@@HappyBob701 We love Smith Rowe, but logically it was the right decision. He has too much competition at Arsenal and he was constantly injured. Fulham takes a lot of that off his shoulders and will allow him to shine.
Double pivot of rice and jorginho. Martinelli on right wing, saka at advanced 10 and trossard on the left. Sakas balls into feet are quite good, doesnt ever lose the ball, perfect for 10 and also gets him more shots from central areas. Martinelli moving to right means gvardiol is kept in check.
Arteta needs to give Nwaneri a run of starts. Just such a tough schedule of games to do it in. I get the sense that Arteta is worried about destroying the kid's confidence if the games don't go our way
He’s an inexperienced kid man don’t buy into these Twitter trolls, nwaneri can’t be thrown into the deep end against city at the etihad, or spurs away. There’s many more factors than just playing football, has he dealt with pressure? The atmosphere? All these things can play into your mind in a match. Too much for a 17 year old. Mikel didn’t start him because he knows, trust me nothing will destroy the confidence of a kid faster than when he has a bad game
Nwnari should play even for 20 minutes. This is the opportunity to push him through. Age is no issue if indeed he is a good player as they all say, arteta included
They have to give Nwaneri more of an opportunity in these few months without Odegaard. Obviously it isn't realistic to expect him to be consistently starting, but if they can give him minutes and help him develop now then they could have a closer backup for Odegaard than any of the other players in the squad
Tell me if I’m an idiot. We should start Calafiori at LB, Timber should replace Partey (who’s looked lost) in the midfield, Rice and califiori both driving with from the left hand side of the pitch against Rico Lewis with Martinelli in behind could be absolutely devastating.

Becoming so dependent on Odegaard's brilliance is a major weakness for Arsenal; not managing to cultivate, or keep, anyone who could be at least a short-term deputy for him has been an even greater one. Letting Smith Rowe and Viera go this summer was a disaster. I think Saka has the skills and game intelligence to maybe grow into a more Odegaard-like role - but, oh wait, they let Reiss Nelson go as well, so they have no cover on the right-wing either. Arsenal had a perilously thin squad last year, and it's even weaker now.

