She's funny. She's possessive of her people, and doesn't like company. She's not into being pet very often, but she loves to play. Play is her love language.
@@GeekmomD huh. Yeah my tom Pablo uses play to communicate love too, I think. Not a fan of cuddling or being held but he does love to rub up on you, wants to be where all the people are, and to know what's going on. First cat I've had that's not a cuddler that is so friendly, talkative and interested in watching us.
Medina, I have been searching for info on long distance moves, and this is the only video I've found that addressed it directly. I am taking my timid 10 yr.old on a long trip - besides familiar items ( we already prepped w the litter and smelly blankies,) did anything else help you?
@@mimime5376 I would get a cat, but :') I still live with my parents whom have 4 dogs, that would not accept a feline family member. I make do with seeing my grandmother's cat lol.
Just checking on you. I hope you’re feeling better. But if you aren’t...you aren’t and that’s okay too. Just know you’re valued and loved and your presence matters. The world needs you.
I have been there myself. To the point of needing professional help. I sincerely hope that you feel much better now. Do not be afraid to ask for help if you feel the need. It is out there. BTW: Thank God I no longer need medication for my depression. I will say a special prayer for you if you do not mind. Have a nice day. ✌
I've been watching so much of your videos about adopting another cat and introduction lately. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the vet to take out a couple of teeth on one of my two cats, he had been low lately and they found an aggressive type of cancer under the tongue and throat.. so I went home without him. My other cat have never been alone before (also adopted) and is not her self. Tomorrow I am going to visit a cat that needs an forever home and I am so thankful for all the videos you have to prepare. I do wish you were available in Sweden during coming intro. These videos really matters!
My girlfriend and I just adopted our first cat Chester, a 3 year old male. We tried to do base camp, but he literally wanted to explore the whole place on the first day. He WOULD NOT stay in the bathroom or bedroom to save our lives. He’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever met though. It’s day three and HE WILL NOT STOP SNUGGLING either of us (mostly me though, I’m much warmer lmao). Thank you Jackson Galaxy for both the great advice, and pushing us towards adoption.
Some times that works with some not shy, not traumatized cats or you have no other pets at home you can let them roam your home the first day. Need to block off places so they cannot hide like under recliner chairs, couches, under beds, under furniture that are open in the back like hutch. Have something else like a box turned upside down, cat tent etc. for safer options for them to find for small space to hide and easier for you to find them. If you have a home basement not to let them explore until a later date and block off crawl spaces, behind washer and dryers etc. When I had a single cat that passed away my husband and I decided to adopt 2 cats from the same foster home that became friends and the foster mom had them set up in the same room in foster care. We decided to adopt them both and they got along great with each other. We did not set up a base camp for them we just let them roam the house right away to explore and blocked off areas we thought they could get trapped or something or hide. They both were ready to explore and did not want to be confined, confident cats. They were familiar with our home in a few days and all they had to do was work out the territories that was their favorite places and routine with us. There was no introduction needed they already knew each other from their foster home. This does work with no previous pets at home, single cats or a pair that you adopt together that have been introduced at shelter or foster home setting. Go by your individual case and take each cats personality and not being traumatized from their past prior to being put in a shelter or foster home before you adopted them. Shy , abused, stray single cat would be much better in a small space camp set up for them first in your home and see how long it depends on their own terms not our preference for speed to get them adjusted to their new environment, smells , sounds and getting to know you their new pet parent.
I made a ton of mistakes with basecamp. I have a small house. 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. All small rooms. Two rooms are bedrooms, mine and my husbands. The other bedroom is part storeroom and base camp for our 1st two cats. We also have two dogs. So my bedroom is a hangout for the two dogs mostly. The dogs tend to race around the house. The 1st two cats have made more scent soakers in different places including my room (least used due to dogs) and the two other bedrooms. When we adopted 2 additional adult male brothers, I thought the better option was to put the new brothers in my bedroom for basecamp, because my bedroom was used more by the dogs. However this resulted in my dogs not being with me as much, my other cats becoming crazy with frustration at not getting in my room and the new cats at not getting out. So, I am considering moving base camp for the new cats to the third bedroom which has 2 litter boxes and is mostly storage but has high shelving where one of our first cats loves to hang out. I am wondering if the move would be a bad idea, but right now it seems like the entire animal community (2 dogs and now four cats) are very unhappy. If I move their basecamp to the third room, the move will upset 5he new cats and the one cat who will lose his room, but it hopefully would result in 3 cats being unhappy versus all six animals being unhappy. The introductions have been going on 7 weeks now. I have been using Jackson’s flower essences to help with stress and bullying the past three weeks, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Any thoughts or feedback? I’m desperate. 😊
You don't just live there. You're the cat's Vroomba, with futuristic food preparation features. Don't believe that? Watch what happens when it knocks glassware off the table. See? Vroomba!
when I adopted my first cat (as an adult), I binge watched all your videos, even from years old. you've helped a lot! my cat has a fuzzy throw blanket as "base camp." now I'll bring it whenever she's changing environments! thanks for the tip.
