I've been using brass dome a lot for years even before the buff just for the crit protection and honestly, if you want to die less and you can put in a brass dome, it's almost always the best choice. Unless you're getting 100% reduced crit damage or very close to it from other sources (not the pantheon) like the skilltree and maybe a chest corruption, but that's usually a very late build min-max thing.
Crits are just THAT powerful, unless you have a consistent protection against them or you're really limiting yourself on the content you do, you WILL get oneshot sniped by a crit every couple maps.
This league it's possible to hit gain crit immunity just from your shield piece (60% base mod + 40% crucible tree mod)
Are we forgetting the best wombo combo, Viridi's Veil + Magic ring left slot = immune to crit.
@@sn1kzZe Definitely a very strong combo to minimize damage taken and a good one to have in the back of your mind, but very expensive in terms of gear slots.
Rares are miles better than Brass Dome and it isn't even close. You can craft a colored 6-link with over 2k armor or armor and life, 6+ mana reservation, % reduced phys, the gravicius "6% taken as fire/light" craft, then throw the cheap embers and ichors to hit 20% determination effect and +1 all max resist (which includes chaos, btw) for around 5 divines. This absolutely blows away brass dome.
The mana reservation allows you to run another offensive aura once you drop purity of elements/tempest shield, for example Aspect of the Spider for a big more multiplier. I run Determination, Malevolence, Skitterbots, and Aspect of the Spider. Get shock immune from other gear, like an abyssal belt + abyssal jewel easily.
Physical damage taken as fire/lightning is also a massive defensive layer when you have such high armor. 20%+ determination effect adds a ton of armor.
I've managed to scrounge together 100% crit dmg reduction on my trickster at the moment. I run an impossible escape onto the Glancing Blows node so I can grab sanctum of thought (bonus points to also grab the block node + tireless), my shield has 40% reduced damage from crit (at the expense of 100% inc crit chance against me), and I'm also grabbing the critical mastery for 30% reduced extra damage. All that up is 100% reduced extra damage, meaning the inc crit chance against me doesn't matter. Biggest hurdle is the impossible escape being a hefty price, but even the crit mastery + an abyss jewel in a stygian can equal 50%, the shield node would bump that to 90%, which means the only real problem then is really high multi map mods, otherwise crits wouldn't as much.
i think forth Vow can outshine brass dome even on jugg if you optimize your gear around it ( helmet phys taken as chaos, shiled corruption phy taken as chaos , and a watchers eye for purity of elements physical taken as elemental + divine flesh)
Brass Dome is definitely the best Defensive option, no question there. If you're delving or doing Simulacrums, it's probably the best. I think Fourth Vow could be a good choice if you get EB on a weapon or play EB/MoM Inquisitor RF, but it's probably worse than Rares and BD.
The biggest advantage that Rares have over BD/FV is Mana Reservation and the Life Mastery. It's better to take the Life Mastery for 15% inc max life and get good Armour prefixes than invest a bunch into life (unless your gear is particularly jank). For the same price as a Guatelitzi 19% inc max life + 120 max life chest you can easily get 3k armor + life mastery + gravicious craft, which is similar if not better tankiness, depending on your setup.
Getting 7-10% Mana Reservation Efficiency on a Rare is where the money really starts to roll in. You can pretty easily fit Malevolence, Determination, Skitterbots, and Aspect of the Spider/Herald of Ash with the mana mastery, chest mod, Sovereignty wheel, and a level 3/4 Empower, and still allow Whispers of Doom anoint instead of Charisma. That's a 25-30% damage increase that's almost impossible with a non-rare Body Armour. At the higher levels of optimization, especially if you're an Inquis or take the Armour/ES + Energized Armour combo, I don't think you can really beat a Rare Body Armour, at least in Softcore Trade.
forth vow is good if you are using divine flesh, just have to make sure chaos res is max and buffed over the 75%, just stack more armor on your hem,gloves and boots, plus a high armor shield
Idk, some people (exemple poxh) use the 10% armor applies to chaos masteries with same setup, and go to rare

Fourth Vow is good against chaos/ele hits with certain combinations and is a good entrance chest, since it's not as expensive as a good brass dome.
But i'm feeling the random high crits since i'm in higher content xD