@@sheikhahmadtijangaye289barca we’re very dependant on Messi. The whole system was built around him, trust me. He was a freak of nature that was rarely injured
i find it very heartening that we are playing this way. it will serve us well in the future that we have been forced to evolve a viable plan B. I think we are injury proof now in a way that we were not a year and two years ago
Arsenal need to evolve without Odegaard, if we cannot do without him and win games, we are not ready to be a complete XI, city without KDB do suffer sometimes but they still win regardless. we cannot afford to be a one man team and besides odegaard isn't messi esque tbh.
Ur correct. But arsenal still are very solid and haven’t lost without odegaard. Also take into account we are having a very hard string of games Atalanta are literally European champions, spurs away was very tough too, and now we go to city. Probably the hardest string of games we will have all season already in September
Odegaard is one of those few players that has an impact both offencively and defensively. He is our most creative player with his passing .he can cut our opponents apart at any time. Defencively, he is the leader of our high press. You can see that we we are defending further back than when Odegaard is in the lineup. This will and is bring more pressure on our defenders and our CDM Partey, who right now is a shadow of his former self. This next 8 weeks or more is going to be the acid test for Arteta. It is up to him to change our tactics to something that the payers we have can use to win games. For me, right now, the biggest concern is the CDM position. Partey and Jorginho are just too old to give us what we need. That was our biggest need for the summer window , not a striker. We have nothing if these 2 fail. We lost the midfield battle to many times this season already. I really fear what will happen against City on Sunday. Yes, they might have list KDB, but they have Foden to fill in . Who do we have to replace Odegaard, no one. Our summer window was a bust as we got rid of more p l ayers than we brought in again, leaving us with a too small of a squad again.
One thing worth noticing is that the majority of Rice and Havertz’ passes in the back 5:12 are going toward Gabriel and Timber. Only one or two balls toward Saliba and the right side where we are noticeably more potent. Also no progressive passes to the left wing from Rice or Havertz like you see on the right to Saka. Definitely forces by Atalanta.
Playing Ø and Saka to death, even in dead rubbers means that no backup is ready to step in. ESR was the natural backup (and backup it was) , but couldn't get half an hour even when many goals up. Zinchenko is the next in line atm
I'll happily watch Arteta replicate the most disgusting, shithouse, Euros Southgate Terrorball known to mankind if it meant a 0-0 draw. We're fucked without Odegaard.
I think Calafiori should get a shot at defensive mid for City, replacing Thomas Partey. Partey previously had the ability to move the ball up field combined with some neat technical skills to get away from his marker but those days look far gone for him. Calafiori looks to have a similar skillset and could offer us a more reliable option.
trossard has looked incisive but i think there is a lack of confidence in the team to play forward passes through the middle as you suggested. The forward pass opportunity is missed, the ball gets recycled back to raya, the press(ure) has to be beaten again either through high risk out-the-back play or the low percentage long ball. I'm sure arteta is reminding them to "be brave" because that's what is required to pay high intensity incisive progressive passing as we saw from arsenal last season
The way that Odegaars takes the ball in front of defenders, then with one touch hes broken the lines, is so underrated. I remember when people moaned when we signed him but within 1 season he showed why hes so integral to us. Hopefully we struggle through til hes back, nicking wins and then when hes back we ramp up and destroy teams!
A major criticism of Arteta is how he doesn't rest players. Saka and Odegaard are being run into the ground. Its not a good argument to say they can't buy a player to sit on the bench. That bench player would be used more if Arteta rotated more.
i know he’s not as great of a passer as odegaard, but i’d be interested to see jesus in that role. allowing havertz his free striker role and jesus breaking lines by taking players on instead of passing
Knew we should've gone all in for Gyokeres! While I respect there's still confidence in the squad, if a clinical chance taker had started that game instead of Martinelli (as much as I like him), we'd have won that game 2:0. I can only hope they learn enough from that to go hard and make it happen in the January window.
I think Arsenal are suffering the most from that left hand side being so weak going forward. Trossard is a game changer but he hasnt been as consistent while starting games maybe coz of his stamina while Martinelli is just a shell of himself. We need consistent chance creators from both flanks because all we have now for that is Odegaard and Saka and the former is gone for a while. One thing that made us unpredictable in 22/23 was that both flanks were just as good as each other. If that left side was firing I dont think there would be much talk about Odegaard being missed
I would move Saka in to the role, great close control and vision, put Sterling out wide for Man City. Something "Wild" but seen worse with him at Left back for England a few months back
They played good tactically and especially defensively (as an italian i was actually surprised as i was wathcing the game, it is the first time in a long time i see a big team outside of Italy defend that good in unison ) but they did deserve to lose that game, even if not by a huge margin.
I tend to agree. Perhaps the more specific question is - can Arteta make the adjustments to still win games without Odegaard before we drop too many points to stay in the title race?
Trossard is going to that Odegaard role but on the left. The only problem is, they don’t have the same combinations on that left side of White Odegaard and Saka.
oh odegaard it's awfully hard, to face this day alone. Your chirpy face We can't replace. Your blonde hair we miss today. As an arsenal fan I see no plan, I'm really quite bereft Merino's shoulder's another boulder that thwarts our half space left. Life is nice with Declan Rice and Kai is superfly But we contemplate our number 8, Our Captain and main guy.
I believe this injury will benefit Arsenal more than people think....? I believe that Arsenal will play 4-2-3-1 formation with rice and party in the double privet and Martinelli in the 10 position and sterling on the left or vise-viser
Nwnari should play even for 20 minutes. This is the opportunity to push him through. Age is no issue if indeed he is a good player as they all say, arteta included
Man I wish we'd gone in for Frenkie De Jong while the situation at Barcelona was still chaotic. It's starting to stabilize now and I doubt he'll want to leave just to play second fiddle. Though I have no idea of how he'd do in a high press, he definitely has that ability to take the ball in tight spaces and turn and move it forward.
@@TheKh65 Don't put the blame of a poor environment on the player. Kai Havertz was the worst signing last season...... Great Managers judge players by their ability not performance.
Arsenal have 1 position which is absolutely essential to their style of play. So you might think that they would have a backup if the player in that position got serioiusly injured. So what do they do? Get rid of the two players, Smith-Rowe and Veiria, who could have deputised for Odegaard. They have deputies for the goalkeeper, full backs, cenrebacks, defensive midfield, centre forward, wingers, but not an attacking creative number 8. Not too clever of Arteta.

