This is so beautiful from the United Kingdom yes it should be there national anthem although not Australian myself but i think this song should be used for that purpose god bless Australia especially with everything that is going on at the moment
This is the best song ever written to show what being Australian is. We are our history, warts and all. A lot of Australians would like this to be our National Anthem but I am not one of them. My reasoning is that when an anthem is used at international events usually only one verse is used. Which one do we sing, what do we exclude? This is a song that should always be heard in its entirety.
This song should be our National Anthem, it describes what Australia is, who we are, our spirit. Such a beautiful perfect song. RIP Judith our beautiful angel.
It should be our national anthem "BUT", it only displays one indigenous Australians flag. Did you notice or do you know which flag i'm speaking of, if you do know or when you find out one i'm speaking of. Only then it will be perfect for our national anthem. Until all Australian flags are displayed, it is NOT.

Always tears me up. It should be our anthem, because it mentions our first nation people and all the people who suffered to make this country what it is today 😥🥰
Hisforically, the convicts were slaves. But only for a short time - 10 years maybe. Then they might have become "ticket of leave men and woman. Thats a bit like parole I guess. But there were some terŕible prisons and as as Keith sings "endured the lash". Port Arthur. Norfolk island. And remember you could be transported and lived a convict life for stealing just go feed your family in a Britain where you had been forced off your little farmlet so the lords and aristocrats could turn the land into broad acre farming. No work, no food transported to Australia. At least they could be released after time served. But they never saw their families again because it was tok costly to go back or have family come out here on the other side of the world. Yes, this should be our national anthem.
As an Aussie expat this song pulls at the heartstrings. I've gotten jokes overseas about my ancestors being convicts, my ancestors were free settlers and farmers, yes from England and Ireland but also Italy. You'll be hard pressed to find any Aussie expat that doesn't get emotional over this song or "I still call Australia home"
Convicts were sent from England to Australia, and was done so England could get a good foothold and claim Australia as theirs. Most were sent over for petty crimes like stealing bread or the like. I have a few convicts in my family history and this is why they were sent over. Depending on the sentence the convicts were basically slave labor until their sentences ended. This went on for 80 years (1788-1868) and over 162,000 convicts were sent over.
@@CarolineIsahAlways it means that the first White people to arrive in Australia were from the UK and Ireland. However the original Australians were not white. Our indigenous people have lived here over 60,000 years.
Hey Caroline, just wanted to let you know that Judith passed away today aged 79. An Aussie legends 'Carnival Is Over' and she has gone to 'The Emerald City' (a couple more of their hits). Very sad day for her family and us all💔. Thank you for doing reactions to her music xxxx💞
As good as Karen Carpenters voice was and it was great, Judith Durham has her beaten pure clear and just hits you in the chest and emotions come, the world as lost two amazing vocalists with the passing of these women and now we can add Olivia Newton John to these two ladies
Hello there is no need to compete all these ladies had beautiful voices , they make you feel uplifted in side , there’s room for all of these songbirds 🏴
Many of us would love this to be our national anthem. Taken as convicts -prisoners from Britain and Ireland. Their jails were overflowing so back in 1788 to 1868 they sent 162,000 convicts to Australia. The sentence was normally 7-14 years but given how long and horrible and dangerous the journey back would have been I don't think any went back. They say about 20% of us are descended from convicts.
What I love to do is watch as many reaction videos as possible, not only to so see if people reacting to it like it, but if they can tell that all 5 verses tells our Australian history in chronological order. I think when you know exactly what each verse is about, it gives much more impact. (The slideshow of photos actually showed images of each of these). Verse 1: Indigenous Aboriginal native Australians, the oldest human civilisation dating back 40,000 years Verse 2: Convicts and European Settlement in Australian in 1788. A convict man that finished his prison time then bought land and gave it a good go, to either farm of develop the land, where he succeeded. Those who come to Australia who work hard can succeed. Verse 3: A girl who was born in Australia during and after the Great Depression (1929-1939) Verse 4: Talks to significant true stories, songs, texts, and art that that made an impact on our history and culture: "I am Albert Namatjira, and I paint the ghostly gums" Albert Namatjira was an Arrernte painter from the MacDonnell Ranges in Central Australia, widely considered one of the greatest and most influential Australian artists. As a pioneer of contemporary Indigenous Australian art, he was arguably one of the most famous Indigenous Australians of his generation in the mid 1900s. "I am Clancy on his horse" Refers to a poem entitled "Clancy of the Overflow" capturing the grit of the city, and the longed-for freedom of the wide, open plains where Clancy rides. It was written by one of Australia's most famous poets "Banjo Patterson" who is best known for "The Man from Snow River" "I am Ned Kelly on the run" Ned Kelly was an outlaw bush gang leader/bushranger, who was convicted for shooting 3 Policemen. He was able to remain on the run for up to 2 years, before he was brought to justice but made famous by has bulletproof vest and helmet. He was standing up for the rural poor, in which he had thousands of sympathisers. "I'm the man who Waltzed Matilda" Refers to the song "Waltzing Matilda" also an unofficial Australian National Anthem, re-written into a song in 1903 from a 1895 poem. The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker, or "swagman", making a drink of billy tea at a bush camp and capturing a stray jumbuck (sheep) to eat. When the jumbuck's owner, a squatter (grazier), and three troopers (mounted policemen) pursue the swagman for theft, he declares "You'll never catch me alive!" and commits suicide by drowning himself in a nearby billabong (watering hole), after which his ghost haunts the site. You may see a pattern to these references, of those down and out, who have had to turn to crime to help themselves or their families put food on the table. Although crime is never the right thing, we hold these references near and dear to our hearts for the principles of standing up to unfair authority, and keeping Authorities honest and fair through our right to protest, and our values to give everyone a fair go. Verse 5: Sings to vast variety of landscapes we are blessed with in Australia. How we face torrid droughts that run for years, to flooding rains that last for weeks. This really speaks to the farming and flat unbuilt areas of the bush and outback who face these tragic weather cycles, unlike the coast where 95% of Australians live, away from the harsh weather. Gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Us Australians always say it should be our national Anthem. But the best way to react to this song, is the seeker's farewell last live performance of the song: th-cam.com/video/KrLTe1_9zso/w-d-xo.html So emotional, and you get to see the faces behind this amazing composition
Thanks for taking the time to lay this out. Very informative. One small addition: Every animal in the waters and the lands of Australia will try to kill you.
195 Countries in the World, and we have Australian's that originated from all of them. First our Indigenous Australians who lived here for 40,000 years. Then the European Convicts were dumped here. Then the Migrants chose to come here. And today, we have Aussies who's family heritage come from all Countries of the world (195 Countries in the World, and we have Aussie's who's family originated from one of them).

