Agreed! Roll in front of your players and let the dice decide fate. While it may seem paradoxical, the added lethality increases gaming satisfaction.
Agreed!
Agreed! The open dice rolls are much more exciting and satisfying even in character death. Death is not the end, just the start of the next chapter
Absolutely.
Sometimes rolling behind the screen can be better. Make secret checks to see if a character successfully stealthed his way out of a situation or if the monsters are just pretending to not see him. Make secret checks to see if a character successfully recalled some secret obscure knowledge or if he was actually wrong or misremembered something. Just be creative about it!
(bonus points if this makes your players paranoid haha)
I know some folks love their screens, but everything you just described can be done without one. As you said yourself, you just have to be creative about it. ;)
Gotta keep the screen around, though. Every once in a while, you gotta roll some dice back there whether anything's happening or not, just to keep the players guessing. 😁
You can still do that without a screen. I do all the time. Except I have a player roll a die with no explanation, followed by me saying, "ah, interesting!" Its scarier to them when they think they did it to themselves! 😂
Great advice as always Nick!
Thanks Nate!
Forget the Screen???????? WOW, after years of gaming and DMing (D&D) to roll in the open is interesting. Bought the Reference Booklet already :) Next up...new dice.
THE SCREEN IS TYRANNY! Set yourself free! 🤣