Our defence is keeping us alive and set pieces and corners are our only hope in big games.
The irony he got injured playing for the national team
I never took Ø for granted, for the past year I've been posting that arteta should bring a player that does something similar to what Ø does. Even barring an injury, he'd be invaluable for squad rotation to keep ode fresh. I also really wanted us to get Fabian Ruiz in place of merino. I'm all for large athletic players like declan but we also need a wealth of midfield technicians so that one vital player's injury doesn't completely change our gameplay.
Thanks, Adam, for another great explanation of why Odegaard is so vital to the style of football Arsenal play.
Thank you, Adam. Always such a pleasure to watch your analysis.
Since odegaard is out, i feel calafiori's ability to turn and drive with the ball would be very profitable. There was a moment against Atalanta where he was able to beat 2 defenders in the left half space using good body movement
@@hrlum9862 He did a superb job against Man City at Etihad and in other games too. But when we need to play a low block during a period in a match, no one will drive anything during that period 😂
Nah, he just looks like a defender on a mad run
Brilliant analysis as usual. Thanks mate. Keep em coming.
I was at this game, while it was an interesting game and were incredibly defensively solid it is clear that ø is our most important player
I like the way you just used the letter ø
It’s like he’s known by a symbol, like the Saint
**Manifesting a 442 Gravenberch video**
Always interesting content from the internet's best John Richardson impersonator
It’s fun to watch defensive greatness as well.
this video was top notch. Nice job!!
Would playing Zinchenko as replacement for Odegaard work ? He is very good on the ball going forward and would help in organizing the press too
Never understood why this tactic isn't practiced. Most of them have skills and ability to play in other positions, but managers keep them in regular obvious roles. I think Zin would be excellent as a midfielder, but maybe it's down to the individual's preference.
Smith-Rowe was the player to do it but you clowns sold him
@@HappyBob701 We love Smith Rowe, but logically it was the right decision. He has too much competition at Arsenal and he was constantly injured. Fulham takes a lot of that off his shoulders and will allow him to shine.
@@HappyBob701 yeah and alexis sanchez would have been great on our left wing, why did we have to sell him ??? 🙄🙄🙄 I live in the present buddy
hes injured also
Double pivot of rice and jorginho.
The singing we needed during the summer and didn;t make was a backup to odegaard.
Who could it be
no one is that good. I can literally only think of musiala who plays like that. U think we get musiala?
They have to give Nwaneri more of an opportunity in these few months without Odegaard. Obviously it isn't realistic to expect him to be consistently starting, but if they can give him minutes and help him develop now then they could have a closer backup for Odegaard than any of the other players in the squad
Clery-esque. I love it
Tell me if I’m an idiot. We should start Calafiori at LB, Timber should replace Partey (who’s looked lost) in the midfield, Rice and califiori both driving with from the left hand side of the pitch against Rico Lewis with Martinelli in behind could be absolutely devastating.
This might be the play
Anyone who feels the need to crit or crap on a team manager or player should do so after Clery has analyzed them. Good job man u made me a fan 4 life ps COYG
Arsenal had a perilously thin squad last year, and it's even weaker now.
were barca dependent on messi? is city dependent on haaland?
😂😂 Barca had busqeut, xavi & inesta.. for man city Haaland is a tap in merchant use a better example.. with likes of rodri, kdb.. city without rodri drops same with kdb
@@sheikhahmadtijangaye289 Very true.
Odegaard Merino and Zinchenko all injured at the same time who are midfield options
Arsenal fan here, I’m nervous for the match against city, but if we play the same way we did in the NLD I think we’ll be fine.
Another brilliant analysis 😊
We should of kept ESR for when Odegaard is out...
What is most unfortunate is Zincheko's injured too. If he can get back on time, he'll play the Odegaard role. People keep on forgetting Zinny
I suspect Arteta wanted us to play like this again to practice for Man City.
We need to play the ball more direct from defense to the front three now.
trossard has looked incisive but i think there is a lack of confidence in the team to play forward passes through the middle as you suggested.
Anything bad performances happen to Arsenal I am blaming Arteta and Edu for their ignorance not to add up properly to our Squad
The fact we sold ESR hurts that much more, we sold the one substitute for Martin, and you could almost smell this happening when we did…..
A major criticism of Arteta is how he doesn't rest players. Saka and Odegaard are being run into the ground. Its not a good argument to say they can't buy a player to sit on the bench. That bench player would be used more if Arteta rotated more.
We had Emile smith rowe. HAD 😢
I love the fact that people are mad we are not losing inspite of not having Odegard and the lack of a striker.
i know he’s not as great of a passer as odegaard, but i’d be interested to see jesus in that role. allowing havertz his free striker role and jesus breaking lines by taking players on instead of passing
We are progressing year on year in games vs City/Liverpool.... we will eventually win these encounters.
oh odegaard
it's awfully hard, to face this day alone.
Your chirpy face
We can't replace.
Your blonde hair we miss today.
As an arsenal fan I see no plan, I'm really quite bereft
Merino's shoulder's another boulder that thwarts our half space left.
Life is nice with Declan Rice and Kai is superfly
But we contemplate our number 8,
Our Captain and main guy.
I believe this injury will benefit Arsenal more than people think....? I believe that Arsenal will play 4-2-3-1 formation with rice and party in the double privet and Martinelli in the 10 position and sterling on the left or vise-viser
Cliche: Odegaard is the conductor of the Arsenal orchestra. And a real maestro!
Which is why the bottlers have won nothing since the Real Madrid reject Missing "Won Nothing" Ghostagaard joined your small club 😅
FDJ playing second fiddle to ?? Ødegaard ?? 😂
He's twice the player Ødegaard is.

Martinelli has really lost his spark. Can't belive he didn't score that 😢
I’d be fairly confident about beating Man City, but that confidence is dented due to not having Ødegaard.
Great. Now Pep will see this.
The style of play that's won you nothing for 4 years running 😅
I hope he will recover soon
Atalanta makes everyone look sloppy as the man to man system is not very common nowadays and makes football more about phisicality than about skills.
Ateata needs to trust nwaneri with this role
Arteta didn't lie when he said 'we have to go to a level when in our bad day we're good enough to win'

Odegard we need you x3000
Rice and Timber and Martinelli are all right footed so they all want to take it inside. You need a left footer there for balance in the attack. Combine that with a midfield saturated with defensive minded midfielders that aren't comfortable holding the ball and just want to release it. Not a fun watch
Sloppy passing was tbe issue. The touches were awful😅 Nullified the Atlanta press though but the attack needs to click

Awful decision to play Havertz who isn't known for stamina or flare in the middle of the park. Partey would have been a better option and probably Timber at CDM.
Where is Merino? He seems like the perfect replacement.
