It was really hard to understand indeed. I was so confused when i jumped into the rabbit hole a few months ago.. and almost every time I had to read comments by ARMY to catch whatvI missed.
Very meaningful storyline once you dig deeper.. I fell in love not only with BTS but also their producers and directors (basically BigHit for supporting them)
The “girl” in the lyrics doesn’t really represents their lover. It represents some other people, like, mother and sister. Once you get deeper into the storyline, you’ll be surprised how deep it is. Each member has their own individual stories, despite the fact they appear in one music video.

Cris s well the lyrics are not necessarily part of the storyline but it was also not intended to be specifically about a romantic relationship. BTS themselves have said that the original lyric was actually supposed to be something along the lines of “I need you friend” but it just didn’t flow as well lyrically/musically so that’s the reason why they had decided to change it

Also that girl was Taehyung's (V) sister(in fictional story of course). You should react to BTS storyline summary to learn more.

The music girl is subjective and represents the very important figures of each character:
RM - is a boy who tries to support his mother and siblings alone and is under pressure to be who he is not.
SUGA - lost his mother in a fire as a child and blames himself for it, getting various traumas.

JIMIM- went through an episode in "Arboredo" as a child near his school, and is attacked when he remembers the fact, his mother ashamed puts him in a hospital for several years.

V - lives in an abusive house the death of his mother where he can see his stepfather mistreat him and especially his sister.

Every song of BTS has meaning at it differs in each person. That's how bts mv's are. Even the this lyrics "I need you girl" seems to be a metaphor. This song is really about friendship. It's how they reminiscing their past with each other. Bts storyline is very complicated but fascinating. You should also react to Run after this. Then followed by Stigma, First love, Mama, Lie. Maybe I have the song not in order but this song is all connected in I need U cause its part of the same album,. Did my memory serves me right?? Well, I guess it is.💜💜💜💜

Not sure Spring Day should be considered storyline. It was a veiled critical and inspirational response to a real world event. That is why it is so beloved by South Koreans that it still charts. Other K pop groups might also have responded more forcefully if their Big 3 corporations management wasn't fearful of being blacklisted, but trust me they wanted to. Ultimately the administration that BTS, albeit tepidly but in plain sight, took on was removed from office. Let's promote this as a freestanding song worthy of the highest in accolade.

The whole concept is based on Herman Hesse 's demIan kinda like a twist of bts is in too. They all have gone through very painful past which u will learn after some time and it was shown that they kinda like regarded each other as their emotional support bcs they forget every kind of pain when they r together so that is y hobi was throwing his pills in the fire but it all changed after v did that mistake and it marked the point of no return for him . When he broke apart one by one each of them fell apart too.Then the happy moments are the memories they want to cherish and want to relive. It is a story of deep sorrow,despair,psychological,emotional pain and deep friendship. In bSt it was shown that v became fallen angel he made a deal with u know and lead each of them to death . They tried to save each other but couldn't. Jin was the saviour that made the deal with v for letting everyone go by kissing the statue that is y his face cracked and after that the journey loving yourself before anything else starts. Yeah there is time travel too so iI is best if u watch the analysis of the mvs bcs what I gave is a rough description so watch this for deeper understanding.

I love how you guys said you pay attention to details and what goes on on the MV. Oh, you guys are in for a treat . Friendly advise though, you need to pay more close attention to details . You wouldn't understand it in 1 or 2x of watching. As you progress on the MV's story line, the more it gets deeper so pay close attention to details and even the smallest ones coz their MV's tends to give symbolism that holds.deeper meaning as what the message of certain MV actually tell. It is more the the visual and definitely more than the song lyrics itself. IF you want to try to work it out yourselves go for it, its like alice in wonderland a deep tunnel you delve into and wonder wtf your doing in it.....lol......its fun but its deep and confusing. One army had her walls plastered with album covers, string, notes, theory all connected together much to her familys horror.....lol......But i think you understand the idea it connects army as well.

Extremely complex to get. In this one the relationship of the song to the storyline is less about lyrics than the lyrics setting up the mood. Big take on storyline, when the boys are together they are fine. When they are not their lives take bad turns. While the true start of the storyline lies in another format outside this video, this mv is our first introduction to a world in which, due to outcome of events which have dispersed the boys into separate worlds, their lives become hellish. Jin will become the central piece of this story as you will see as you proceed deeper into the story. I will not explain more as I think you guys do not need someone spoiling the story. Just proceed to "Prologue" and watch it all the way through. And remember there really are two things when you dissect these videos, the boys together and the boys apart. You probably will need discussion with ARMY commenters at that point.

