    There are so many clays out there and even if it's the "wrong" clay you are clearly such a pro sculptor to make something amazing with it. I'm in awe!

    Instead of the microwave, (Though I have used it when heating my Monster Clay for the first time) I have heated my clay with a slow-cook electric crockpot, which keeps the clay in liquid form. But, I purchased 2 pounds of Chavant Extra-Hard Monu-melt sculpting clay and I am going to try heating the clay with my heat gun (on low and high heat modes).

    Amazing sculpt - it did look like the Ice Cream Man, but almost like a more cartoony style of him.
    The texture on that clay looked interesting. I’m guessing you couldn’t get a very smooth finish on it? That could be fun to play with!

    Hullo Anthony, great demonstration! I am curious about the curing time? DO you need to cook to cure? how hot does it have to be? Is it like air dry clays? I was looking to see how it would take paint too. Will you show a finished piece on IG or do another quick video or even a full length? Great sculpting as ever Sir!

    • @varedis267
      @varedis267 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chavant doesn't cure, it hardens by cooling, but it will never fully set, you can instantly harden a piece by hitting it with freeze spray, similarly you can reheat that frozen piece to make it workable again. Even years later you can just heat a piece to start working it again. If you want to finalize a piece or paint it, you have to make a mould and use something like resin to get the end piece that you can then paint.

  • @maddieadams75

    I'm the opposite of you. I started sculpting in Monster Clay and I've tried to use Sculpy but find it extremely hard to work with. I'll always end up smooshing it. I prefer something harder that I can basically carve on and don't have to worry about damaging anything I accidentally touch.
    You don't necessarily need a microwave though. I use a heat gun to "spot soften" the areas I need to work on. And smooth it after by brushing on some Naphtha. Some of those tools work okay on polymer but they tend pull the clay like pizza cheese.

    what's your experience microwaving just to soften it? hadn't seen that before. Google seems very against it but I assume it's referring to fully baking it, but just to soften it does it work well for you? is it something you typically do?

    Hi ace of clay, I enjoy your sculpting video's and I understand the whole not talking while sculpting. Because when ever I was sculpting I would be like in the zone. Also I've been trying to get back into sculpting but I just can't find the space in my house, If you can help me get some ideas on how to make or find space/room to start sculpting again? That would be great!

    The temperature of the clay is not important if you're not too lazy to condition it😎 I recall my art school childhood when we had to work mostly with extra-firm sulfur clay, and there was no microwave or any other "cheating" facilities, only our little hands and persistence💪🏼 hard times, good times...

  • @iknownothing-49

    Really fun to watch. I think that chavant never hardens. Boohoo.😪
    I’d love to see you do some work with a translucent polymer clay. It would need to be baked longer but it can be pretty see through.

    How about trying different hardware clays like this, if any, or mouldable things? I also love the fact Ace is wearing what looks like a hell bunny t-shirt with Winstons in the background. (Google says it's "psycho bunny" but i've never heard of it but the logos are similar hence why I thought it was "hell bunny")

    Don't you know not to take clay from strangers??? I KID. I've never heard of this clay before but I think I used one similar for making mold boxes. They have a really large line of different clays, really neat! Really neat to see how you use it and the tools!

    So, does this clay harden and air dry? Or would this be a type of clay to use for making latex masks? Molds?

    • @GrayskullPrime
      @GrayskullPrime ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not familiar with the Fill It version but Chavant doesn't harden permanently. It'll get hard when cooled and soft when heated. Though I have seen some people paint it, I'm not sure how well that holds up over time. It's good for molds.

    I work for the company which makes chavant clay and let me tell you, I am extremely annoyed that they gave you fill-it!
    We have so many clays meant for sculpting, made specifically to be softened with heat, different colors and hardnesses, sulfur and non-sulfur.
    And they give you fill-it?! Unbelievable thats what that is, I hope you get the chance to work with some of our real sculpting clays sometime, instead of that stuff.
