  • The LDS temple is one of the most distinctive aspects of Mormonism. It excites controversy, and even some members of the LDS faith are not comfortable with it. I stand out a little from the pack of ex-LDS people in that I always enjoyed the temple. I try to help everyone understand the temple a little better, and especially why it may be that it causes discomfort. That discomfort may contribute to ongoing changes to the ritual. Sorry it's long, but this is a complicated topic.

It makes perfect sense for a bishop actively committing adultery to decide if a person is worthy of a temple recommend. True story. No man has the right to judge another person's spirituality in that way especially when he's committing such sins.

Hello, Kathy! Thanks for coming by to comment. I don't know anything about this story or the people involved, but it sounds terrible. Bad things definitely do happen, and that is regrettable.

@@CoffeeWithKish-h9m I understand and would never name the individuals involved. I have been best friends with a lds for 56 years and it was in her ward in Florida. She had even been called in to his office to be reprimanded for something she did while he was in the throws of this behavior. I realize we have all sinned and come short of God's grace and none is perfect. Even though I'm Baptist, I was very defensive of her especially learning what he was doing and acting so self-righteous with the members. Thanks for responding.

There are definitely a lot of people who hold others to standards that they don't actually live. That kind of hypocrisy makes me angry, but I encounter it fairly often, not just in religious communities but elsewhere, too.
