I just bought my first house, the lawn is terrible, my first task was getting rid of the tree stumps and above ground root systems. I couldn't believe how much time it took, how far these roots go! I wish my tree stumps looked like that, my roots strech for 20' or more! I stopped after stump #2. I'm getting a grinder. Good Job though, I know the satisfaction after the thing finally gives way..
I use a manual chain hoist. Dig off stump, cut off the roots and yank chain hoist tied to the next tree, pole, etc. .. Jack make 60% of the work. In extreme cases, we use Tatra 813 8x8 or recovery tank VT-55. Tatra 813 8x8: V12 bi-turbo, 22 liters, 325kW, weight 18 tons empty Tatra. Permanent 8x8 drive.Maximum permissible weight towed 100 tons. VT-55: 40 liters V12, 560kW, weight 41 tons, max power winch 100 t over 2 pulleys. Diesel consumption l/100km 250-1100.
It was satisfying, though it would have been more fun using good tools. A thirsty man dreams of water, I was dreaming of a good size Spud bar (which until moments ago when checking on WikiPediia - I'd have called a 'large crowbar') and an axe! My all-time favorite plant-wrecking was destroying a box-thorn that was in my father's yard. There were a plethora of good tools at hand (including fire), and in a process over a day that caused me hundreds of scratches & gouges, I managed to best it.
@mission762008 "I'm getting a grinder." LOL - can you get me some decent tools as well? I'm not even asking for power tools, just tools that don't break when I use them. Best of luck with the remaining stumps. :-)

Lord...what a labour intensive way to do it.
Just get a pick axe and level the whole thing up. Mine took me an hour - on a 30 year old pine stump.
Good job man
Well done
i would use a SG350 stumpgrinder powered by a 16HP Twin Vanguard Engine, please consider hiring or renting a stumpgrinder, great effort on the video!
Red Roo Some people preserve the stump for projects as i
Yeah that is fun. I think the neighbors might have objected though. ;)