The girl does not represent a person..its just a metaphor..I need you is the beginning of the Bangtan Universe...as u can see in the MV it shows the story of 7 young boys, their past and future..Jin is the only person who can travel through time and tried to save his 6 friends..sorry I know its kinda confusing right now but try to watch the other MV recommended by the other army commented here you can appreciate the storyline. Don't worry the story hasn't end yet. Actually Bighit and a production company will release a korean drama about bangtan universe. Later on we will find out soon the whole story.

In I NEED U MV (the "girl" represents the members/each other. Most BTS songs are rarely about a "girl", even if it is about a girl, that girl is ARMY), you need to pay attention to what each individual member is going thru when they are by themselves. When BTS is together they are happy, but when they are alone, they have their own individual fear/problem to face. BTS leave a lot of hints in the MV so pls PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS IN THE MV!
-Jhope: you can see at the very beginning he took some pills so that's why he overdosed and passed out on the bridge (keep in mind Jhope is associated with pills)
-Jungkook: You see him shed a tear at the very beginning. he ran away from home and got beaten up by a gang of people, and afterward, he almost got bit by a car at 9:35 (please remember this fact)
-Jimin: try to drown himself in the bathtub (need to remember Jimin is associated with water and bathtub)
-Suga: He is inside a hotel room and holding his lighter in his hand. He pours gasoline all over the hotel room and set the room and himself on fire with the lighter (need to remember Suga is associated with the lighter and fire)

Jin: he is the one with the 6 white flower petals (each petal represents each BTS member). He's the only one who seems normal and doesn't have any problems. He witnessed all his friends going thru their pains and sufferings. (need to remember he is associated with flower petals and the CAMERA/photos)

for this MV the MV story and lyrics are not related, so yeah the MV is not about a girl or basically a relationship between a man and a girl. but about a young man with youth, life, and happiness.

Jimin: Try to drown himself at the bathup
RM: mistreated at his work (customer throw the money to him) and he burn the money with a cigarette (in gas station?!)
JIN: Burn the flower in his room, the flower will make some gas.
V: he didn’t attempt suicided but he kills his father, you can see a man who beat a girl before (the girl is V’s sisters) and all the bottle in front of the room represent that his father is alcoholic. and he grabbed the bottle and kill his father with it.
this MV is the start of Bangtan Universe, when all of the MV connected and the storyline so confusing .. deep and dark. hahahaha. maybe it will be more help if you try to watch the explanation video about it. thanks for your reaction.

There are 2 suggestions to dive into the BTS universe storyline.
1. If you're lazy and isn't the type to think too much- then you can just watch others explanations and just go with that. Not really a problem, but you will lack the comprehension and experience that the storyline can actually provide. OR
2. You can go about the storyline through researching by yourself. Not only you can feel the and think of the storyline, but it can get you out of a lot of notions and make a theory for yourself. THE NOTES , Just so you know as of now, it's not fully release yet- there are still missing timelines esp at year 21.) Is essential bec it came directly from Bighit and their writers. Also, to dive deeper into the storyline you MUST read all the translations of their songs chronologically. (There are some dialogues exchange in between them- example is STIGMA - making it a complete novel- though there are very few who actually realize this. Bighit doesn't need to release a full novelization of the storyline bec it's completely written in their songs. Go figure. 😂) also, I won't really suggest much of the save me webtoon- it helps interms of graphical representations it's still related to the storyline but it's created by LICO (the copyright belongs to Bighit) In short it did not came from BIGHIT's original writers.
My suggestion:
1. watch the compilation of story videos fully. From HYYH, WINGs(the short clips and BST), YNWA and LY series. You can start from there. The main videos. (Some of the MVs only contains very few hints- you can check them all later when you have decided to read all the translated songs.)
2. Yes. You need to check all the songs CHRONOLOGICALLY. Even Whalien52 is a part of this amazing novel. Yes even Magic shop. Though there are few exceptions like the cypher series, 2!3! And most of the mixtapes bec it's more on personal songs.( but the main songs of the mixtapes are story related songs)
3. And then you can check THE NOTES fully. The translated one. I usually find the fully translated NOTES in ARMY Amino- so you won't have any problems getting that.:)
Lastly, don't forget to enjoy the ride~ 🙂 you won't appreciate the storyline and experience it fully if you don't have the interest to dive deeper. If you decided to do so, you won't regret it. One of the reasons I fell in love with BTS artistry is this storyline. Tell me a musician who can deliver their songs in such artistry It's as if you're watching a movie, a musical, a theater play all in one. It is indeed a storyline for healing. I remember crying so much when I realized it. I throw away so many notions and preconceptions and ideas given to me in a platter by other army fams and decided to search on my own to realize what the story is all about. Mark my words. You won't regret diving into the BU. 💜
