VLOG#10 - HOW TO CONDUCT WEEKLY AND MONTHLY EQUIPMENT TEST OF GMDSS | HOW TO BE A THIRD MATE SERIES

Hello 3rd, time for another video. So I already made a video on the daily equipment test so its time to discuss about the weekly and monthly equipment test of our GMDSS Station.

HOW TO CONDUCT DAILY EQPT TEST OF THE GMDSS
Watch the video for the details. And follow these gentle reminders:
✔ Do not forget to log your entries on the Radio Log and as much as possible compile all the test result printouts in one folder. Your effort will be gone to waste if you do not have a record about it because these records are the one the the inspectors and auditors need.
✔ Weekly test is additional to daily. Personally, I usually do my equipment tests on Saturday together with my tests on the LSA & FFE. This means that on a Saturday, I have to do both daily plus monthly equipment testing. Same goes with monthly.
✔ One common thing that often gets mislooked is the signature. Remeber that Master should sign and stamp the radio log weekly AND at the end of every page. So if the week ends in the middle of the page, you have to have sign and stamp on the middle and another one at the end of the page.

That was a nice video , very informative . But I would like to ask where in current regulation stated we need to test our ais TX/RX weekly ?, I believe ais is not part of gmdss equipments as per the title, and for sure you did not write on gmdss logbook that ais test. tia for answering .

No any requirements that you should send a message from AIS to another vessels.
Only memory,internal and gps test...
Also you should check distress buttons and alert units on inmc in test mode...

What is the correct term for SART? when in school it was taught to be as Search and Rescue Radar Transponder and I was asked by my offficer once what is the meaning of SART I replied that meaning and she corrected me that its a Search and Rescue Transponder

The Sart that you find on a radar is a transponder. This because the Sart listens out in the band for radars and then reacts. The AIS Sart is a transmitter. Once you switch it on it will just keep on transmitting an AIS signal.