Jackson Galaxy always gives great advice. When I adopted our last cat I asked the rescue to give us an item like a blanket or cat bed the cat we were adopting and bringing it to her our home so she knew she was staying and has something with her scent on it. It made her more comfortable less nervous in her new space camp room /sanctuary room set up for her and doing slow introduction to another resident cat. I was surprised the rescue said they never have people ask or give the adopter and item. To this day that blanket that came with her is her favorite base camp blanket. They did give us a blanket she has been using and then we turned around and bought some blankets to give to the rescue to replace the one they gave to us. I highly recommend asking a shelter rescue for an item that has the cats, mother cats or siblings scent on it and if you can have it when you adopt a kitten or cat and turn around and donate to help with supplies or buy them extra blankets, cat beds, toys etc. for giving you and item for your new adopted kitten or cat you and bring to your home. If they don't have an item for them to have a blanket to rub on them, mother cat or siblings if you get a kitten from a litter that were still there when you adopt. It really helps all animals adjust even dogs having an item to take home. It is nice having something in the carrier as for a kitten or cat travel to their new home something they are familiar with. Also helps them feel at home in their new space camp room you set up for them. It does help a kitten adjust without momma cat or their siblings in a single adoption or cat adjust so much better having something with their scent on it since they have had so much change, separation prior to you adopting them brings stability especially the first few days in space camp having an item they are familiar with. Just like some cats that get returned to shelter because own dies or needs to go into nursing home etc. and cannot keep them or family do not want them. It also helps if previous owner can give you items from their home for the cat like a small cat tree, cat bed an item that smells their previous owner helps to avoid severe depression and the animal in shock losing their stable home and the owner they loved. I remember a story a friend of mine who does rescue found out an owner could not keep their senior cat and it was having a very hard time in the shelter and the cat had nothing from its previous home and it almost died from depression, anxiety, scared and refusing to eat. My friend took the cat home and they were luck to get hold of the previous owner and family before they through out all the cats belongings my friend was able to get the cats previous cat tree, litter box and a few other items. The finally started eating and gaining my friends trust after she brought in items that the cat was familiar with. The next morning the cat came out of hiding in her space camp where my friend has her set up and was able to start connecting with the cat and she was asleep on her cat tree and ate the food she had set out for her. The cat recovered from the trauma of leaving the only home she knew since she was a kitten and was 10 years old the cat. My friend made sure to find this senior cat quiet single home to live the rest of her life in and the cat tree and a few other items went with her to her new permanent home. Also my friend that does rescue would visit the cat to help new owner with her transition since she was a foster mom to this senior cat.
What a great idea! I'm going to do it and request the shelter consider building it into the adoption fee if needed to send every adopted cat home with an item with their scent in the carrier so they'll not feel so overwhelmed when entering their new environment. Can you imagine how many lives are brighter because Jackson volunteered to work in a shelter and has helped all of us be even better Guardians for our companions ? I'd feel so good if I could look back upon my life as having helped improve the world so much. He's still going, too! I missed his new live show by a day but have to join and support him as he's helped all of us learn to pay it forward in Trap Neuter Release [ TNR] programs to help stop the tough existances cats living without homes experience. The growing number of feral cats who never learned to trust humans while young and are hidden under structures sometimes with only one or two people trying to provide some food on incomes that are not providing excess funds but they can't sit back and ignore animals in need across our country. The fact that we still are killing millions of healthy animals in shelters per year is so tragic and preventable. Please be proactive and always have your animals fixed so we can stop this travesty from occurring any longer. Bless you all for caring enough to learn more about how to improve your pets quality of life while under your care.
I have had many cats during my life so far... more than most due to work rescuing, working with and finding homes for many feral cats. I didn't just fix a colony I dismantled it and sent all adoptable cats (which was most of them) to new homes. But one that had claimed me - my Fuzzy Face - had his own basecamp and I didn't have to do anything but make sure we had two bathrooms. His basecamp was always a bathtub. He would choose which one and that was it. When stressed he would go sleep in the tub. When he passed away he chose the bathtub as well. He went to sleep in there and didn't wake up. I found him in the morning. - Heidi
We recently adopted an adult cat from a shelter. He had been found on the street, has only one eye and a deeply scarred lower lip. Poor thing had been in the shelter over a year. When he first got here, he was terrified. Your videos really, really helped. We started with a base camp, and by now he is being very brave and conquered the whole house, as well as our hearts.
Funny story... My daughter had a flue so she took her old baby blanket on her way to granny's. When she got better, she figured the blanket smells like our older cat, Mirko. My mum asks to wash the blanket, and she's like NO! I love Mirko's scent! So, it's not only about the cats.
@Brian "Cool story, bro!" Actually, English is just this foreign language I used to learn in school and can use just enough. How many foreign languages do you speak and write grammatically correct? (Actually, don't bother answering, the question was rhetorical.)

