and wore it under my shirt the whole time. In post, I dropped off the lower bass. Pulled the lower mids down and pushed up the treble at 4-8kHz. The way I decided which frequencies to cut was to just put in a large boost at each frequency and listen for anything nasty. If the sound went bad, then that was the frequency that I would cut. This method works really well for most mics …. Spotting the problem frequencies and then cutting them out. I REALLY like the Mic Mini. It has a great sound with lots of presence. Incredible when worn under your clothing. Normally, I make these ‘nothing much happens’ videos for myself just to test something out, but maybe showing you the result might save you some time. Low light, winter’s day, dark scenery, Wireless mic Mini worn on a necklace under my shirt!
This is a denoted area of outstanding beauty in the UK. I’m lucky to live in such a nice place, but there’s not a single shop. All we have is a school, church and a pub. Terrible if it snows …. We have to keep freezers stocked!
It's like rush hours 😂 Reminds me of a few years back we had (west of Ireland here) 2 ambulances passing by within a hour apart and friend of mine shouted "What's going on, it's like New York here today!"
Ambulances here are a main event! It was a bit of a daft video, I know, but I was quietly testing the Action 5 in really poor light, locked in to 1/50th second and the DJI Wireless Mic Mini. I often make ‘non action’ videos at home about random things to test something and then try to make a cohesive video out of it just for editing practice!
I have to agree with you about it being a great combo, the imagery looks good and the sound track is also spot on! Seems the Action 5 is an excellent camera. seems it was your turn for the traffic today!
Thank you. It really is a great, contained system. I also have a neat battery handle from DJI which keeps the camera going all day. I often make these ‘nothing happens’ videos for myself just to test things but I thought maybe it might help others and save them time watching my video. This was taken this morning in really poor light on a grey day. The mic was worn on a necklace under my shirt.
@@iancraig Battery handles can be great as it means less changing of batteries. I bought the Sony high capacity battery for my AX53 and I got about 4 hours from it and now eight years on I can still run for three and a half hours. I thought this video of your was very well edited which makes for a compelling story and viewing experience.
I use the same high capacity batteries on the ax53 as well. They’re brilliant. Funny thing about editing … so many people have told me how much they don’t like editing. I love putting it all together and again, one of the things I often do, but don’t post here, is to take random shots on a day out and then try to get them into something cohesive. I also love building sequences with music. The music often helps with the pace of the clips.
@@iancraig I have enjoyed editing of some unboxing videos recently not done much otherwise. Music can be a great help in setting pace and overall feel of a video. Random shots can be fun and a challenge but bring a bit of joy as you bring them together.
I don’t know where they’re all coming from! I live in a tiny village …. Walking up a tiny country road with my camera and they all choose to go up that road when I’m there!! lol.
I was wondering yesterday if I should start using manual settings on my 405 as the picture on the screen seemed slightly too bright. I realise the 405 is semi manual automatic but I'm not sure what to adjust.. I did play with the shutter speed a while back when it was getting darker and found the picture got lighter. This afternoon I put the first layer of gloss paint on the mile post and filmed.. it was just starting to get dark. Interesting to see what I think are Beech tree's.. and wondered if they were a supply for the Bodger. 3 boat's came past today..
Because the cx405 is only semi manual, you have to use ‘exposure compensation because in normal shooting, the shutter compensates for the aperture and the aperture compensates for the shutter. So you have to set it so that the camera under exposes. I can’t remember whether the 405 has exposure compensation. If it does, try setting it lower. Dark scenes will then look dark! I try to keep the shutter low so that fast moving things blur.

Hi Ian hope you're well. That's more cars than I see on my way to work in the morning.😅. Great video nicely filmed, really nice image considering the condition. As for the audio it was nice and clear. Best wishes stay safe Jon
I called it that as a joke! I live out in the UK countryside and being retired, don’t leave my village that often. I make ‘nothing happens’ videos for myself when testing out gear and then use the footage as an editing exercise to keep the old brain ticking over. Because I was testing the Action 5 in really poor light and wearing the DJI Mic Mini under my shirt, I thought it might be useful for TH-cam. It’s a great combo!
