Gauths are actually a type of Beholder - these creatures like the Death Kiss and Observer are referred to as Beholderkin. Gauth have been around since 2E, they are smaller than real Beholders and have quite different powers, most annoying and (to adventurers, horrifying) is draining charges from magical items and neutralizing them. They have less deadly eye rays than Beholders, mostly throwing spells around like lightning bolt and cone of cold, and their central eye feebleminds you.
Gauth are one of many beholder kin who have existed in game for decades.
These are my favorite kind of boosters. Lots of monsters with a general theme and a few general PC minis. Campaign specific minis like NPCs should be in their own sets with the possible occasional rare in a booster of an alternate sculpt. Hate when a named NPC was an uncommon with limited ways to use them and I get multiples. Thank you for the detailed and well-produced review.

Finally picked up a brick of this and was pretty happy with my rares (black abishai, deep scion, and young deep dragon). You’d think I wouldn’t have to worry too much about duplicates in the brick, but not so. I got 2 of each sorrowsworn, 2 duergar, 2 chitines, 2 oinoloths, and 2 catoblepases. So that was a bit disappointing.
Really liking the drow dump of minis! Running a drow let’s take over the world campaign staring my wife’s deserter drow. Thanks for the video

This is a strong set, but I feel the best are the Large and Huge minis, especially the Uncommons. Some really useful or cool monsters, many that we have either never seen before, or a long time ago only. The Howlers, Catoblepas, Gauth. Tlincalli, Retriever, and the hilarious Outhouse Mimic all stood out.
The Dinosaurs, I wish, had better coloring. That said, the sculpts were great. The Female Steeder is an awesome but wrongly sized mini - these spiderlike creatures should be just Large - and used for combat, the Medium sized Male Steeders are pack animals... but the way the art depicts them, even as a Huge, the Duergar riding them remains tiny.
The two best Rares are easily the Molydeus - a creature I waited for decades to finally get a miniature, and hope only came back when it got an artwork in the re-released book - and the Young Deep Dragon. The latter is a certainly innovative redesign of the old Purple/Deep Dragons, but I like it, fits the Underdark theme with the googly eyes, fungal growth and lack of 6th limb wings - and they match the Fizban's Wyrmlings great in style.
I am hoping modular Uncommons like the Firenewt on Giant Strider become more common as time goes on.
There are also many minis I kept multiples of -I kept all the Xvarts I found, Chitines and all 3 Green Abishai plus 2 Canoloths and Rutterkins. Those big burly Bugbears make great bodyguards for a chieftain, put on either side.
Some minis were surprising rarity choices, like the Emerald Dragonborn Bard, or both Yuan-Ti. But none hurt more than the Black Abishai, who are weaker and work in larger numbers than the Green, yet were Rare. I am really hoping we get an Abishai Warband with new poses of these minis, with multiple White and Black Abishai to rectify this.
For me, personally, there were however quite a few minis among the Commons that were either the kind of new or 3E creature I do not collect (Changelings, Sorrowsworn) or due to the revised WotC book's artwork, just not fitting with my older minis in aesthetics (most of the Drow, Derro and Duergar). Some here work better than others - the Deep Gnome and Duergar Soulblade, Matron Mother and Abjurer still have that dark grey skintone I would want, but then we have the light blue skin of the Xarrorn (is he a Frost Dwarf?), pale grey of the House Guard, purple of the Warlord and Derro Savant, or the almost light pink of the regular (druid) Duergar... However the worst insult was the Drow Shadowblade, I can deal with purple or light grey drow, but light GREEN??? Are they turning the Drow into Warcraft Night Elves??? I did not keep a single one of that mini, as also their clothing was really un-drowlike.
Overall though, this is a set you wanna get a case of for the many useful Commons and Uncommons.

Ok, no, who is the genius that thought that the Quetzalcoatlus, a terrifying murderstork 7m tall, with a 14m wide wingspan and a 3m long spear shaped head should be just a CR2?
Love the deep scion with his fringehead's mouth.
I like this new fungoid deep dragon.
Honestly, I think that the booster box system works also to get players and DMs minis that are not exiting but really helpful in a campaign; let's be honest, when we browse for minis we always looks either for our specific pc or a cool monster/npc, but we also need goons, small threats, paesants.
I recently started re-painting my old pre-painted kobolds amd the seven that I own are all from these kind of boxes and if I was to rely on wizkids to bolster my numbers, I'll rather go for a booste, risking not finding a kobold, findig other minis that might be useful, rather than the alternative (50$ for seven kobolds is insanity).

This is a great set. First set where I've bought 2 bricks b/c I didn't get an outhouse in my first one.
If the set itself is good then the booster sets are a much better value than the fixed visible sets that are on offer. I find only 1 out of 3 or so of the booster sets are worth buying but when they are worth it they're the best value on offer.

The shoosuva looks like the Abyssal Ravager miniature (of the 20 year old miniature game Chainmail). I would preffer darker colors but it looks promising! It's about time we had a cotoblepas prepainted mini with the classic dessign. And the mimic is the star of the set. There are some minis that would be fantastic to have more than one copy of it but many others are good for only one copy. I would recomend buy a few boxes and then start hunting the missng ones.

If that was sarcastic then that flew over my head 😗 Cuz I thought that mini was cool, coulda used some more "worms" on the model although the cost/mold might have been too much, I dunno. And I understand *ME liking a mini is just that but I like to hear critique. keeps me thinkin