Katarina P that’s good, I only just started watching cat daddy. Next week I collect 2 Maine Coon kittens after 30+ years of solitary adult rescue cats, so I want to be prepared for the mayhem. Halfway through….and I’m kneeling on the ground (in the cat yoga position, actually) THANKING you 🙏. This information that I did not have…is going to be the key to maintaining my cat’s mojo in my new home❤️.
Just adopted my 9 year old baby today! She's cuddling in a room with me, happy 😊 my other kitty is cuddling with my husband in another room! Slowly introducing, her Basecamp is here with me This video was sooooo helpful I haven't got a new kitty in 12 years, I was rusty! Jackson Galaxy I've been watching you for years, you're amazing!
I got a barn cat about a year ago now. She was so scared of everything, but with your help shes now the most loving, curious, playful angel. I cant thank you enough, im so proud of how far shes come
I just want to say I'm a first-time cat owner and I'm so thankful that I found your channel you have taught me so much these past couple weeks for me to be a new kitty owner I have set my base camp up I put her litter box right in my living room no judgment I have let her take over the living room and I just want to say I feel like I can do this now because I have Jackson to help me get through all of my trials and tribulations thank you
how are you and your kitty doing now? I'm just wondering, did you keep the door to the room basecamp is located in closed when you first brought your new friend home or did she have acces to the entire house immediately, I'm trying to figure out if and how long I should keep the cat in 'basecamp only' teroitority before they can explore the entire house without feeling too stressed.
@@nanatadewit461 I actually kept bathroom and bedroom doors closed for the first month... I wanted to see if there were any accidents or anything and she does good.... after the month I let her in my daughter room...it's like baby proofing the house...she can get up counters now so I have to restratagize that .. good luck
When my family moved to a new house we had all the same furniture so the cats were okay, but one of my cats slept cuddled in my arms the first night. I couldn’t sleep a wink but it was super cute cause he never did it before.
Thanks Jackson!!! I just adopted a 1 year old shy kitty who was hiding a lot and hissing at me when I moved too fast. Now, a week later, she is a feisty cat that lovesssss to play and get pets!!! I'm moving things out into the rest of the house now and I'm sure she will hide again when I open the door, but I think this basecamp concept has really helped her confidence and I'm hoping she can feel comfortable through and through. I'm so proud of her. It really is mojo!!!!
I love, love, loooooove your videos. They're so interesting, you teach us cat lovers/owners, very important things. Thank you Jackson. Love from Colombia. 😻
I agree with you completely I have learned so much watching these videos. I have a cat room just for them and I noticed a huge difference. Anytime they were stressed they run to their room and they are happy. Thank you for helping us!
Do you put litter box in the room if it's the first base camp ? I share a house with my housemate and I want my cat to feel safe in my room first . But I plan to put the litter box in the living room 😣 Help
@@lM3LODYl A good rule of thumb is that you should have one litter box per cat plus one (& should be scooped on a daily basis - think of it in terms of having to use a porta potty that hasn't recently been cleaned So with just the one cat, I'd suggest putting one in the living room and one in your bedroom. That way kitty always has access to a potty box whether your bedroom door is left cracked open or not. You may also need to play around with the placement of your cat's potty boxes to find out where they are more comfortable alleviating themselves. For instance, I had this one cat that refused to use the litter box and kept going potty under my bed until I moved his potty box into a corner. I rarely had a problem after that.
Know this is a few months old, don’t know if you’ll even see this but just wanted to say thanks to both you and Kitten Lady. I have always loved cats (which is ironic cause the rest of my family are dog people) but in the last few months I’ve taken it upon myself that I want to learn as much as I can about them. Not yours and her videos and posts that I’ve started to follow and watch have been very helpful along with books and other internet resources. I’ve yet to be able to own a cat sadly, but the way I see it if I go ahead and start all of this research/journey, I’ll be able to make their lives that much better when I’m able to adopt!

Hola, so happy to be a part of the Kitty community with Mr. Jackson. I will be brining home two 8 week old kittens from a stray mama. I have a 9 month old resident cat....wish me luck
My cats safe place is our bedroom, I always advice visitors to leave her alone unless she initiates contact. She's not a huge fan of strangers and has kidney disease, so this makes for a less stressed and happier kitty.
I adopted a rescue from foster. She was a very scared little girl. I watched a ton of your videos for insight. I was not able to implement all of your suggestions for her. But I have been able to provide multiple litter boxes for her, wet food and kibble to knosh on, treats, beds, free reign of the house,.... She is my pretty baby girl. We bond more every morning. And most of her happiness is due to your help and suggestions. I thank you, and Onna thanks you.
Love all your videos :-) I have 4 cats in a small apartment....all rescue. When the newest cat gets too agressive with one of the other cats I bring her into our bedroom for a while to calm down. but it's getting slowly better when we play a lot with her. Hunt catch kill eat! this calms them down.
