The X-E4 or Panasonic S9 would be reasonable comparisons - though quite a bit more expensive. Nothing comes close to the X-M5 right now for price and processing of video and snap shots. I like the X-T50 as well. But really I'm waiting for the X-E5. Fuji are really compelling right now.
I prefer the Olympus E-P7 similar looks, lighter, legendary built-in 5 axis IBIS, smaller lighter faster lenses, better placed front and rear jog dials, flip up screen, Colour/Mono dial to dial in customised ‘film’ looks, Kodachrome and Tri-X on tap, built-in flash and cheaper. Add Fuji lenses to the X-M5 and it quickly becomes a much heavier unbalanced camera. The E-P7 is superb and fun camera that is completely overlooked.
@@thefilmalliance Seems like, Feb 2025 from Adorama. Fingers cross sooner or on time. Did a lot of research, I think this makes the most sense for me as an all around camera. Main goal is capabilities to grow into and just capture the moment. Cheaper than a GR III, so to me this is the GR IV we have been waiting for.
Nice choice! I hope you're having fun with it. Wow - they’re in stock on actual shelves in Best Buy? Who would have thought. Did you get the Fuji X-M5 with the kit lens?
@thefilmalliance - I preordered at a few different places, and Best Buy said they could have it within about 10 days, so I jumped on that. I had my doubts but they came through, even got it a day sooner than expected. I did get the kit lens and it seems pretty good, I also got the TTArtisans 56mm f2.8 (it was only $129 so why not?) and I ordered a Fuji 16-80 for general all-around. I haven’t been able to shoot much of anything yet because we’ve had nothing but rain today.
Excellent review thank you. I went with the Sony ZVe10 with a similar size body, put on those front heavy lenses with a cage, but now I am using a 27mm pancake and having more fun. Lack of Sony color subtlety in the brightest areas is making Fuji look better and better.
799 USD? In Europe it's 899 EUR body only. For the same money you can get a Panasonic S5. For 200 EUR more you can get a Sony A7III. All brand new. Please elaborate why this Fuji camera, with poor AF, no EVF and no IBIS (which makes footage completely unusable with the extreme shake, unless mounted on a tripod or gimbal) a good deal?
Thats 1300 USD for body only here in the USA, perhaps it depends on the country, also different price range and different audience I think. I cant speak for everyone but I dont want to go over 1000 for everything and just get started. What new camera thats portable for 799? I wanted to get the GRIII /or / RX 100 VII which are much older and over 1000$. Compared to those, XM5 is great, plus like you said add a gimbal if youre doing anything professional but again, this is not a professional camera .. its not marketed to that group.. XPRO series are the "Pro"fessional versions.
Size. I love Nikon. I think Nikon is a better deal than Sony or Fuji for the price. But I want something smaller, so for me is Sony or Fuji and no more. The only XM5 similar size camera is the Sony ZVE10II.
It is a very good deal for me. I just started into photography and I chose the xm5. Hits what I need: Small, compact when paired with the Fuji 27mm, fuji sims, & I can easily transfer to my phone. The body + pancake lens cost me a little less than 2000CAD. It's also the looks and size what drew me first. Just very cute and I know I wouldn't be shy carrying it around and taking photos. Plus I have very small hands so the size is perfect. No need for a rig.
i used the a7iii, a7iv aswell as the s5ii, the xh2s and recently also the xm5. the xm5, for its price and size it blows both the a7iii and the original s5 out of the water. not saying that they are bad but they are different cameras made for different purposes.
Great review as a fujifilm user I picked up the black version of X-M5 and love it, agree you need a cage because of the size and placement of 1/4-20 I have the other version of small rig cage including thumb grip. Looking forward to creating great videos while traveling and content creating. BTW how did you like the viltrox 13mm f1. 4?
Great video! I already got mine and love how I can literally take it anywhere without hassle. What lens do you recommended on a budget for street photography/vacation? something that's easy to take, is the viltrox you motioned good enough for both? thx again keep the videos coming!
Thanks, yes the Viltrox 13mm is good but for what you’re doing maybe go with a sigma 18-50 f/2.8 (as long as that one comes on X-mount) - I can’t remember
I have no idea where you've seen this in Europe for 665 euros!? In most places it's 899 euros for body only. In Sweden, where i live, it's about 1000 euros.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Peace be with you! Thank you for this in-depth review of Fujifilm's X-M5. The addition of a video recorder - Atomos (Apple RAW) or Blackmagic Video Assist (BRAW) - will get the most out of the camera. Doing so, would allow enable the camera to record in Apple's ProRes and RAW formats. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks again
Just ordered, to use it for everyday fun (photo+video) and as a b-cam when needed, next to my S5IIX. I didn't buy the kit lens but a Sigma 18-50mm, I'm a bit worried about stabilization, missing on both sensor and lens. If it will be a problem, is there any compact lens with OIS that you recommend? Is the kit lens that bad as I read online?
Great video as always It’s a beautiful camera, I like the size and the Fuji treatment. I’ve always shot on Canon & made the move to Sony in 2020 zv1 , a7c , zve10 so I have a few Sony’s cameras , so I understand the market for this camera and I think it’s a great way to get into a modern but classic vibe Fuji camera. System for content creator needs, and someone that may just want a cool camera that has good specs.
