This whole joke is pretty bad, but the killing Simpsons part could have actually been made somewhat funny and excused it not being animated. You hear Maggie's pacifier, the pause, and then the gunshot. There should have been another pause, and then you hear the pacifier again. This would imply that Maggie shot Quagmire.
Seth MacFarlane says he wanted to take a shot at The Simpsons because The Simpsons have done it to Family Guy "like five times." The fact that this is his idea of getting back at them is kind of a perfect metaphor for the difference between Simpsons humor and Family Guy humor. The Simpsons' critiques of Family Guy tended to be pretty subtle and quick, but clever. Whereas Family Guy's response is low brow and crude, and they expect the audience to laugh just at the fact that a reference is being made (in a clunky and needlessly drawn out way).

Given that episode where she saved Marge from the mafia gangs by shooting from the window, this would be 100% Simpsons lore accurate. Maggie could easily solo most of the Family Guy crew tbh.

It's funny because years later they try pulling these kinds of jabs on Bob's Burgers until only recently where they had to begrudgingly admit that Bob's was the better show, while Bob's barely acknowledged Family Guy's existence. Now look what happened: Bob's is still on Sunday night, and Family has been relegated to WEDNESDAY FUCKING NIGHT.
Something that put Family Guy’s pettiness into perspective for me is when I saw a compilation of Family Guy references in the Simpsons, which was like two or three minutes long. Around what you’d expect since it’s so brief and to the point. Then I got recommended a compilation of Simpsons references in Family Guy, which was more like ten minutes long. That means for every jab the Simpsons took, Family Guy takes around five back.
They did the same thing with Bob's Burgers. Constantly undermining the show and then kinda acting bitter when they didn't win any awards but Bobs Burgers did. Seth only exists because Fox was the only network who agreed to broadcast "Family Guy" back in the day. The Simpsons are always making fun of Fox but Seth is vitriolic, he has practically daddy issues against a TV network lol
Instead of Glenn, you could have had Joe roll up and run over Marge's foot. He tries to apologize, but then Homer shows up and they fight. But then, midway through they look at the camera and realize they're still in an ad and try to act chummy, Homer especially because he was just attacking a man in a wheelchair.
The funny part about it is the fact that the thud at the very end is too loud to be a baby, and since Maggie is an excellent marksman we know she won't miss

It would have been funnier if after Quagmire chases Marge off screen, then Quagmire comes right back running for dear life with an angry Homer chasing him in his car. Then later in the episode they could have continued it, on one of the outside shots of Jillian's apartment, they could have had Quagmire run across the screen still being chased by Homer with Quagmire going "Oh god oh god oh god!"
@@athf4ever780 I was also thinking that they could have finished the gag during the credits where Homer chases Quagmire to Springfield where as revenge he sets him up on a blind date with Patty and Selma…
Nothing saves this joke in my opinion. Because Marge would NOT enjoy any of it. She's not that kind of person AT ALL. I wish it went like this: • Quagmire chases Marge across the screen both ways • after a few laps we instead see Homer chasing Quagmire with some kind of blunt melee weapon (possibly on a chain) End joke MAYBE it could continue with homer walking back across with a bloody weapon.