Thank you so much, I’m adopting a 3 year old kitty in a few weeks and I want her introduction to my home to be successful. She lost her original mom from Covid and has been staying with that ladies daughter whom has a few other kitties already so my husband and I thought long and hard and decided to take her in. I have never had an indoor cat before, so all your videos have been super helpful. Especially this one. I’m so excited but am trying to stay calm so she will like me and not get stressed out 😻
I'm foster home that help cats being adopted. Plz share some tips how to ease the tense of cats when they first relocate to new home. For instance if the cats meowing all night causes they're anxious to the new place, what can new guardian do so that both of them could get some rest. Thank you very much.
Original TW_YoungDesign HEY! :) I just went through this! So here’s what I did. First of all make sure to crate them if they are very small. You must have a crate large enough that you couldn’t carry it alone. It must be about the size the vet uses. I set it up with a “snugglesafe “ warming disc. Also putting a tic tock clock just outside of the crate mimics the heart beat. They sell things that do this also. Put all the things that you fostered the cat with. His basecamp stuff in the crate. His water bowl and feeding is done in the room where the crate is. Always leave the crate door open when the kitten is not in it. Keep the cat or kitten restricted to one room for a week or more. Opening up the house. One room at a time. For them to explore. Also moving the base camp items out and allowing new ones to be made by the cat. If it’s NOT a kitten. Skip the crate part. And just confine to a room that has good temperature and is near the proud new parents. The cat shouldn’t meow too much unless he is wanting. Cats do NOT enjoy playing alone. Nothing really does. So I recommend timing the meals and timing play time. Play with the cat the way jackson describes. Allowing them to climb. Hunt. Run. Get them tired. They will sleep well on the snuggle safe that’s nice and warm when they are tired. They are very regimented. So keep them on a regimen. I could type for hours what I have been through. From bottle feedings to the newborn whose mom left the hour she had him. To introducing them to older cats. Etc. It’s all thought and all mojo. Pay attention to your cats. They are paying attention to you. Put the phone DOWN when u play with them. Tv isn’t on bcuz YOU AND THE CAT will be distracted by the movements on the screen. But base camp is a must. And if they are kittens. I kept mine in the room for 2 months. He was 3.2 ounces when I found him. So almost only 3 ounces. It was very hard. And very rewarding. He is a little gift. And a maniac. I know I have had to put him in the bathroom somentimes with all of his things just to get some sleep. Bcuz I’m not a kitten and I get tired !! Lmao. Eventually. So will he. But if the two don’t match up then they have to go to sleep in another room. That’s why the crate is handy. It fits all their stuff and it’s the first place they have ever been.
Aww thank you for being a great foster parent and good foster home for all the kitties!! I'm so thankful there are still great people like you on Earth! Thanks for caring enough to all questions to make your fosters transition to your home easier and less stressful and scary! Yay I'm happier now lol. Ya I know I'm weird but figured I needed to give you some praise. 😻😻😻
Im new to owning a cat, Ive been a dog person all my life, thanks to your channel Im learning how to make my little buddy happy, and being the best cat owner I can!
I really liked learning about base camp and why it is so important. I have had my cat Marvin for a little over 10 years. We added an additional pet our dog Nyack 3 years ago. I started noticing Marvin behavior changing because he is so chill and the dog is hyper and extremely jealous, the cat was anxious, eating to fast and hiding when Nyack was coming around. I just started making a base camp for Marvin and I hope he will love the change and feel more secure and less stressed soon.
Make sure teach your dog bounaries to respect your cats space. Give them positive reinforcement when they are together. Slow intro on their terms. Good luck!
Make sure for the cat to have higher places it can climb up on like tall cat tree, wall cat walk with shelves so the cat can feel he has his own cat s[ace to get away from the dog. Hope it is working out and remember to take the introduction slow on their terms. Some cats and dogs it can take up to a year or more for them to finally accept each other and they are not a threat to each other. Hope your introduction is going well.
The timing for this video is impeccable. I'm moving out from my parents' house with my 12yo tortoiseshell Chiquita, and I've been trying to figure out the best way to bring back apartment scents and transport house scents to the apartment so it's not as big a shock for her. My new roommate isn't quite a cat lover like I am, but she likes my cat enough to let me try catifying the space. However...I'm not sure where to set up base camp. The apartment doesn't have any doors except the exteriors, the bathroom, my roommate's bedroom, and a storage room. The storage room is right next to the main living area, though there's also some space up top in the main living area. At my parents' home, she runs to a quiet room when people come over. If things quiet down or she smells food, she'll peek out. There's a high shelf (mostly unused) in the main living area, and I suppose making that base camp could get her more used to people, or maybe I could section off an area of my no-door bedroom. Any thoughts from someone who's done this before?
Jackson, how do you keep base camps emotionally "safe" when you have two cats? Our new cat LOVES our other cat's base camp and she won't go there for comfort anymore.
