I hadn’t heard this song before and I wouldn’t have pegged it as a Rolling Stones song. The keyboard intrigued me. Playful and light, almost childish. But then it takes on a second theme. Perhaps it was two instruments instead of one.

Nicky Hopkins was offered full membership in Led Zeppelin and turned it down. He did, however, appear on five Led Zeppelin albums. Nicky also has recorded with the Who, Stones, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service and many, many others. Listen to Edward the Mad Shirt Grinder with Quicksilver. Amazing guy dead from Chrone's disease way too early.

My father used to pick me up to hang out with him, or just spend time with him doing errands. I wasn't a fan of most of the music he had, so one CD I did enjoy was the Rolling Stones greatest hits, and She's a Rainbow was the first track on it. I get misty eyed every time I hear this song, thinking about what I wouldn't give to have another one of those rides again.

"Dandelion" by the Rolling Stones has a similar vibe as this one. Both are great child-like songs from their psychedelic era of 1967. Their music of this period drifted far from their Chuck Berry/Chicago blues roots but this was a time of experimentation of music, culture and substances and both artist and audience were freaking out together as the 60's rolled on. Groovy man!

It's from 1967 so it is definitely hippie-psychedelic, right from one of the biggest years of the hippie era. Early Pink Floyd from the same time actually sounded really similar to this. Try their "See Emily Play" to hear it. There was no official video to this song (songs didn't typically come out with videos until the eighties), so this was probably put together much later by some fan. The people in it don't look like they're really from 1967 or even the sixties but like people from a much later decade dressed up to look like they're from the sixties, at least for a lot of the images anyway.

Such a different song for the Stones. Instruments that were rarely used much by anyone, like the mellotron and the celesta. John Paul Jones (who later was a big part of Led Zeppelin) did the arrangement for the strings. Jagger definitely had the chops to carry off vocals where screaming wasn't required too LOL. They sure were the best at being a step behind the other bands of their time always copying the work of others. Their best musician was Brian jones who died in the 60’s. You could find a bunch of kids playing in their garage that sound better than them. They have been ripping people off for about 30 years.

@@MUE4731 and then there's the most blatant rip-off band, just a small quote for ya.
John Bonham, for example, transformed the drum beat from Little Richard’s “Keep a Knockin'” into the motor behind “Rock & Roll.” For better and worse, beats aren’t protected by copyright, while melodies and lyrics are - which is why so many songwriters have sued the band. As with most aspects of their career, Led Zeppelin seemed to operate on the principle that it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Members of The Beatles and The Stones were good friends, and John and Paul visited them during The Stones' first recording session. Mick was complaining that they didn't have a hit yet, so John and Paul said to give them a few minutes. 30 minutes later, the two Beatles returned with the lyrics, and general tune, to The Stones' first hit song. Mick and the boys were so stunned by what happened, it inspired them to start writing their own songs. And the rest is history!
I love The Stones, but when comes to being influential in music and by sales alone, no musical artists beat The Beatles. They have sold over 1.5 billion records and hundreds of millions of albums. More than anyone, ever. Love them or hate them, The Beatles rule over all of music. The music industry doesn't even include them in album charts anymore, because they usually outsell everyone, every year, even these days. Heck, their greatest hits CD, 1, sold over 30 million copies, more than most artists sell their entire career.

The Rolling Stones definitely get the award for longevity. One of the earliest modern rock bands, they were big in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. As for who is the best, it would have to be between the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, with a Hall of Fame full of honorable mentions. Virtually every band cites the Beatles and Led Zeppelin as influences, and a high percentage of the songs on their albums are hits.

Saying the Stones were pilgrims at the feet of the Beatles gods is a bit like saying Messi had posters of Ronaldo on his wall and learned to play from him. Which band is best depends on your taste. Lots of arguments available to call Beatles the best band of all times. As it also is with Stones. And Zeppelin. And Queen. And Pink Floyd. And Metallica. The Stones copied the Beatles a bit sometimes. Sometimes not as good as Beatles themselves, sometimes better. But both bands def had their style and creative brilliance. Lots of great songs. Best band? The band that you/I/he/she finds the best. Beatles are insanely good at their best, not that good in every song. Same as Stones. None of them are "Definitely the best band ever" by any definition other than taste.

Fun fact: In 1972, the Stones were literally exiled from the UK for "tax exile" and got screwed over by record label ABKCO, thus fleeing to the country of France where they recorded half of the albums music in the city of Nellcôte, France. The album is very diverse in many genres of music from Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, some Psychedelia music and Gospel. Although it received mixed reviews at it's time, "Exile..." would be voted at 14th of the 500 Greatest Albums by Rolling Stone magazine!