Honestly, I felt like they should have just ended the joke with Quagmire dragging Marge off-screen. It was kind of a funny idea, making it look like an ad being placed in the middle of the show only for it to be a skit, but it went on way too long, even for modern FG standards. Then dragging it out even further to have Quagmire kill the entire family, it's the usual 'Hm, this joke might not be funny enough. Let's add to it. That'll instantly make it funnier.'
Yeah, like, imagine if the waveing Marge was just a flat gif that quagmire picks up looks around suspiciously, then sneaks off screen then like later in the episode it cuts to quagmire in his bed smoking with the waveing Marge gif. Like that's way funnier in concept than just "what if Marge gets raped." TLDR: There are better ways to do this joke.
@@CutWatfamily guy does a lot of gags where the joke is a person gets murdered and gore. not saying its good just saying its not off brand for them to have a scene of homer killing glenn and dragging his body away leaving a trail of blood
What i find so weird about Family guy is that they have very edgy rape and abuse jokes and yet they still have the audacity to have some episodes when they are like "Omg abuse is such a serious topic and we should take it seriously, shame on you viewer!" (Like that one with Quagmire's Sister, or that where Peter's Boss sexually harasses him and no one believes him since he is a guy) Like, how Im suposed to take seriously Peter being harrased, when the whole show has at leats 10 minutes of solid rape jokes involving him? Like, if you are going to be edgy, be consistent
What's even funnier is that Seth tries to give some moral lessons to his audience regarding current societal subjects in his Star Trek knock-off series The Orville, and it just shows how untalented he truly is. I mean, he has done an episode that talks about trans people, and his take on the subject is so bafflingly stupidly done that it conveys the complete opposite of what he was trying to express.
Have you ever thought about how weird it is that whenever somebody mentions Alvin the chipmunk, they say "Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks" instead of just "Alvin the chipmunk?"
I'm way less sensitive to this kind of overly edgy humor than most, but there is a very thick line and they lept over it like a graceful drunken gazelle and breaks its legs on the landing. It's insane to imagine of group of adults writing, storyboarding, and animating this and the only person to speak up doesn't mention how tasteless and extreme it is, the only feedback is 'we don't want anymore Simpsons jokes.' There isn't a single layer where the bit works. It's boring and doesn't even do a good job at shocking the viewer. Every time I'm reminded this exists it blows my mind.
One of the most popular shows right now in mainstream media is The Boys. The show and its source material are the definition of tasteless and extreme. Nobody is thinking at all whenever slop like this is put out, only on gaining traction due to shock and, sadly, it works.
I think the joke isn't funny because 1. The topic isn't funny and is uncomfortable in the first half 2. The second half is shit like those bad edgy 2000s animations where dark thing happen in thing where it would not happen laugh, just not funny and annoying 3. It fells like seth is a baby who couldn't handle the plagiarism joke so had to get back at them in a 0 to 100 level """joke""" to """win the feud""" 2 years later
Seth: why can't I make fun of them they've made fun of me Fox: Seth their biggest jab at you was putting Peter in a wanted poster for plagiarism, you on the other hand, had one of your worst character's r*pe Marge had her enjoy it to the point she was ok with cheating, already messed up as it is and then proceed to kill the entire family INCLUDING A BABY!!!
They wrote Marge like almost like Lois Griffin, a person who would have cheated with Quagmire if the plot needed her but somehow act like she wouldn't even though she has a catalog of infidelity jokes and has cheated before.
Honestly Marge's characterization not being consistent is entirely to blame on her bending to the plot's punch / jokes too much, It's because her reserved personality didn't make her commitment to Homer seem that strong when. I'm sure old seasons Marge would just never, no more than maybe a hint of a doubt but easily shaken off. I'm quite sad the writters felt they could do away with the cement of their relationship and make entire episodes around that instead of using side characters since Homer had been done already...
Seth's logic here is a bit extreme. The Simpsons put Peter and Stan on a wanted poster and made a plagiarism joke. So his response is a r*pe/murder joke. Now i prefer Family Guy to the Simpsons, but that's a bit of an extreme response. As much as i do for the most part like Seth he doesn't take criticism or harmless jokes very well. As others have said i think the joke would have been funnier had it just shown Quagmire chasing Marge off-screen, and cut the whole murdering the whole family thing. It just seems like a bit of an over-reaction to such a tiny joke. Especially when you consider that South Park made a two-parter story specifically tearing Family Guy apart. Yet outside of Seth calling Matt and Trey assholes, Family Guy never made a joke on the show about South Park on the show. And i'd argue Matt and Trey's take on Family Guy was far more mean spirited than anything The Simpsons did. Like Matt and Trey don't seem to have a single kind word to say about Family Guy from what i've seen, so how the Family Guy staff have never made jabs at their expense is beyond me.
They had a jab at Matt and Trey but Seth cut it out since he thought it was weak, and it was, it had them at anal point having anal sex, this a joke they would make about themselves.
I am pretty sure making a joke about calling you a copycat and making a skit about assaulting the main character's wife and killing the entire family is a tad different
The scenario of seth not understanding that it wasn't that they were making a gag on the Simpsons that caused fox to step in but him making a crazy ass rape/ family murder joke of the Simpsons, will always be funny
I wonder how Seth feels about this joke now that so much time has passed? You think he matured and realized how low this was even by Family Guy standards?
I like Seth, but he was 1000% in the wrong for that joke. and the fact that he had the nerve to try and defend it AND get mad about it in a commentary track is a little disturbing
Feel like the biggest problem with the joke is just that it has nothing to do with the Simpsons. There’s nothing about The Simpsons being poked fun at or called out here, they’re just burning the Simpsons in effigy. The family could’ve been replaced with anyone else and the joke would’ve been exactly the same.
@Lou-yf1jo Elaborate. Edit: You're a ragebaiter spam commenter, there's nothing to be gained from conversation. You responded to a comment quote "If You replaced every p with a k, the why didnt You said simksons?(sic)" and you only replied "Wrong." You're either certified rock intelligence, or there's only circuitry behind your keyboard-typing hands.
Could have been way funnier and way less tasteless if Quagmire had just charmed Marge instead and then the cut-away was a joke about how many times The Simpsons uses tests of faith/looming divorce as a plot point. :P
The fact that Seth thought both gags were equally personal really shows how some people simply don't just have higher tolerances for offensive content. Some people simply do not perceive how something so obviously offensive can be upsetting in the first place.
The fact that FOX tried to approach it without saying "Seth, you CAN'T joke about that" but he was too up his own ass to understand. He's so full of himself and has the humor of a stunted high schooler.
I don’t even think Family Guy is funny. They aren’t justifying it, they’re pointing out how dumb this video is. The joke isn’t the rape, the humor comes from the unexpectedness of it. Rape is shocking. The normal Simpson ad of that time being suddenly interrupted with something shocking is the joke. I know you’re 15 and probably watched this through streaming like everything else or not at all, but you’re missing a joke and judging it while not understanding it at all, same as the video. You’re just salty it flew over your head I think