I literally love you! I literally did cat research along side my fiance for about 6 months before we got a kitty and with your advice and guidance we finally got one and she is so happy!!!! We spoil her rotten and give her all the love we possibly can! We only have one litter box (I know:( ) but we only have a studio apartment so I thought that may be ok. She has been doing really well with it. And since we only have her I am not afraid of her feeling phased out or unloved!!
I've recently adopted a cat and your videos have been extremely helpful! Unfortunately before I adopted him, he was hit by a car and had to have his tail amputated! :'( In many of your videos, you use the posture of the cat's tail as an indicator of Mojo. I was hoping you could please point towards some other ways I can read my tailless cat's mood/feelings? Thanks so much for all of the wonderfully helpful insights and advice! .
Ears and eyes. Flattened ears are a sign they’re frightened/angry, wide eyes can be fear I think. Closed eyes obv indicate contentment. Butt in your face is a sign of trust and friendship 😂

Man, You are doing such a great job!! I'm moving my cat into an apartment in a few days. Base camp all the way!!! Thank you, you've put my mind at ease.
I'm looking to adopt a cat very soon and have been watching as many videos as I can of yours. Truly, thank you so much for these! They are so informative and easy to understand and I feel less nervous about adopting my first cat! Knowledge is power!!
That explains so much... I recently moved my computer from the family room I to my bedroom (where I spend most of my time) and from the next day to the present my cat would/will not stop meowing at me. Now I know why. I changed where I spend most of my time. I guess I'll just have to set my PC up on the giant TV in the family room. (Nothing like gaming on a 4k big screen, am I right?)
I love this guy so much!! Got a 6 year old cat from the shelter about 10 months ago. Shes blossomed so well! Have patience 😺 I have her on a feeding routine and have engaged her with play which has made her a lot more perky. And petting her when she makes it obvious she wants to be pet has helped us get closer
This was extremely helpful!! We just adopted a young rescue (5 mo.) and we already own one (senior) cat. So we're keeping the new kitten in the spare room until she acclimates to the space. Then, we will start introducing scents to one another. Wish us luck! ✌ Thanks as always for your advice Jackson!!
I wanted to let you know about my cat's new quarentine behavior. First my cat's Basecamp is the bedroom, mainly the bed but also the whole room. My Basecamp seems to be the living room, especially the couch. Since quarentine, my Kenny comes out to me and will lay next to me and I will pet and cuddle with him. It took me awhile but I finally got it, what he really wanted was for me join him and his mom in the bedroom. I have had these beautiful beings for twelve years and this is definitely a quarentine newby. Just wanted to share this with you. You are definitely right about listening to your cats and joining in on what they need.
Purrfect timing for this video as I will be picking up my new 5 month old rescue kitten on Wednesday. My last dear furry friend, Delilah, passed away last year and so I need a bit of help with what to do with new friends in the home. Love you and what you do for our furry friends.

I’m two minutes in and already super grateful for this video. I’m a non-cat person who is currently fostering a stray cat and her 3 kittens. They were born at the cottage but we have to move them home in a week or so. This will help me make the transition less stressful for them, especially mama. Thank you so much for your insight! I just washed a few of their blankets but I’ll be more mindful of leaving them be as is as we move them.
Jackson you’re videos have become a life saver for me- however there are so many reasons why my cat could be behaving the way she is! I am having a hard time finding out the “why” in her story! Detective work can be difficult!
With a lot of people transitioning into van life I would love to see some examples of how you would go about doing some of these things in a van or small living space. Thanks for the info Jackson! Keep up the good work!

My cats’ base camps are the entire house. They are EVERYWHERE ALWAYS. For real! They both sit on allllllll the beds allllllll the couches allllllll the blankets. Us. The only things they both dont touch is their particular radiator baskets (they each have one) and they each have a blanket that they love and the other one hates. Basecamp is the whole house XD
Thanks for these, Jackson. Please say "Hi" to my Crackerjack? He's just turned "10," and he might be offended if you failed to acknowledge his first decade with us...lol...
My cat is seriously the calmest cat. He is very good about moving. We just moved twice in a year and both times he came into the house and just was at ease completely. Yes he did rub on everything. But he was just so chill. We have 3 beds for him in the house in some of his favorite spots. Mind you wherever I go he goes. I am also his bed. He is the boss of the house for sure but he is super sweet. Every room in the house has something of his there except the master bedroom and bathroom.
Hi there. You may have to experiment with different toys like feathers on a string/stick, safe pet laser pointer etc to find out what they're interested in? One episode of my cat from hell Jackson started a cat interested in play by using an electric toy that had a predictable movement most cats get bored of but it gave this particular cat confidence. Another episode the cat was actually blind & the guardian didn't know. Sometimes Jackson talks about "being the bird" & imagine being the prey not just dangling it right in front of the cat's face, sort of getting it to fly around a bit then landing or coming down so the cat can try to pounce it. Idk if any of that helps!
