    Yeah, Christmas went nuts this year. My wife and I run a shop out of our basement for Etsy and I already have a full time job. We got a record number of orders in a single day. Got 21 stove covers/noodle board orders in 18 hours. The amount of cutoffs and sawdust alone has been staggering. Burned out 3 RO palm sanders, melted 2 planer belts, took a hand planer to the palm of my hand, nicked my finger tip in the table saw, and stayed up many nights until 4am, just to get up at 6 to go to my normal full time job. To anyone that thinks this stuff is easy, it ain’t. More power to you guys, and hope your holidays are awesome. 👍

      Do you have any tips on breaking into the Etsy market? Just seems like everyone has cornered every inch of it and driven the prices so low. Every product I look into building there is a dozen people selling at or below what my cost is to build.

      @@keyboardoperator802 Etsy selling is a tricky thing. Digital products sell the most, but physical product scan be lucrative if they are high in demand. There are two ways to sell on Etsy, Sell it cheap, or make it unique. If you can do both, even better. For us, we made something that was slightly different than most, but were able to make it cheap enough to appeal to most, cost-wise. For us, adding custom hand painted designs onto the board makes it stand out. Another thing is that spending money on Etsy "ads" definitely increases traffic to our page. We currently average around $3-4 in sales for every $1 spent on ads during peak shopping times, like holidays and weekends.

      @@keyboardoperator802 When first trying to break into a market, and this may sound counter intuitive, your best market is rich people. Sell high quality products at ridiculously high prices. Your margins will be higher, meaning you won't have to have as much inventory to hit your break even point and your competition will be less because they will have to match your skill level and cannot match you through automation.

    Ok, first off you should both be super happy at achieving your goal for 2022. I do woodworking as a hobby, and I sell software for a living. To that end, my particular specialty is around software automation where I focus on inefficiencies and how to resolve them. You are running into a huge one in that your output is now constrained by how quickly Davis can assemble the orders that Jenny sells. That means you have two options, one is to sell less (not a good option) and the other is to get Davis spending less time building while maintaining the same output. When I watch your build process Davis, the first thing I notice is how much time you spend processing the boards down into strips, only to glue them back together into a semi finished product. You also seem to cut the length at 19 inches or so and then trim away about 1 inch off the sides in order to hit your final 18 inch dimension. I would recommend two changes:
    1) Make your strips out to 37 inches, glue them up and process them down to two 18 inch boards. You will have less waste in total and will cut your time processing the wood in half..
    2) Get a panel clamping system (Rockler sells a decent one). THe faster you glue, the faster you get your product completed.
    In short, you don’t want sales to outpace production, this is the heart of every supply chain problem we as a world face right now.

  • @Techreux
    @Techreux ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Davis, I just noticed that you have like 6 different steps which are being done one-board-at-a-time. @Andy pearl is right about things like ganging boards at the band saw, but that table saw step is a slow down. And, all those carts are a huge logjam waiting at each station.. might want to think about an assembly line system after this is over?... Great that you got the glue roller applicator, BTW. For the very specific products you are making, you need to find ways to cut down or eliminate all those "fiddly" steps. Great effort, though, and the products look well made, lovingly crafted - which matters a lot to your customers. Don't let the "overload demand" destroy your love for what you do. Just take on the challenge of making it work better.. you are doing great!

    Screw some 2x4's or 2x2s' against the cart legs inside the carts. Screw to the plastic legs and the top and bottoms for for stability. Also, that planer can handle a lot heavier load than what you are feeding it. You should be able to put 4-5 strips in at a time.

      That's hilarious actually. This whole thing screams something else. They are too expensive for what they are, same boring shape, the glue won't probably last if you are a normal person and wash your board after use, not to mention using a mallet. They could of easily made something out of pine wood, some pallets and put wheels on. They keep saying other pp "the team" . What team and do they get paid or is the team your friend or family and like to work for free? And whoever bought in bulk needs to make a profit too. I've seen some really nice unique boards for less than 70$. These seem meah!

    • @violetspider_
      @violetspider_ ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobodyis buying, is probably just a scam. They have ads so get profit from ad companies and the TH-cam views, and sell the boards for 20$. I live in uk. I just found 300x200 mm 40 mm thick oak chopping board for £ 19.99. and from the pictures of the pp that bought them they actually look like oak. I think that's even cheaper than buying raw oak. Don't even know how they're selling this cheap probably make them in Pakistan or a really cheap labour country like Cuba or something. If i could sell a one of a kind 500x400mm, 40 mm thick for £ 150, i would start buying tools to help me reduce the cost of time and start now. Unfortunately not many pp can afford to spend 150 on a chopping board so it's not productive. And the cost of hardwood over 30 mm thick is crazy high even in US so...😒🤷

      They're not. This is a ruse to try and develope a youtube channel. Obviously nobody's buying a these cutting boards, or any on youtube for that matter. They're a small woodworking project that is good for youtube videos, if the market wasn't saturated. Which it is, and all of their claims of sells are just fucking lies aside from trend-straggler sells.
