Very informative. I have not yet used any of the yarn cakes, so your video will help me to know what to look for when I do start using yarn cakes.

I just started using some on the newer yarns (besides Red Heart & Carron). I went to AC Moores and was kind of lost with all the yarns, so this is helpful

I love the cakes too Summer! I don't care for the bernat at cakes.
Ur right about the ruffness of them. But pretty much like all the others cakes. Thanks for all the information.

Hi Summer! I just discovered your channel and am enjoying watching your videos! I have a question which you may have already answered somewhere but since I just started watching I’m not sure. What does the purple banner above your yarn cubbies say? I love wine so I’m curious. Haha. Thanks so much for this video about cakes too. Really good info that I wasn’t aware of.

So before I started to crochet, I painted wine glasses. I used to sell them at craft shows with a friend. We called our little business 'Moms who Wine". I mostly crochet now...but kept the banner.. good memories with a dear friend. I think my second video on here was about painting wine glasses....check it out.

Best comparison of the yarn cakes I seen!
    Thank you Summer😊
I really like the Mandala yarn, I wish they would come out with a #4 and a more tonal colorway, same texture as Mandala.

Summer, I am so, so glad I found you and your channel! I know I said this before, but you're great! I've not crocheted in quite a while. You know...work, raising wonderful kids and then I got sick...😵wawawaaaa. 😂🤣 God's showing me what's important in life and how we all need to slow down. Sooooo, I picked up my hooks, started hoarding yarn and found YojTube and you and some others. But your my favourite!! I would love to make a batch of oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies with you and just really get to know all about you. You are the friendliest soul. You're just precious!! Thanks so much for talking about yarn cakes. I feel so much more knowledgeable. The first comment I made I told you about Willowyarn.com I've got my first order ready, I think! Every time I think I'm done I find something else that I think I cant live without. Lol! Happy crafting and thank you so much for being here for us. I thank you for me, that's for sure!!
Now, on with catching uP on watching ALL the rest of your videos. God bless❤🙏🏻

Thanks for all the great information.. It was interesting..
The only. “Cake” I have use is the LB Mandala cakes, and I love them.. I feel that the color changes are pretty much gradual.,, and most of the time, I am OK with how the changes work out.. There is always the option to do a little color control..if you want to, but I usually enjoy how my changes look.
Just bought a Bernat Cake..My first, just to see if I would like it.. I do want to try thd Caron Cake..
Color is my big thing....whether I am knitting, crocheting, or quilting.. I think color is the most important element in any project..It is what will draw you in..
So..I love that these various cakes come in so many cool color combos.. it is do much fun to watch the colors begun to change..
Thanks for a great video.. I am always happy to see you pop up on my screen.👍
Edited to add... October 16, 2018... I just completed my first shawl using a Caron Cake, and I want to say that I absolutely loved working with this yarn. The added wool, gives it a certain feel that I find very nice... I will definitely be buying more Caron Cakes!
Sometimes I control color changes, but bit always,, .. it all depends on how well the new color blends in with the old one... I like the way Mandala cakes tend to fade from one color to the next.
These cakes are to the knitting and crocheting world, what pre-cuts are to quilters... In fact, quilting probably influenced the yarn manufacturers when they decided to produce the multicolored cakes... They are a quick and easy way to get to the fun of creating... and I love it...

Hi Summer! I loved this video on CAKES. Something I actually enjoy about some of the cakes is those funny little odd color variations or a fleck of a different color. (What you talked about at the end.) Anomalies are fun and show a bit of non-perfection that is just friendly. I was interested in your idea about cutting apart the separate colors for some projects. You are so fun to watch and (I think I have said it before) I love your genuinness (funny word, but true) and sincerity. Keep up the great work.

Worsted weight is typically a size 4 medium weight yarn. 😊

I love your videos. Just wanted to share with you that Bernat, Caron, Patons, and Peaches-n-cream are all owned by the same company. Premier and LionBrand are the same company too.

Good info. I thought maybe Bernat and Caron were together. But I was surprised about premier and lion.

Those who don't like abrupt colour changes should use a gradient yarn rather than a striping yarn. Most of these "cakes" are striping yarns.

Great video.. I love the pretty cakes! Have only used the Mandala, though.. was upset when I first realized Mandala is a three..because I typically use a worsted Wright..except for baby things..
However..I’m used to the weight now, snd love this yarn. I think Lion Brand does color right.. I use Mandala in both knitting and crochet projects.
I am currently crocheting my first shawl with Mandala Gnome, and love it. I am doing a Granny Triangular Shawl.? It is so much fun.. It definitely makes me happy.
I am using Mandala Baby to knit a diagonal baby blanket, snd that, too, is fun..

I just love the mandala cakes. I am making another adirondack wrap now with some mandala!

Great video... I LOVE. The “cakes”.. I’ve been using Mandala for shawls and wraps... I’m planning to use a Caron Cake for a requested shawl for a great niece,,
I find the cakes to be to knitting and crocheting what pre-cuts are to quilters... A wonderful shirt cut to the fun part,
Color changes,, Sometimes I, too do a little color control, but nit always.. Ut depends on the colors involved, and just where I am in the project. Most of the time Mandala colors sort of blend in pretty well (but nit always). What I do about it just depends.. it is often fun to just let the changes I. Ur naturally, and ut looks “right”.
    Love your videos, ..