How long have you had him, and how old is he? Is he not playing at all, or just not playing with you? You want to make sure he's feeling ok. If he's not eating or drinking properly, or if he's going potty outside of his litter box he should see the vet. Cats should be dewormed at least once a year, twice if he goes outside at all. They can commonly get bladder infections and he wouldn't be very playful then.
my cat loves string and feathers, laser pointers he gets sick of easy, try a small ball too (just keep kicking it around him/her) sometimes they need a startup time :P (get that engine going). but yeah keep trying, at first our cat really didn't care for anything but string... but after awhile he went for about anything (the only thing he really doesn't care about is mouse stuff) but that's mainly cause he likes to go outside and get the real deal and bring that inside to play =.=;; XD
Ping pong ball as an interactive you might work. A very thin gift wrap yarn on a stick you swing around and pull behind you. Even a long ribbon around your ankle while you walk around and around the corners. Get some straw ribbon from Michaels in the flower binding dept. cats love lovelove that. When you open it and throw it on the floor with some cat nip they get wild and playful. They slide into it, and it gives that nice small sound every time they do it. Every one of our still living cats love it and the ones that have past loved it, and my neighbors cat loves it too.
QUESTION for JACKSON: how can I get my cats to use the bed they had as kittens again. I washed it and they sniff it and walk away. I've tried laying their blanket on it but they stay away from it.
Jackson, my wife and I have two cats and I stay home all day every day. I have medical issues where I end up in the hospital about once a month (sometimes less sometimes more). My cats start fighting cause I'm not there and their schedule for play and food changes cause my wife works and she comes and visits me. Then they continie fighting for a few days after I return. What can I do to ease the transotion for them?
Did basecamp and didn’t even know it when we moved house! Kitty (who is extremely adaptable to begin with, spends holidays at my catsitter’s!) was freaked out when we moved so I gave her a basecamp. In just a couple days she was out and about being her normal loving social self...it works!!
I have a cat who won’t play. I get her toys and if she likes them she plays with them until she tires of them. She isn’t very reactive to catnip. I’ve tried rotating toys every few months. She won’t even play with her fishing pole toys anymore and they were the last thing I could get her to engage with. She is even frightened of some toys. Springs terrify her and if she sees one she runs out of the room. Is my cat depressed? I briefly considered getting another cat but I can only have one cat due to many reasons I don’t care to go into here. I want her to be happy. She doesn’t seem happy anymore. She is not even 2 years old yet. I’m worried. There are circumstances in my life that I can’t change (I’m disabled) and I can’t pick her up. But she loves to cuddle in bed with me most nights. When I need to trim her nails I have to coax her with favorite treats into my lap. Sometimes I take her outside and do the same to put her harness on but she is beginning to catch onto my “trick”. I always try to use a calm voice and calm hands and body language to make it as positive an experience as possible. She is a very good girl and really smart. I’m working on teaching her some tricks too.
Could it be just her own personality/character? Or it could be genetic as well. Depressed cats usually show more telling signs (just like human), things like: suddenly doesn't want to eat or eat way too much, either going into hiding a lot or become clingy, being more agressive or a lot more reserved all of a sudden, being very lethargic, peeing pooping outside the litter box, and so on. I have a 4 year old rescue cat, she doesn't respond well to catnips as well (instead of making her calm and happy, it turns her to be very agressive and agitated, so i never use it). She usually just want to play with her bunch of toys on either early morning or night time, and only for a few minutes. Other than that, she's just either chilling, sleeping, sunbathing, or lying around the house all day. When she was a kitten just under 1yo, she was very incredibly active, but I notice the activity level definitely has been declining over the years. Her mom too was never an active cat. So I think that just might be a blend of her own character and genetic predisposition. Just a few suggestion tho, cats love to play with scrunched up papers, cardboards or plastic bags. I know mine does. She loves these a lot more than all the expensive toys I bought her. Just make sure to supervise them when they're playing with it. I know this is a veryyy long and late reply, but I hope this could help to ease your mind a bit. I wish you and your cat well. 😊😊😊
Holly Bercik there is a calming spray from Nature ..... at Petsmart, that you can spray onto the carpet (1-2. spritz) or around the places you want her to feel secure. It is with pheromones and helps a good deal to calm a cat. My friend showed me that there is a catnip spray that maybe entices the cat if you spray it onto a toy, maybe she will respond better to than to the raw herbal kind (leafy). Good luck. My cats responded to the calming spray very well, when I introduced them to each other.
