      it's really not that hard, these people are way too flagrant with showing us their private lives. right now they live in the lap of luxury in exclusive circles with boyguards and police escorts. if someone really wanted to do something, they could. but the times being as they are, people are worried about just surviving.

    Also tried to find it by myself before watching the video, but invested a bit more time googling some pictures to see what those posters on the door say. Hello Gary
    Just because we can - it's the right most window, fourth floor from the top!
    1) you can use 3D view to top over the building to get the exact position - to cover the exactly same buildings with the bridge structure - you get the right most window column
    2) you can use the other way - from the high buildings accross the water body - the one on the left of the bridge, the upper compact part is exactly at the top edge of the bridge - if you align with that line on the building, the top of the bridge projects exactly at the fourth floor.
    3) using 3D view on Google Maps one can clearly see the plants behins the window...
    Anyway - thank you for sharing that basics with all of us.
    😀

    I've tried to find it as well, but it took me a while because I didn't pick up on the scaffolding. But then I realized it had to be close to the water since the guy is rich and also the entrance had to be on the west side, because of the shadows in the picture.

    With NADIR imagery (straight down), you can use the measure tool to drop a point on the near-side Brooklyn Bridge arch, then a point a the top of another building, then with the last point, get the measure line to go from the top of the building through your first marker, and you'll be surpeised how close you can get. Then you can take two points, and get them to converge.
    In the picture of the cat, there are two buildings which line up to key points on the bridge pier that should only converge at the center of the camera's lens. Given those building's fixed heights and the fixed height of the bridge pier - you should be able to come up with a 3D point convergence along two rays. If you did this in Google Earth, you could look at the area in 3D and just line the camera position up with the camera shot - Google has those 3D models of buildings built-in. Kinda takes all the fun out of it.

    • @theGaryRuddell
      @theGaryRuddell  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is wonderful. Just when you talk about NADIR, have you seen the LiDAR scans of the Mayan ruins on National Geographic?!

    • @Real_Tim_S
      @Real_Tim_S ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theGaryRuddell I have, LIDAR and airborne photogrametry are really coming into their stride. Hardware like the Reigl VQ-1560i-DW (IR and Green lasers) give precise distance measurement and shape files, and Wide-swath cameras like he PhaseOne PAS-880 with both high resolution NADIR and simultaneous oblique cameras allow for fast turn-around 3D model generation with photogrammetry or enhanced with LIDAR Mesh correction of buildings and terrain (even under tree canopies or "bathimetry", the contours underwater).
      Some of the newer synthetic aperture RADAR is getting smaller (drone sized!!) and more powerful (as edge-compute power catches up), and so it's also finding its way into surveying and modeling. It's kind of a renaissance of sensor fusion underway. Imagery that could only be dreamed about in movies like "Enemy of the State" or was held by the most secret enclaves of government-scale intelligence agencies is now within reach of even smaller companies and well equipped individuals.
      Then there's "Gorgon Stare" Wide-Area Motion Imagery - "Enemy of the State" like imagery made real. Nothing like 8.1gigapixels of forensically-searchable video, with keyhole/chip-out video feeds in real-time that can be sent down to foot-borne assets for a given target of interest...

    do you think that if we had a photo taken from an apartment, we could use map scales and trigonometry to find the actual height and therefore the possible level of the building where the photo was taken? I think this may be required since some newer buildings are still shown as flat on google maps. I tried using AI to do it but someone refused to confirm if it was correct.

  • @BrendanShephard

    If you can better identify the lowest level you're able to see on "the spikey" building. Then you can probably figure out the height of said floor, I'm sure the height of that bridge is available online somewhere. So you don't just have a straight line between "spikey" building > bridge > window. You have an angled line, and that angel will tell you the exact floor.

      @@theGaryRuddell Oh, I think Gary that would just be a ‘normal’, anything more exciting would surely be champagne.
      As an afterthought, Angelina is reported to be 1.69 meters tall. Using this height measurement and the position of the posters on the glass, the position of the lock on the door, and an allowance for Angelina’s ‘kitten heels’, if there was an ‘unknown’ exiting after Angelina, a very good approximation of the height of the ‘unknown’ could be made.

      @@theGaryRuddell NYC actually pre-dates Hollywood as the cradle of cinema, though Silvercup Studios is younger. Anyway, all their nearby rooftops are pre-scouted and catalogued (surfaces, access, feaures) with prelim property release & other paperwork already done / boilerplate. Those sorts of things can save a film production weeks and tens of thousands (if planned) or millions (if an unmitigated delay). So the wrong (Queensboro) bridge being in that rooftop scene view wasn't merely lazy - it may have been a fall-back.
      Manhattan block grid runs square to East River - so from across the water it's plain to see which street # block you're across from, Gary.

      @@theGaryRuddell like I said, silvercup is just a filming studio / sound stage there & they pre-scouted the available rooftops in the vicinity. It's NOT their own.
      Look at the Manhattan skyline - it's "Manhattanhenge" for a reason. You can see which street # you're at across the river as all other streets are angled.
      Also note that my comment is made strictly in the context of the roofrop shot cited. That rooftop's location have zero to do with street level or apartment scenes, and sometimes even seemingly the same scene / location can in fact be shot at 3 places in 3 different times and we think it's the same spot.
