What I Found In This Volcano Is Wild | Unbelievable Ancient Settlement

  • Exploring a landscape reminiscent of Planet Mars, we found many signs of ancient life. These were exciting and mind boggling discoveries. How and why did people live in this desolate and harsh environment? There were signs of homes, defensive walls, hunting camps, pottery, stone tools. Archeologists speculate that ancient people may have lived here after volcanic explosions covered the area in ash that made it easier to grow crops. However, today, this landscape looks very uninhabitable. The only live creature we saw during the whole hike, was a beautiful gopher snake.
    There are many small dwellings across this landscape as well a very large pueblo. In this video, we visit two hilltop rooms that are well preserved and cleverly built using natural formations for defense. #adventure #desertexploration #hiking #explore #ancienthistory #climbing #arizona #amazing #ancientsites #volcano Please, be very respectful if you visit these sites and leave everything in place.

    Another great adventure. I really like your drone work! It just blows my mind that your drone allows you to get those great cinematic shots that would have cost a studio tens of thousands of dollars just 20 years ago. Keep up the Great work!

      Yes, there are many small cave ruins all around there. One big house on top could have been a kiva. Thank you for watching!

    The ancients were in the area when some of the younger volcanoes were erupting. They left then returned and built again in some areas

      Yes, and they used land covered in ash to help crops grow. I even found a pottery sherd on the SP crater.

    What gimbal and mic are you using?

    • @ruinsandridges
      @ruinsandridges  หลายเดือนก่อน

      DJI mic and I don't have an external gimbal, I just use Insta 360 1 RS twin addition with auto stabilization turned on (which sometimes annoyingly turns itself off). Thank you for watching!

    I'm concerned this fine young man wont or feels he shouldnt give out the location of this interesting site, why show or portray that which you dont want exposed / riddle me that one why dont you , its counter intuitive counter productive . IMHO thank you and good luck young man.

      Thank you, sir. These are not very easy places to get to and most people would not be able to climb to them. I am just showing these amazing historical places so that people who cannot hike to them are able to see them and wonder of how people lived here thousands of years ago.

      Most adventurers like this "fine young man" do not disclose the exact locations in order to protect these precious sites.

      I am one of those people who can't get out & about. I'm grateful that you take us along. Your camerawork is excellent. May I ask who accompanies you?

    The sustained wind on top of those lava cones can be exceptionally brutal year round, especially in winter.Those 2 enclosures were built close to the natural wall on top of the ridge top for that very reason, Looks to be more of an extended hunting camp with blinds built and low walls leading to the cliff edges which guide the game to a preferred spot for execution which is usually a box canyon, arroyo or gully with 1 way in, or a grazing animal chased over a cliff and procured that way, a wounded animal can run for miles and miles, a chase to avoid at all costs. I imagine the water source would be somewhere in the vicinity of the rock shelter with all the pottery, After sunset crater blew that area was re occupied and corn grown in certain low spots with the fertile cinder soil, places where water could accumulate from summer monsoon rains as most the people in that area were dry farmers totally dependent on the monsoon rains and good spirits of the people to sustain their crops. Try camping on top of one of those volcanic cones for a few days to see how extreme the elements really are any time of year.Some pretty rugged and resourceful people.. Nice Drone action, keep up the good work.

      Thank you for the detailed comment! Yes it is very rough up there, windy, hot, cold, dry. Maybe seasonal camps for hunting. Big pueblo is within 10 or 15 mile radius, so walking distance of half a day to get to these camps and dwellings. I wonder if hunters lived here and then provided / traded the meat with those living in the main pueblo (city).
