      You're a same man is an insane world, Wes! Did you know that Whistle Stop has an icon on the bottom half of the box that allows you to make sure the top goes on the bottom correctly? That needs to be an industry standard.

    Queendomino > Kingdomino?
    Personally, I believe MonarchDomino (with both together like what Tom said) is the best version of it. You have more tiles, it takes no longer than 45 mins and 7x7 ftw!

  • @llyrghmnghyll

    I feel like the Dice Tower undervalues game simplicity. Kingdomino is a game I can play with almost zero teaching. That simple elegance is what makes it so great. I think the most apt comparison is Love Letter vs Lost Legacy. Tom said something similar there - that Lost Legacy was the better game, but in adding those few more rules it lost the simplicity which makes Love letter so approachable. Lost Legacy has almost disappeared at this point, but Love letter marches on.

    It bothers me that so many gamers can't enjoy simple games. King Domino is such a simple and streamlined puzzle game, SO easy to play with anyone. I love this game as much as I love any complex game. Definitely want to try Queen Domino though

    • @non-alphagamer3618
      @non-alphagamer3618 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Modern gamers will trumpet a game's simplicity, because they don't seem to like games that challenge you to learn, but they then hate on simple games. Doesn't make any sense to me, either.

    • @AmateurBoardgamer
      @AmateurBoardgamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kingdomino - New boardgamer
      Queendomino - just slightly more advanced boardgamer
      I’ll use Kingdomino to teach (who doesn’t love playing a game while teaching the rules) and Queendomino to enjoy the economy created. And finally Monarchdomino (joint) to really have some good fun!

    • @MatheusVenti

      I tend to dislike too simple games, but I enjoy Kingdomino anyway.

    • @TeChNoWC7
      @TeChNoWC7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d usually disagree with you (simple games are fine if that’s your thing, and there are quite a few I like, but often I gravitate towards heavier games and don’t like the push to make things simpler) but in this instance, absolutely agree. I have Queendomino now and keen to try it, but the elegance of Kingdomino is the draw for me, and any additions whatsoever make it look like it would be too clunky to deliver what’s special about it. Why play a complicated Kingdomino when I can just play a game designed specifically with complexity in mind from the ground up?

  • @TheBrothersMurph
    @TheBrothersMurph 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This might be one where we end up getting both, because you can combine them to make the game a 7x7 grid. And then for very very new gamers, or if we have limited time we can just play Kingdomino, and then Queendomino the rest of the time. Having the choice would be nice. Especially when Kingdomino is only $12.99 on CoolStuff, so having both most likely won't break our very small banks. Does anyone know what MSRP for Queen is?

    Loved that music between the intro and the rules overview. Also, the game looks really good too, haven't played king domino but it looked so simple I wasn't certain I wanted to play it yet. Maybe for the kids.....but Queendomino looks more my speed. Oh and Sam's joke segment being left in there was just hilariously mean! :) Queensburg....I'd play that game.

  • @MarcusOfLycia
    @MarcusOfLycia ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it’s an older review and an older game at this point but I bought Queendomino first and liked it a lot, only to learn that for young kids, Kingdomino wins hands down. I play it with my kids and they can pretty much fully grasp the rules. Queendomino not quite so much. Really though, owning both is the right option.

    Simplicity can do wonders if employed properly. King domino IMHO does just that: a very simple yet - or therefore, I should rather say - very enjoyable game. Not gonna make you think very hard, not gonna work your brain too much - but who said good games all must do that?

  • @k_man_raps
    @k_man_raps 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Seems like a really good game that I would enjoy! However, I love King Domino because my mom and dad don't like having to learn complex strategy games! Not that this is complex but my mom would not like having to think about everything! They like King Domino because we can play two or three rounds and then put it away and it hasn't been a million years! Now to be fair, I would probably enjoy the complexity of this more, but King Domino is still going to win over this because I can play it with gamers and non-gamers!

  • @dannydoesright
    @dannydoesright 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I thoroughly enjoy Kingdomino. My friends and I are always trying to best each other and our previous scores. The simplicity is brilliant. Kingdomino feels streamlined and purposeful. Queendomino looks very interesting and I'm excited to see how it feels when playing it. I have already pre-ordered a copy with my FLGS so there is no hesitation on my part. No matter how good Queendomino is, it will never replace Kingdomino for me. It simply isn't possible.

  • @markyturner
    @markyturner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Question is, why play queendomino rather than a host of other nice euros? Kingdomino is clear to me: simple, quick, easy to teach, elegant. What is it that would make queendomino replace other excellent euros?

    • @TheDige
      @TheDige 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Kingdomino filled a cool niche, especially with my wife and kids (when they get a pair more years older). If I want a deeper tile-layer, I have quite a few choices these days!

    • @TorIverWilhelmsen
      @TorIverWilhelmsen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if I want a more complex "Dominoes for gamers" I'd pick Sapiens.

    • @EngMadison
      @EngMadison 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only played Kingdomino 4 times on 2 separate occasions. In I think 3/4 games at least once a player decided to take that bottom tile only to find themselves picking last in the next 2-3 rounds and voicing their dismay that "I guess i'm picking last again." And these are people that really love the game bemoaning this. This on top of the fact that sometimes that tile you are forced to take will not work in your kingdom is incredibly punitive for that one tile you thought you needed. And there's no way to predict the level of which you will be punished when you make that decision.
      I've been told that yes that can happen and does suck, but the game is so quick you should play it 2-3 times per sitting and add the total scores of those games to determine a winner.
      Now winning isn't everything, but I really don't want to have to play a game 3 times to counter balance the randomness and imbalances in a game.
      So I'll ask this question: Why play a quick game multiple times to counteract the pitfalls and possible flaws in the game, when you can play a bit more of a balanced game once?
      For me, Kingdomino is nice, its quick and I do have fun, but isn't a game that offers much depth or decision making which I believe will be the reason why this time next year you wont see it being played much (at least not without Queendomino). I could be 100% wrong, but that's my gut feeling anyways.
      I think when it comes to a quick Cathala game, I much prefer Hand of the King.

    • @cursivecurses
      @cursivecurses 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This might help a smidge. The Queendomino 3p rules are different and I always play Kingdomino this way now. You put out 4 tiles every round, use them all, and just discard the one nobody picks. This will at least make 3p less punishing. Try it and report back.

    When it comes to quick Cathala games I think Hand of the King is miles ahead of Kingdomino. Queendomino looks like it adds that missing piece to Kingdomino that it was desperately missing. I feel like Kingdomino is like playing patchwork without the button economy...without that hook, the game is just, bland. Adding an economy with ways to specialize your kingdom might just be that hook.
    This looks like the version I'd be interested in picking up.

    I wish to heck this is what Renegade would have done with Clank in space. This is how you make a standalone sequel. Add new goodies in, and make it so the original game works as a freaking expansion to the followup. That way people who bought the first one don't feel like they have been sold swampland. They are happy because now they can play that cool new game with 7x7 4 player.

    • @TorIverWilhelmsen
      @TorIverWilhelmsen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This cr*p again? Companies reusing mechanisms in later games do not make the previous games "swampland" unless you feel that a game needs a constant barrage of expansions and no new implementation to be worthy. Nobody threw their copies of Suburbia in the trash when Subdivisions was released. People with Descent 2.0 happily kept playing it when Imperial Assault came out. And so on, and so forth.
