I have loved Allison's singing for many years. This song is the ultimate testament to how amazing she is as a vocalist and interpreter of music. You can feel the years of hardship she has endured since she was a young girl coming through in her interpretation of this classic Irish ballad. I have listened to every version of this song that I can find and I cannot find one that even comes close to her performance. I will forever be in awe of her immense talent.

The only thing that could have improved this rendition would be cinematic costuming and make up to present her as having her "day's numbered." She is in full throated vitality, strength, beauty and youth here. Tamper with that dissonance for the illusion.

We visited Carrickfergus in 2022. In the Boneybefore neighborhood we were welcomed by a wonderful host at the Andrew Jackson cottage museum (and U.S. Rangers Museum). Not fond of Jackson's legacy, but his mother was one of six sisters, another of whom was my sixth great grandmother, Sarah Hutchinson, married to Samuel Leslie. All we know about their Irish origins is that they were married in Antrim and sailed in the mid 18th century from Carrickfergus to Pennsylvania (and moved to the Carolinas.)

One of the saddest and most nostalgic of all the millions of love songs that have ever been written. The choices we make and then have to live with, the roads that lead to nothing, the loss of money, energy, self- belief, hope as time goes by. Everything is here. My heart cracks and shatters each time I hear it, as if it were my own story.

Ballygrant and Kilmeny are actually located on the inner Hebrides island of Islay, part of Scotland. For some reason the writer of the songs lyrics changed Kilmeny to Kilkenny. Kilmeny does have a stone quarry that is mined for black stones, especially for gravestones.

@@stacywalsh4248, Thank God, there are still some relatively Young, Talented Musicians ( not everyone can be An Author, Autistic-Child Mother, Musician, Singer-Songwriter and Superb Vocalist like Ms. Moorer ). BUT, these 'Authentic Talented Artists' are difficult to locate, because BIG $$'s Bucks Music can Not maximize the Profits via Cookie-Cutter Marketing ! No Talent Wanna-Be's with Melodic Analysis & Auto-Tune can easily be Marketed to make BILLIONS !! Big Sis, Shelby Lynn is a fair Talent herself. I’m only fifth generation Irish descent but on both sides of my bloodline but this song has reached into my British body and mind an straight through to my Irish heart and soul, and I am once again approaching 🚢 Larne for the first time 1978 looking f the greenest grass I’d ever seen, I knew I was home.
I know I must go back there one day but will it destroy a beautiful memory, the people, the crack and beauty I left behind 🥰 I was 18 remember I was young and my whole life ahead and settling down was an option for a free traveling man / boy. Loosing those memories I think that’s what I’m afraid of? ❤️😂

Beautiful rendition! Carrickfergus, the city where it is rumored was the starting place of my Ross Clan before crossing the Atlantic, settling in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania about 1750. I would imagine Northern Ireland is very beautiful and perhaps I will get to see it before passing on! Thanks for sharing with all of us.

Alisson delivers the perfect rendition of this beautiful and traditional Irish song, and the accompanying musicians are absolutely from the very top drawer. So so beautiful, thanks so much to all of you. 🙋‍♂

I fell cross this song with Charlotte Church singing it, such a beautiful song, now I keep searching for other renditions of this song and Allison does a fantastic job with so much emotion.

This is stunning beautifully sung by ALLISON MOORER and played by the musicians, a deeply sad song about hard times and starvation during the potato famine time in Ireland when grain, other foods and livestock were being shipped over to the good UK, yes the Irish were stolen from by their nearest neighbor a so-called superpower during the worst of times. Not much has changed, similar brutality is now been carried out in the Holy Land at this time and in other places in our world. Jesus and his blessed mother Mary weep for those starving people who are been bombed and shot at and driven from, their homes with nowhere to go, attached by their nearest neighbor a so-called superpower

I love this song and have listened to many great singers performing it, but I'm not going to bother with any of those versions any more. None of them even come CLOSE to this. This is the most spectacular version ever. This singer and these musicians are stupendous. I'm stunned.

The combination of Alison's voice and the beautiful music dovetail together perfectly in such a wonderful atmosphere and setting. You can see in the musicians faces the respect and admiration they have for this performance, truly from the heart.
