I made this cake yesterday and John's description was spot on - soft, moist, and fudgy. It came out of the bundt pan just perfectly (I was nervous) and after the ganache was added it was a delightful sight. Neighbors came over for wine & this chocolate cake and loved it! They asked for the recipe, which is the ultimate compliment.
We just got 20cm of snow here is Ottawa, Canada. I just happen to have all the ingredients for this amazing cake. It will be a real treat after shovelling all that snow. Thanks again, love you.
Briefly
the components :
A cup and a half of hot water
A cup and a quarter of unsweetened cocoa powder
We mix them and put them on the side for about 10 minutes
Grease the cake pan with butter or oil and sprinkle with flour or cocoa powder
In another bowl, dry ingredients:
3 and a half cups of flour
2 and a half granulated sugar
2 and a half tablespoons of baking soda or baking powder
pinch of salt
We add to the cocoa that we have set aside:
1 cup of melted butter
Half a cup of vegetable oil
4 large eggs
1 cup of sour cream or its substitute, yogurt
A little bit of vanilla
- We put this mixture to the dry ingredients
We mix them all up
We put the mixture in a muffin mold and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 55 minutes

Yesterday I made a vanilla southern bundt cake which I LOVE. I have been baking with bundts since the '70's and happily welcome this great- looking recipe. John NEVER disappoints !
I never considered myself a baker but now after making several of your recipes I have found that it’s something I enjoy. I just need this chocolate Bundt cake yesterday and it’s amazing. The crème brûlée,and the olive oil cake are as well but the coffee cake and peanut butter cookies are the ones my family asked me to make all the time. Thank you for sharing your recipes.
Made this chocolate cake for the first time over the weekend and it turned out delicious. I decreased the sugar to 2 cups given I like my cakes semi sweet. Thanks John!

I made this cake today for Mother’s Day and it came out so moist and delicious! The only thing I will probably change next time is the ganache. Even though I like semisweet chocolate and used the Ghirardelli chips that you showed in your written recipe, it just tasted a little too bitter even though I didn’t use the espresso. So I may do 1/2 milk chocolate chips next time or a different topping altogether. The cake was 100% a winner though!

Hi JK! Yep, I usually ad a TB of oil to my butter cakes for the added moisture! I am glad you mixed by hand, sometimes the mixer over glutens a cake-I learned that from you!

John this look delicious. I saw German and Russian buttercream recently. I would love to see a video of you making these buttercreams. I've never heard of those before.
Love that there is no need to cream the butter (or use a mixer for that matter). One of the easiest recipes I've ever witnessed.
