  • It’s very rare for a coconut tree to split. Rotuma’s legendary split coconut tree reminds us of all Rotuman people around the world. While some of us have diverged from our ancestral lands, our roots remain deep in Rotuma. This image inspired the artwork on the cover of the book “Fäeag ‘es Fūaga” Rotuman Proverbs by Elizabeth Inia. Since we launched The Rotuma Project, we have heard from Rotuman people living around the world in Australia, New Zealand, throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, across Oceania and beyond. It’s been so inspiring and you are all giving us even more motivation to bring the project to life. While some of us may be split from our ancestral homeland, may we never forget the roots that have sustained us. Thank you for supporting The Rotuma Project.