Usually when Family Guy airs in the UK, it gets trimmed down because the episodes are too long. A joke gets removed, dialogue removes a sentence, etc. In this case, I recall that scene being cut entirely. I thought it was a deleted scene for a long time because I had only ever seen it in compilations.
It was cut entirely here in the US as well: this scene only aired on adult swim. Now you can only see it through dvd since adult swim lost their contract for family guy.
Still though, Quagmire actually stopping to consider before shooting Maggie is the only genuinely funny part-- if you have to have something like this, you want it to end with SOME humor, and it does.
There is only one thing that offends the Family Guy Manatees more than comparing their work to the Simpsons. Edit: Wow, hearing MacFarlane get butthurt over fox trying to pull the rake joke really pissed me off. They make fun of everyone? Seemed more like complaining on a talk show when South Park came for them.
The joke of everyone walking in the room single file to get killed is the part I admittedly laughed at. Especially with the bad impressions like Bart...
Not gonna lie, I never had that much problem with the joke, despite how edgy could have been... But Seth Comments only make it seem like he did it because he was really, really, really salty with the Simpsons, It's explanation just sounds like the same dumb excuse he used to explain why they killed off Brian and then made him come back like 2 episodes later as a cheap way to create controversy and get more views
Imo the joke didn’t go “too far”, but it also just plain fell flat. It seemed like they were trying to flex how dark they could get but they didn’t add a solid or strong punchline to it
The fact Seth didn't even consider that the shit joke he wrote was just not funny shows how low his level of sense of humour is and how big his ego is. Personally, I think any topic should be joked about, but Seth McFarlane is incapable of making anything funny

Not to mention the fact Bob's Burgers also got a movie that was made with love just like the Simpsons and Family Guy has yet to have done that. The fact that Seth thought both gags were equally personal really shows how some people simply don't just have higher tolerances for offensive content. Some people simply do not perceive how something so obviously offensive can be upsetting in the first place.
Wrong.
@@Lou-yf1joNah, get outta here. You've got no defence, whatsoever.
As a victim of r*** and dv, this "joke" was just too much way before the "part 2" and should have stopped after they went off screen
The fact that FOX tried to approach it without saying "Seth, you CAN'T joke about that" but he was too up his own ass to understand.
He's so full of himself and has the humor of a stunted high schooler.
14 year old family guy fans trying to justify the laziest most dumb joke
I don’t even think Family Guy is funny. They aren’t justifying it, they’re pointing out how dumb this video is. The joke isn’t the rape, the humor comes from the unexpectedness of it. Rape is shocking. The normal Simpson ad of that time being suddenly interrupted with something shocking is the joke. I know you’re 15 and probably watched this through streaming like everything else or not at all, but you’re missing a joke and judging it while not understanding it at all, same as the video. You’re just salty it flew over your head I think
Yeah, I ain't gonna lie to you when I was about 14 or 15 seeing the little pop up and the quagmire come out of nowhere, and smear her was pretty damn funny. Never in a million years did I expect that to happen.
they're mostly in their 40s tbh
@@oldyladok then explain why quagmire shooting a baby is funny
@@nisor123 lol it's just a dumb tv show, no babies were shot and no women were assaulted in the real world during the making of this bit. People really will get outraged over anything these days.
The funniest thing about this joke is if you imagine that final gunshot is Maggie shooting Quagmire
Wrong.
This is like someone putting a "Kick Me" sign on your back and you respond by putting an actual dead dog in their mailbox.
Still though, Quagmire actually stopping to consider before shooting Maggie is the only genuinely funny part-- if you have to have something like this, you want it to end with SOME humor, and it does.
Yeah I found that part hilarious

