  • "Hello! It's completely understandable to have concerns about your milk supply, especially as a new mom. However, the fact that your breasts are not leaking is not necessarily an indication of insufficient milk production. Breast leakage varies significantly among mothers and can even vary from one pregnancy to another in the same woman.
Leakage, or the lack thereof, is not a reliable indicator of milk supply. Some women may experience a lot of leaking, while others may have none at all, regardless of their actual milk production levels. The most important indicators of adequate milk supply are your baby’s weight gain, your baby should be gaining weight steadily after the first few weeks.
Here are a few tips to ensure your milk supply is adequate:
    1. **Ensure Proper Latching**: A good latch allows your baby to effectively remove milk from the breast, stimulating production.
    2. **Feed on Demand**: The more frequently your baby breastfeeds, the more signals your body receives to produce milk.
    3. **Avoid Pacifiers and Bottles Early On**: This helps to establish a good breastfeeding routine and avoids 'nipple confusion.'
    4. **Stay Hydrated and Nourished**: Good hydration and a balanced diet are crucial for maintaining milk production.
    5. **Rest As Much As Possible**: Although it's challenging with a new baby, try to get enough rest. Fatigue can impact milk production.
If you are still concerned about your milk supply or your baby’s growth and intake, I recommend keeping a feeding diary and discussing it during your next visit. This can help address specific concerns with concrete data. If you haven't taken guidance from us yet, consider consulting our lactation specialist who can provide personalized support and guidance.
