  • In 1951 , NSU launched the Max as an especially sporty and racy motorcycle . With 15 Hp ,it had the most powerful engine in the 250 cc class in germany . from 1954 onwards it was given full-hub breakes , a "buffalo-style" tank and power boost to 17 Hp . In 1956 ,it was upgraded with front and rear forks to form Supermax . In this time , it was best selling motorcycle in germany .

    I forgive you your small madness... still pondering about the tickling? [tupfern?] of the carb. I had such a MAX for many years, was my first serious bike. After some years I discovered that the MAX is picking up better from 3 to 4th gear when the centrifugal adjustment springs are tightened up a bit. [too fast advance curve]. Looking forward for part 15!

    I just finished restoring my second NSU Max... your restoration work is good and it's good to do a test run but I don't understand that you are running the engine without the oil pump connected!! !! even very little time and especially for the first time!!! this is madness...

      You could say a small madness :) . The engine is prepared for this short test. All bearings have factory grease and are adicionaly lubricated with oil . The needle bearings are bathed in oil before assembly ,and their bearings shell were filed with oil .All moving parts are lubricated with oil before assembly, and before installation parts are additionally "sprayed" with oil. Before engine test ,head cover was removed and camshaft bridge was submerged in oil (camshaft , rockerarm , valves) . Entire camshaft mechanism was additional lubricates thro the engine head hole .There is around 0.5 L of oil inside of engine housing after all of this preparation . I use very thick oil 20-50w ,this oil stay long on surfice . For testing I use 2-stroke fuel.
      It would be much smarter to test engine with oil tank ,then you can test it as long as you want .

    Startovanje motocikla sa centralnim mahanjem bez rezervoara za ulje i ulja u njemu je ravno samoubistvu, čak šta više nije ni preporučeno kiksanje na prazno kamo li hladan start agregata.

    can you explain why you made the first run without the oil tank connected? really dont get it.
