- Toby Hounsham has been playing keyboards with The Stranglers since the untimely demise of the legendary Dave Greenfield in May 2020. Toby generously gave his time to do a full tour of his rig, which is essentially unchanged from Dave Greenfield's rig and shows the robustness of the setup. We even get to chat with the brilliant Jim Macauley on the integration of his drum gear with Toby's.
Also see the Stranglers in action at soundcheck and in full flight at the show.

It takes a brave and talented man to fill the shoes of Dave Greenfield... and to do it so authentically. I've listened to the Stranglers since the 70s and for me it was the keyboard that set the Stranglers apart from virtually every other band of that era, or indeed any other era. (Not in any way to diminish the characteristic bass of J.J
Toby mentioned that the Hohner Cembalet sound was sampled. The crew borrowed the real Cembalet from Mick Turley - the keyboard player in Stranglers tribute band Straighten Out
Thanks Jake!
Oh! how i would love to have that cembalet sample.
I'll to make do with a nord pianet...its pretty close :0)
Nice job with the interview. It is somehow quite touching (comforting?) to see that bits of Dave's setup made it through to the modern-day band. Those are some big shoes to fill and you can only do that with love and respect, and of course first-rate keyboardist skills. Like I guess many people here, Dave was a major influence on my decision to get into keyboards back in the 80s and I can only think what a dream and also somewhat of a nightmare it would be to be asked to fill that role. Respect to you Toby Hounsham you are doing a stunning job.
So well put!
Welcome to the stranglers family 🖤🎹 🥁 Toby and Jim.
Toby is fantastic I love hearing him talk about music and playing. He's just slotted into the band perfectly and what a nice chap he is. 😊
Great to hear your keyboard rig Toby. I did mention it ages ago.
Absolutely brilliant 🖤🩷🖤
What an absolutely thoroughly decent bloke
Great interview. I can't get my head around all this midi stuff, but very clever.
Excellent
I love my Roland Fantom-06 Keyboard 🎹
Well done Toby, we ( I ) aren`t that tech minded, so i play without midi and triggers
I like the keyboard stand, any ideas on make and model? Would look great in my new 80’s band 😃
Looks like a Jaspers stand....
Please comeback to rialto
Interesting
"every now and then you get a brain fade" ;-)
As do we all :)
Jim's put some weight on, has he not.😮
Going for the Jet Black look? 😊
Decomposed?@@drouthyloon
Why are the guitar & bass going DI & not using the amps ? They sound bloody awful , I can understand small bands who can't afford the road crew to move to stuff but to have the stuff as a prop .They sound more clinical than a private hospital imho .
I know.. sorry..Party pooper here, .. nice guys, good musicians..passionate but, imho : No more Stranglers anymore.. more like a charming tribute band now..
And then.. why not, if some fans like it..
It aint the stranglers crap now
A fine player he may be but why are tribute players being interviewed?
A bit naughty!
Well 2 of the original guys are dead and so couldn`t make it for the tour. I would love to hear your music.
So what has a tribute player got to do with all this? That is the question I asked.
Another question ... why does he wear sunglasses inside, in a club, at night?
The Stranglers are a bit of a joke nowadays.
All credibility has gone. Soon they'll be supporting Human League and Spandau Ballet on one of these union tours. If they are lucky.
