1979 Puch Magnum Project Part 4 - ZA50 Engine Disassembly

  • Taking apart the ZA50 Motor, I don't have any of the special tools so I just used an impact wrench which worked fine and made a flywheel puller.
The aluminum I used for the puller was a bit too thin so it bent, I stopped recording to look for a mallet to give it a couple of gentle taps and it free'd itself .....
I'm sending the Crankshaft off to mopedcrankworks for a roller bearing installation, so Part 5 will likely be repainting the frame/tank/side covers etc

Say did you ever put the Za back together? Now that would be a great watch! You do really nice work. Not sure why you didn't narrate but after awhile I can see that your hands communicate with some questioning gestures. Keep up the good work

Your right - The bike has an automatic clutch, and because that isn't engaged when the engine isn't spinning fast enough that cable forces another clutch to engage so that it can be started by pedaling.

It bent, then when I was looking for a rubber mallet to give it a slight tap while under some outward pressure it popped off itself... off course while the camera wasn't recording.

How did you remove the magnet wheel? (excuse me for my bad english i don't know the english noun, in german we say "Polrad")
In minute 12:24 you've made a cut and i can't see how you've done it.
I have the problem that the magnet wheel is stucked and i can't remove it.
It even bend my gear puller out of shape.
I would be glad if you could help me because your videos are great! :)

Der Grimm I used the homemade puller shown at 11:00. Mine was VERY stuck, I had left the puller on, and turned the camera off while I looked for a rubber mallet to strike the side of the flywheel. Unfortunately while the camera was off the wheel came unstuck and popped off the crankshaft.
I'd recommend buying the correct gear puller with bolts and not the jaw style (preferably made from steel, as the aluminum one I made bent a little).

How do you get the krankshaft properly shimmed while doing the assembly?

What is that green cable for? The thing is connected to what slmost seems like it have to do with a cluch or something but these type of engines doesn´t have that since they are automatics so im clueless.