You can buy clippers at the pet store for dogs and cats. I have a cat and I clip his nails once a month. The key is to do it when he is relaxed and what I did was I started messing with my cats feet while he’s relaxed and push on his nails so they pop out and extend and just get them used to it and then I would bring the clippers and just put them near his feet. You have to be patient and the key is to do it when he is RELAXED maybe when he is laying on your lap. Do not pressure him. Mine does it, doesn’t fight me, I don’t think he’s particularly fond of it but he tolerates it. And please whatever you do DO NOT declaw your cat as somebody on this thread suggested. It is cruel and inhumane. Just Google Jackson‘s videos about declawing if you don’t believe me. And the other key is to get scratching posts because that helps to keep their nails good. I hope this helps
Nice concept! Might be the reason why every cat we bring into the home, my eldest is always displease. We just plopped the new kitty in the floor and said, "Look! New sister!" LoL Should have had a base camp. We would have had to make it our bedroom, since that's the old large enough room in the house that would also be comfortable enough for kitty. I'm tempted to do this with our Maine Coon when we get one next year. :) I definitely want them all to get along, especially since he'll be so big when he's an adult. The good thing is that I only have two cats right now, and my senior kitty that I spoke of earlier seems to be welcoming our newest addition fairly well compared to all the others in her lifetime. I think it's because she's black and white, like her old friend who sadly passed away a few years ago. :( They were inseparable! But although she wasn't happy with the new kitty at first, she's grown to tolerate her and even eat from the same bowl. She even takes the banter that kitty gives her without opening up a can of whoopass. LOL. They may not cuddle or love on each other, but my senior kitty tolerates baby kitty, and baby kitty adores senior kitty. I'll take that!
I only have one bedroom with desk in it. Whenever he wants to have "time away" he loves laying in the far (tucked away) corner of it. Or in the closet if the door is open. Or under the bed between boxes and suitcases! He also moves around between his downstairs bed next to the window or on top of his scratching post or on his third (!) bed in his playpen. He sometimes tucks away in his carrier. 🤗🌹🐺🌹
My cat assertively re-scents my hand after I shower every day. She watches me shower, then immediately reapplies her scent when I get done
She's on top of it!! haha
Random crying outbursts are a sign that you're not just "kinda depressed," but potentially _clinically_ depressed. I've been there.
Just reaching out and making sure you're okay. You are loved and needed. Stick around, it gets better! Sending lots of light and love.
Just reaching out to see how you are doing. Depression is almost inevitable for deep hearts, you will get through it.
Lol watching this makes me realize that me and my cats have been sharing a basecamp which I call the living room
Update please! It's been a year or 2, has he been well?

@@lauriemcqueen5247 Awesome idea.
I'm a vet and this was super interesting and educational. They really don't teach enough animal behavior in vet school.

Do you put litter box in the room if it's the first base camp ? I share a house with my housemate and I want my cat to feel safe in my room first . But I plan to put the litter box in the living room 😣 Help
@@lM3LODYl A good rule of thumb is that you should have one litter box per cat plus one (& should be scooped on a daily basis - think of it in terms of having to use a porta potty that hasn't recently been cleaned
So with just the one cat, I'd suggest putting one in the living room and one in your bedroom.

Outdoor kitty will be totally hemmed in if not allowed access to outside when they want to go out.
@@annwilliams6438 Jackson has remedies for that too, like a catio...check some of his other videos!
Im new to owning a cat, Ive been a dog person all my life, thanks to your channel Im learning how to make my little buddy happy, and being the best cat owner I can!
good info i am moving to a new place and will bring cats stuff over first so they will know that is the new home
Yes, I agree with you.
Hello Liana, how is the weather over there?
love that guy - he is authentic and inspired by true love and understanding of kitty mojo 🐾❤🐾
One litter box is OK, only clean it DAILY, at least once! Then you will be fine and your cat stays happy.
I've recently adopted a cat and your videos have been extremely helpful! Unfortunately before I adopted him, he was hit by a car and had to have his tail amputated! :'(
In many of your videos, you use the posture of the cat's tail as an indicator of Mojo. I was hoping you could please point towards some other ways I can read my tailless cat's mood/feelings?
Thanks so much for all of the wonderfully helpful insights and advice!
.
Collin Mc whiskers are another good indicator or ears!

Can you do a cat introduction video small apartment version? Some of the tips you have in that video just won't work in my tiny apartment.
I'm looking to adopt a cat very soon and have been watching as many videos as I can of yours. Truly, thank you so much for these! They are so informative and easy to understand and I feel less nervous about adopting my first cat! Knowledge is power!!
This is great advice! I am driving my cat to a new state next weekend and want to help him feel comfortable in our new home.
Let us know how that goes. I move a lot and want to get a cat.
I'm doing the same, 2 cats over 3 nights, driving interstate....hoping it is not too stressful for us all.
I just adopted a cat and found your channel and have been binging your videos. They are so helpful! Thank you for all the amazing content!
Thx for helping us see the world thru 😸 eyes! Live Long & Prosper! ✌🌈
Thank you 🙏 Jackson for making this world a better place for cats & humans!!! 💗🌿☺️
Either that or put a scratching post and some cat stuff she already uses in your bedroom too?