I love this song how is it not our anthem.I’m 44 yr old man with my own family now and it hurts me how divided we have become in the last 10yrs.so many confused angry ppl
Australia was a prision colony, many of the people who were brought over were taken for crimes as small as stealing a loaf of bread to eat. The people brought in chains were the prisoners who built the country from nothing with hard labor and eventually gained their freedom.
I can answer the slave question you’re referring to. Australia was a convict settlement. So one of my ancestors, a 4 times great grandfather, was a convict, I know his whole story, it’s long so I’ll be brief here. He was a tobacconist in Liverpool in England and was caught selling tobacco on the black market of England. He was arrested and deported to Australia. The prisons were crowded in England, Ireland and Scotland at the time, so he was moved to the colony’s. And yes, was then a slave. Slavery was used to establish the colony here in Australia. Many of the Australian population are descendants from convict slaves brought here from Western Europe, or indigenous Australians, or both… as I am. Also indigenous Australians were used for slavery too. It was a hard place. They were hard times. Many convicts escaped and became part of indigenous communities, many were eventually released and often became swaggies who went “waltzing Matilda”, which essentially meant homeless and wandering across the country on foot.
We got a lot of Aussie anthems, this is top 3. I can't believe I'm saying it but watch the Qantas ad (its alright they stole the song it not theirs - I Still Call Australia Home) but it makes people not even from Aus cry
Why this is not he Aussie national anthem I cannot imagine. It is interesting to see a Black person in the Western Hemisphere who for SURE borne the lash and the chains realize that Australia was largely founded by White prisoners and convicts who had a similar fate.
Hi Caroline if you get a chance have a listen to "I still call Australia home" by Peter Allen. I absolutely love that song. Don't listen to the Qantas version because I believe the original is always better no matter what the song
The only thing missing in this song is the flag from the northernist tip of Australia of the TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER flag. In front of the Australian parliament house hosted two native/first nations flags as the national Australian flag is hosted in the middle. The Torres Straits region of the eastern Islands are the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef that lays alongside the eastern Australian coast. The Torres Strait Island flag is not displayed in this song, why! That's a good question❓. If you ever do find out please share.

