I found your video by searching "sony a6300 video test." I'm looking for a camera to take pictures and videos. I wanted to see what others like or dislike about the a6300 and should I look for a different all-around camera. What is your opinion?
v8power thanks for your reply. I bought the a6500 & 6300 because I take photos as well as video. it's small enough to use on a gimbal for a long time and also small enough to shoot a wedding without toting around 2 huge DSLR. it's fast autofocus if great for photos and video. video gives 120fps and 4k which are the highlight features for me. a6500 has in body stabilization which is helpful. I hope this helps you! any other questions feel free to ask and I'll give you my personal take
Shots With Minh Hi! your video was recommended. I shoot with a a6500. do you know of any good lenses for music videos? I've been doing some research but haven't found anything that I liked.
I'll be doing some travel videos in the next couple of months. As a first lens for this camera, which one would you go with first...10-18mm or 18-105mm? Cheers
Rene Lopez personally, the 18-105 looks too big and bulky for travel. I typically stay wide mostly for travel type videos anyhow but since they're both the same fstop lens, it seems to make sense to get the 18-105 for everyday use after the travels.
Wow, this looks really good! Awesome job done! Could you please tell me did you have to licence the music used in this video, or it is copyright free (free to use in monetized videos)? Thanks
I am totally amazed by the wonderful mood and brilliant way of filming. If I may ask as I am new to filming...did you use any sort of gimbal here? I also was wondering how you did the focus pulling here...is it all manual focusing only done from the LCD screen? I love when filmmakers like you work with the focus as it makes it so much more entertaining. You are a wonderful inspiration for me and to want to start doing some films as I am a photographer with the newborn taste for film ;-) Cheers:-)
Thank you. I used a zhiyun crane gimbal. I used autofocus on the a6500. I did use the touchscreen focus option but mostly I used autofocus. I purposefully put the focus on something else and then point to the subject in order to get the focus to switch. I hope that helps
Nice work! But which scenes were filmed with 6300 and which with 6500? Is there any significant difference between video recorded with those two cameras? I see a lot of music videos on TH-cam filmed with 6300 and not so many with 6500 and I can't get rid of an impression that 6300's videos look more cinematic...
trueTrueTrueman hi, the a6300 and a6500 are practically the same. They have the same video quality. The major difference is the 6500 has built-in image stabilization. The 6500 has touch screen and slightly different button configuration but nothing that affects image quality. You probably see more 6300 videos because it is more affordable than the 6500.
David Simon since the updates on the a6300, I haven't had it overheat under regular conditions. I had it overheat once at a wedding (1 hr wedding ceremony at 2pm in 90° weather trying to record for an hour straight - it overheated about 35 or so minutes in). Other than that, nothing. My a6500 I never had a problem with other than that same wedding.
bro this is soo dope, I love moodiness of this. So I have a question, how many batteries do you have with your sony? How long does the battery last with continuous 120 fps and 4k?? Is it different switching from a 6d full frame to this? Im just wanting some more slow mo, and the canon 6d doesnt cut it unless i use magic lantern but the work flow is too intense for me.
Guinto hi, thanks. I own 10 batteries for 2 Sony's (a6500 & a6300). I bought 10 batteries because I shoot weddings so I end up using most of the batteries. I can't officially give you the answer to how long it will shoot continuously since I've never officially tested that. I will say that the batteries don't last as long as any other cameras though. Also if you're shooting continuously (literally nonstop 30 minutes clips back to back) the camera may heat up and need a rest (-con of these cameras) my best guess of how long they'll last on continuous 4k/120fps shooting is about an hour. I've never shot on a 6d but the reason I bought the a6500 is for the compactness (for flying on gimbal) the 120fps!, 4k, and autofocus. I came from Canon (crop sensor though) and love these Sony's way more.
You just earned a subscription. Beautiful shots! Question, did you shoot these all in 4k and exported in 1080p? I just got the A6300 recently and I am torn if I should shoot a mixture of 4k (for beautiful sharp image) and 1080p at 60 and 120fps (for nice slow-mo) and just export everything 1080p at the end? Let me know your thoughts with your previous work?
Khai Le hi, thanks! yes when I shoot at 24fps I shot in 4k, and then slow motion at 120fps and export everything in 1080. This is what I do pretty much every time. I shoot at 60fps when I am in low light and need slow mo
Thanks Minh! Do you put it the mix of 4k and 1080p raw footage on a 1080 timeline? Sorry for the many questions but you're the only person that replied right away! (vs other forums)
Khai Le I'm happy to help any time. I put it on a 1080 sequence and then just scale the 4k to 50% so it fits. The benefit from that is you can also zoom in and out with the 4k footage without losing resolution
mynameistim I think it's an excellent camera with all the features I need. if you can afford it, get the a6500 though, in body image stabilization is a life saver. the alternative is a6300 with gimbal to get smooth shots
Shots With Minh yeah thats right, but I'm a student... no money.... hahaa but I'll gonna buy the a6300 and film with my steadycam, I already got :) thanks for answer men!
Morten Skov all the show motion footage is shot in 1080 at 120fps and the first in 24fps is 4k. I typically will shoot both, some times shoot the same scene in both so I can have a variety in post
love the location. only thing I would criticize is that in some of the shots, her eyes are like half in and half cut off which just looks a little weird/distracting to me.
SOULPAD thanks. mostly with a 35 1.8 from Sony. The macro eye shot was with a vintage lens vivitar 55 2.8. One of the wide shots was with a Sony 16 2.8.
Fints Poon I used autofocus on every shot except the macro ones. it's pretty great, especially on a gimbal. it's not 100 percent reliable but I use it alot. I'd still do manual focus if I'm not on a gimbal though. also your autofocus also depends on the lens you have on there. some lens aren't as great. the best one I own is the 35mm 1.8 for autofocus for video
Shots With Minh just upgraded to gh5 but gh4 is a great starter Camera. Plus for the batterylife and the cheap but great Panasonic lenses. Autofocus is not the best but overall great camera
How did you find my video? if you wouldn't mind replying here on what lead you to my video, that would be helpful. thanks!
I found it by searching video samples of a6500. amazing work my Friend