I love this guy so much!! Got a 6 year old cat from the shelter about 10 months ago. Shes blossomed so well! Have patience 😺 I have her on a feeding routine and have engaged her with play which has made her a lot more perky. And petting her when she makes it obvious she wants to be pet has helped us get closer
My sister's getting ready to move with 4 cats. Good timing on this video :D
The kitty on the thumbnail is just THE BEST! Made me smile. ❤️
Thank you so much for these videos. I'm a new cat owner, and these are helpful
Yes I agree with you.
Hello Stephanie!
That's a very nice cat thumbnail. Lovely! 🤗
Informative video for cat-sitters too. Thank you 🐈✨
Purrfect timing for this video as I will be picking up my new 5 month old rescue kitten on Wednesday. My last dear furry friend, Delilah, passed away last year and so I need a bit of help with what to do with new friends in the home. Love you and what you do for our furry friends.
Sorry to hear about your Delilah 🐱❤ thank you for taking a rescue kitty in & saving a life 🙏

This is great! I'm bringing home 3 kittens tomorrow! Never had cats, only dogs, so I have been watching many of your videos the past few days. Cats are certainly not like dogs! I've learned soooo much. Thank you for your dedication.
Here I thought my cat was giving me hugs when she rubs up against me, 😄
Of course, she is! Would you hug someone you don't know? Why would she rub up against someone ho doesn't belong to you??
I wasn't done editing and my laptop hiccuped! LOL It's who doesn't belong to her or she isn't interested in...
you're the gold of cat 101! I've wanted a cat for so long and I'm building my house soon. I've already made plans and changes that will be needed to have a cat live happily
Love your work Jackson. Once the coronavirus lockdown is over, you should visit the Cat House on the Kings, and make a recording of your time there. :)
Yes indeed, I agree with you.
Hello Reba jeane!
With a lot of people transitioning into van life I would love to see some examples of how you would go about doing some of these things in a van or small living space. Thanks for the info Jackson! Keep up the good work!
Getting a kitten in a few weeks, im sure this will be helpful in raising him/keeping the kitten happy.
Wow, thanks Jackson! This video comes out just when I'm willing to bring a 20 years old cat and I already have another 4. It's very helpfull as you can imagine. Hugs from Chile.
Wow first time I found someone with the same name as my mother! Thank you for taking a 20yr old cat that's beautiful 🙏💖
@@elizabeth124 wow that's great! It is also hard for me to find someone with my name! And you have the same name as my mother too! I don't know why nobody wants to adopt adult cats, they are so grateful and lovely, I wish my decision inspire more people to do the same ☺
My cats’ base camps are the entire house.
Awww that sacred precious lil cotton bud is having a go at Jackson’s face cotton! Soooo cute!
Hi Jackson, can you talk about getting cats interested in playing? I’ve been trying with my cat, but he doesn’t seem interested.
Try a plastic straw like next time grab an extra straw or two at McDonald’s. It’s worked for every cat I’ve met.
my cat loves string and feathers, laser pointers he gets sick of easy, try a small ball too (just keep kicking it around him/her) sometimes they need a startup time :P (get that engine going). but yeah keep trying, at first our cat really didn't care for anything but string... but after awhile he went for about anything (the only thing he really doesn't care about is mouse stuff) but that's mainly cause he likes to go outside and get the real deal and bring that inside to play =.=;; XD
I'm thinking about adopting a cat and your channel is a Goldmine of information!!! Thank you so much for all the videos 😃
QUESTION for JACKSON: how can I get my cats to use the bed they had as kittens again. I washed it and they sniff it and walk away. I've tried laying their blanket on it but they stay away from it.
Thank you ! I have some much to try for my new cat saved from abuse.
Everything I can add for her sens of security is a blessing.
Peace
Wow I wish I knew this when introduced two of my cats. They hate each other and it causes fights
Understanding cats just got easier, thank you!
Could she have other health problems and need to see the vet? Most animals will lose interest in playing if they're sick, and cats hide illness.
Catnip makes a cat activ! Calming spray with pheromones calmesc a cat.
I love your deep seriousness about cats
I named you yesterday my kitten guru
I follow all your good tips and advices
Hi Jackson: Can you tell me how to clip our cats nails, he doesn’t like it.
Thanks
Take it to the vet. You're doing it wrong.
@@Churro_Flaminguez house cats get their nails clipped too, especially the ones that arent allowed outdoors.
Daniel Villalobos yes you can, because a cats nail can also ingrow into her toes. Especially when they get older. The tip of the nail will be cut.
We are adopting a cat so these videos are so helpful and fantastic. Thank you for your passion and talents
My cat hates it when I come home smelling like another cat.
Thanks for all your help and advices. My cat and me are happiers now. 😻👏👏
Can you make a video on how to introduce your cat to your dog? Thanks!!
I'm going to be moving soon, I can only afford a small one bedroom apartment. What's your advice on basecamp in that situation?
If you only have the one cat your room or the corner of the living room will work
I only have one bedroom with desk in it. 🤗🌹🐺🌹
Me and my family has an older cat we are planning on getting a kitten in a month or two, this was very helpful.