@@CarolineIsahAlways it means that the first White people to arrive in Australia were from the UK and Ireland. However the original Australians were not white. Our indigenous people have lived here over 60,000 years.
Wow... My God. Thats a lot of years
Thanks... This is really enlightening. I appreciate
Wow, she is an Aussie legend indeed. May her soul Rest in Peace
@@CarolineIsahAlways 🫂🌟🌟
As good as Karen Carpenters voice was and it was great, Judith Durham has her beaten pure clear and just hits you in the chest and emotions come, the world as lost two amazing vocalists with the passing of these women and now we can add Olivia Newton John to these two ladies
Exactly
Hello there is no need to compete all these ladies had beautiful voices , they make you feel uplifted in side , there’s room for all of these songbirds 🏴
Oh yes, totally
Judith Durham from The Seekers passed away this Friday evening aged 79. RIP.
May her soul Rest in Peace.... Its a sad loss
Thanks for this beautiful enlightenment
So sad of Judith passing away.
Yes, so I learnt. Rest on Judith
Rest In Peace our beloved Judith Durham
Amen 🙏🏼
What I love to do is watch as many reaction videos as possible, not only to so see if people reacting to it like it, but if they can tell that all 5 verses tells our Australian history in chronological order. I think when you know exactly what each verse is about, it gives much more impact. (The slideshow of photos actually showed images of each of these).
Verse 1: Indigenous Aboriginal native Australians, the oldest human civilisation dating back 40,000 years
Verse 2: Convicts and European Settlement in Australian in 1788. A convict man that finished his prison time then bought land and gave it a good go, to either farm of develop the land, where he succeeded. Those who come to Australia who work hard can succeed.
Verse 3: A girl who was born in Australia during and after the Great Depression (1929-1939)
Verse 4: Talks to significant true stories, songs, texts, and art that that made an impact on our history and culture:
"I am Albert Namatjira, and I paint the ghostly gums"
Albert Namatjira was an Arrernte painter from the MacDonnell Ranges in Central Australia, widely considered one of the greatest and most influential Australian artists. As a pioneer of contemporary Indigenous Australian art, he was arguably one of the most famous Indigenous Australians of his generation in the mid 1900s.
"I am Clancy on his horse"
Refers to a poem entitled "Clancy of the Overflow" capturing the grit of the city, and the longed-for freedom of the wide, open plains where Clancy rides. It was written by one of Australia's most famous poets "Banjo Patterson" who is best known for "The Man from Snow River"
"I am Ned Kelly on the run"
Ned Kelly was an outlaw bush gang leader/bushranger, who was convicted for shooting 3 Policemen. He was able to remain on the run for up to 2 years, before he was brought to justice but made famous by has bulletproof vest and helmet. He was standing up for the rural poor, in which he had thousands of sympathisers.
"I'm the man who Waltzed Matilda"
Refers to the song "Waltzing Matilda" also an unofficial Australian National Anthem, re-written into a song in 1903 from a 1895 poem.
But the best way to react to this song, is the seeker's farewell last live performance of the song:

So emotional, and you get to see the faces behind this amazing composition
This is really insightful. Thank you for this
Thanks for taking the time to lay this out. Very informative. One small addition: Every animal in the waters and the lands of Australia will try to kill you.
Haaaaaaaa, really?
@@CarolineIsahAlways Yes. If you ever visit, do not, repeat NOT, leave your hotel room.
Now I’m getting scared😀
195 Countries in the World, and we have Australian's that originated from all of them.
First our Indigenous Australians who lived here for 40,000 years.
Then the European Convicts were dumped here.
Then the Migrants chose to come here.
And today, we have Aussies who's family heritage come from all Countries of the world (195 Countries in the World, and we have Aussie's who's family originated from one of them).

I love this song how is it not our anthem.I’m 44 yr old man with my own family now and it hurts me how divided we have become in the last 10yrs.so many confused angry ppl
Its so beautiful.... I hope the division stops and everyone comes together to agree. It's possible
Wow, this is so deep
Try 'Georgy Girl'.
My ancestors were the guards on the prison ships.
Wow, really interesting
A prison colony for England. Instead of jail, the "criminals" were shipped to Australia.
Requiat in Pacem et Lux Aeternum Judith Durham
Amen
Vale Judith
It should be our National Anthem.....I hate our current one. RIP Judith.
It should be
i am australian < 3 #perth
And im pleased to meet you 🤝
We got a lot of Aussie anthems, this is top 3. I can't believe I'm saying it but watch the Qantas ad (its alright they stole the song it not theirs - I Still Call Australia Home) but it makes people not even from Aus cry
Yes, exactly
I am Australian
I love Australians
Don't forget we dropped the bomb
On Japan
Why this is not he Aussie national anthem I cannot imagine. It is interesting to see a Black person in the Western Hemisphere who for SURE borne the lash and the chains realize that Australia was largely founded by White prisoners and convicts who had a similar fate.
I think Judith will always be revered by the majority of Aussies.
Oh yes, I totally agree
So sad that Judith from the seekers passed away today
Yes, its sad 😔
Here is a song reaction target suggestion for you - Harley and Rose by the Black Sorrows!
Hi Caroline if you get a chance have a listen to "I still call Australia home" by Peter Allen. I absolutely love that song. Don't listen to the Qantas version because I believe the original is always better no matter what the song
Ok, thanks
A lot folk came as convicts and treated disgracefully
Hmmm
you can be Australian spiritual
That will be nice... Im just enjoying a great music with deep messages and a beautiful voice sang by a beautiful face
Sadly Judith passed away today aged 79.
Yes, it's so sad. May her soul Rest in Peace
Think this song is good....wait until you watch the lovely Judith Durham singing The Lord's Prayer. Truly magnificent.
Ok, i would check it out. Thanks
So, tell us about the history of your biological county.....and what the history was.... and what was done to your people by your people.......
What do you mean and what has it got to do with this?
The only thing missing in this song is the flag from the northernist tip of Australia of the TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER flag.
In front of the Australian parliament house hosted two native/first nations flags as the national Australian flag is hosted in the middle.
The Torres Straits region of the eastern Islands are the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef that lays alongside the eastern Australian coast.
The Torres Strait Island flag is not displayed in this song, why! That's a good question❓.
If you ever do find out please share.
Ok, thanks a lot for this