Miles Royal Films I used CBR and Targeted 40 bit rate.
here's a video that may help you.

Great Work Bro...........Questions Did Your Sony Find Any Overheating Problems
David Simon since the updates on the a6300, I haven't had it overheat under regular conditions. My a6500 I never had a problem with other than that same wedding.
David Simon that's recording in 4k. When I saw the overheat signal, I just switched over to 1080 and that did the trick.
this looks epic!
so inspiring dude
Shane thanks!
Amazing video. Great edit
supermoto pirates thanks man

Yes the camera does have rolling shutter. I think all mirrorless currently have rolling shutter
omg the quality is so fresh!!! please can you tell me what bitrates did u use when exporting this video?
mindblowing ..

Ismail Ahres this is for 1080 export
thanks u so much .. much love 💗
Awesome takes 👌🏻. Love your color-grading. I was wondering, what lens did you use on the first part of the video?

Is everything shot in 1080? Can't figure out if I should shoot everything 25 fps in 4k or not.
Morten Skov all the show motion footage is shot in 1080 at 120fps and the first in 24fps is 4k. I typically will shoot both, some times shoot the same scene in both so I can have a variety in post

Divine Light Films I agree, definitely something I'm more conscious of now. Thanks for the feedback
Hey what lens are using for this, awesome video btw
Richard Germane thanks, I mainly used a Sony 35mm 1.8 on a gimbal, Sony 16mm 2.8, a vivitar 55mm 2.8 for Canon FD mount, and a rokinon 50mm 1.2.
Thank You, So you you switched it up I think I'm gonna get the body then get the Rokinon 50 mm 1.2.
Richard Germane yah I changed up the lens. that's a sweet lens, make sure you get an nd filter for it though 1.2 let's in a lot of light
Very well. Keep up the good work! greetings from germany ;)
simonredadam thank you all the way from Florida!
all with the same lens? great video!
SOULPAD thanks. mostly with a 35 1.8 from Sony. The macro eye shot was with a vintage lens vivitar 55 2.8. One of the wide shots was with a Sony 16 2.8.
Love the bokeh off that lens
What lens did you use to get that intimate eye shot
Vivitar 55mm 2.8 Macro
Nice Job!
this is great! what iso range? subbed!!!!!
5GzFilms I don't remember but I did keep it low. For most shots I underexposed about 2 clicks
Amazing Video 🙌
Very nice well done

Great Video!!!
shots With Minh how you color grade your shots?
archie cirpo hi, see the link in the description, I have a video showing you how I achieved this look, hope it helps!
Shots With Minh tnx man..looking forward to your next video..hehe
soon :)
Damn this was amazing...
What lens did you use for the close-up shots?
Nolan Simmons the macro shots were vivitar 55mm 2.8 FD mount on a focal reducer.
Ah, a nice vintage lens! Thanks, dude!
Nolan Simmons definitely, vintage lens are a great option for sure. glad to help
Incredible quality! Did you shoot any of this in 4k and downscale to 1080p??
Fints Poon thank you, the slow motion shots are 1080, the regular speed shots are 4k downscaled to 1080
Thanks for that, this video has really made me consider the a6500. what sony glass did you use?
Fints Poon its a great camera, Sony 35mm 1.8 and 16mm 2.8
hey i wanted to ask, did you shoot this in auto focus? Is the AF good enough to just track the face, has the a6500 made manual focus almost redundant?
Fints Poon I used autofocus on every shot except the macro ones. it's pretty great, especially on a gimbal. it's not 100 percent reliable but I use it alot. I'd still do manual focus if I'm not on a gimbal though. also your autofocus also depends on the lens you have on there. some lens aren't as great. the best one I own is the 35mm 1.8 for autofocus for video
Awesome video!
Film by Westin checked out your videos, good stuff
Film by Westin how do you like the gh4?
Shots With Minh just upgraded to gh5 but gh4 is a great starter Camera. Plus for the batterylife and the cheap but great Panasonic lenses. Autofocus is not the best but overall great camera