Wrong.
“How is this any different to a wanted poster of Peter saying plagiarist?”
Wrong.
Imo the joke didn’t go “too far”, but it also just plain fell flat. It seemed like they were trying to flex how dark they could get but they didn’t add a solid or strong punchline to it
So like most family guy jokes?
Yup,thats most family guy
No punchline, just "look guys we have gore in our cartoon"
Wrong.
The fact Seth didn't even consider that the shit joke he wrote was just not funny shows how low his level of sense of humour is and how big his ego is. Personally, I think any topic should be joked about, but Seth McFarlane is incapable of making anything funny
that's most comedians. "You don't find my joke funny? My joke is perfect so clearly there's something wrong with the audience"

Seth mcfarlane is just a dumber version of Justin Roiland's writting, innapropiate jokes that go for way too long and thinks he is the smartest person in the room for being edgy
@@LaloSalamancaGaming69 agreed, Roiland's comedy style doesn't always land, but manages to be funny most of the time for his spontaneous delivery, Family Guy is just boring to watch.
When I saw the episode, I was like: "wuh oh Quagmire is being silly again!"
This is like still having a grudge against your 5th grade bully for calling you a poopyhead long after adulthood
It was a terrible terrible unfunny edge lord joke
The first time I saw the joke I was too young to understand it. As an adult... jeez...
Kind of the same. My younger brain realized the murder part was messed up and thought that was the controversy. I thought of the first leg as a regular sex joke not a grape joke.
Wrong.
I’m a little surprised Seth couldn’t see how his joke was slightly different than the ones the Simpsons had been making 😂
Wrong.
This reminds me of another terrible cut Family Guy gag about another adult cartoon, the one where they imply Trey Parker and Matt Stone are having sex. Shows like Simpsons and South Park take shots at actual flaws of Family Guy, and Family Guy's response is not only edgy bullshit but also edgy bullshit that's an ad hominen.
Seth cut it though, he said it was weak
@Bolbi145 if that was really the only response he could think of to them making fun of FG's bad writing, and he couldn't come up with anything better, it kinda proves their point.
@@timthememer2785 cutaways aren’t necessarily bad writing, some of the series’ best jokes are cutaways: The Dick Cheney hunting joke, the Timer the Cheese Guy Joke, the Caveman couple argument, etc.
Imagine if Sega decided to get back at DCK2's Sonic's sneakers next to a trash can with No Hopers written joke by having an easter egg in Sonic 3D Blast where Knuckles rakes Peach & then kills Mario, her, Yoshi, Link, & Diddy. Or if instead of going with the trash can Funky just raked Amy & Killed Sonic, her, Knuckles, Tails, & Earth Worm Jim instead of going with the trashcan.
(Although Sega really should have had a trash can with banana peels Dk's tie & Diddy's hat with No Worthers written in a game.)

I don’t know what you’re talking about, that Maggie impression was spot on, all the other impressions were phoned in but Maggie was absolute perfection.
I honestly think this would've been funny if Glenn jumped Marge and then after a bit of struggling she shoots him in the leg and then runs off screen. Her liking it and then being dragged on is just so unfunny

The average person has NO idea what it means to go "too far" in comedy. Their standards are set far too low.
My thoughts exactly, even most people who've been effected by this sort of thing aren't upset by it. It's like watching South Park and getting offended they use slurs, what the fuck were you expecting? Some sort of deep philosophical meaning that changes your outlook on life? IT'S FUCKING FAMILY GUY, IT'S GOING TO BE CRUDE.