i used a +1 vaal skill chest when i last played rf for that extra deeps as i felt tanky enough and generally don't facetank stuff i can easy avoid. but i also got really unlucky with helmet craft so i never could make a +7 helmet for rf and had to use firetrap for that one
Cloak of Flame is a really strong alternative to Lightning Coil. It is straight up better for builds abusing Bloodnotch, the evasion on Coil is a net negative for these builds since it reduces your Flaggelant flask recovery. But Cloak also protects against dots, and phys dots can be quite strong, and it doesn't have a life mod so it lets you spend a passive for 15% life at the cost of 60 life. I invested in getting a second phys->ele conversion mod on my Watcher's Eye to upgrade from Lightning Coil to Cloak of flame on a Doomfinder this league and it has been a huge upgrade, since dots are really the only scary thing in the game if you're using Bloodnotch.
Well not far off from 20% it has are well rolled rares imo where you can get 12% and other useful mods hmm...
@@pozytywniezakrecony151 Tbf you can get +4 gem levels on a cloak/coil, or +1 socketed 50% damage for Aura stacking. There is definitely an option for a 20% phys->ele elevated influenced chest and you can make up the phys->ele elsewhere if you have say a shield for example.
@@Sidnv i run bow char and had some issues with Phys so capped it a bit when I want with rare chest plus pyroshock belt as I shoot manaforged ls and burning arrow. Added determination and Phys to cold flask and it's quite good.
@@pozytywniezakrecony151 That does seem solid as well. There are lots of good ways to mitigate defense (other than the standard determ + grace setup). It sounds like you found a good one.
I started out with Brass Dome, it's a really nice chest and I frankly can't afford one of those 100+ div rare chests.
But at some point I tried out a Carcass Jack, started with a reduced crit dmg taken one but very quickly realized I was being a dum-dum for not grabbing a +1 skill gems one so I grabbed one of those instead and I haven't looked back. The massive increase in RF radius and also damage (+1 skills and the AOE dmg is over +300k to RF) just means Carcass has become my go to because even if the risk of death is higher the clear is just soo much better.
Thanks for the input! IM currently running rare Glorious Plate with 2.4k total armour. Luckily, I was able to corrupt my Saffles with 30% reduced damage from crit damage implicit. Got another 30% from the tree and the rest from Watcher's eye for 100% crit immune. Mapping is now awesome especially after buying Oriath's End.
What about Divine Flesh + corrupted Fourth Vow with '50% reduced damage from critical strikes' + 30% reduced damage from crit from armor mastery ? Surely this would beat out Brass Dome ?
I stick to bass dome for crit immune as I'm running logbooks and most of the time monsters always crit in those. Another factor to consider is brass dome is quite a popular item ppl would double corrupt, ull have an easier time to find +4 socketed gems brass dome when min maxing.

@@potworzgo ya thats about the price, abit more expansive than last league tho. I got mine at 150div last league at around the same time after league start. But ull never find a +4 rare chest piece for rf, not in temp league at least.
Honestly what i learned playing this game is no matter how tanky you are you gonna die if u dont move for 2 seconds yes it will help and you need some defense but movement and dps is ur best defense
Best RF Jugg chest is a Glorious Plate with Deafening Essence of Loathing Mana Reserve, T1 Chaos Res and T1 Phys Reduction, then Eldritched to take it to 3500 raw armour and crafted 6% Phys as Fire and Lightning
All the Uniques are bait because they are all weaker than the (fairly easily) crafted option.
im using a 6 linked forth vow on an armor stacker, i can tank most bosses slam, but it still feel kinda meh on maps, for bossfight it does perform surprisingly well

Just use a solid 3k armor rare armor instead, you then can have hp and resistances. it's not cheap obviously, and you would need to invest in crit dmg reduction in the skill tree, but that's a solid well rounded option
Getting corrupted brass dome with +2 to duration/aoe gems is a good idea too, its about 1 div for 4 max res roll and another 0,5-1div to 6 link it yourself with tainted jewellers and fusings and You end up with +2 levels to firetrap from it
how far down in delve did you get?? Brass dome has always been about max defense, and for the delving build...
I'm a big fan of sporeguard. nearly no one uses it. you get 10% less damage taken while stationary and you can annoint it and explody helps with clear.
I dont know if anyone else mentioned it or not, but brass dome and the 15% life if no life modifier on armor are a match made in heaven.

The best chest piece if you're cheap and don't like paying for things. Put RF in a helmet with conc effect and burning dmg. Get a Kaom's Heart for maybe 15c for 30% more burning dmg and 500+ life.
increases =/= more, increased like Kaom's has is additive whereas more is multiplicative.
Kaom's Heart is literally worthles snow. You get close to 500 hp from the new passive which Kaom's Heart doesnt let you get. So you get all its downsides for a moderate fire damage mod. Just awful.
I am playing brass dome, petrified blood with unreserved 2,5k life, 135k armor 86 ele/79 chaos res and cant die in maps though have to pay attention in big bosses. No divine flesh or dmg taken conversions. Still working on double corrupt brass dome on the side, bricked 3 so far.
I'm on console so im a bit behind but Gwinn gave me a +1 to socketed support gems on an armor base early so that's what I've been playing with until I can upgrade to a brass dome. Gotta say getting extra elle ress is real easy this league .
Any thoughts on Blunderbore? no life tag so you can take the mastery, and then you get Massive and Brutal Shrines
Brass dome disables the str bonuses to health and allows you to load up on tattoos to max out your chaos res, more armor and more life.

What about lightning coil and getting 100% Phys as ele and just stacking as much armour elsewhere and melding with either aegis or that other shield that ads max res?
Fourth vow requires divine flesh, get TJs that have nodes with 35%+ armor, there's also nodes for +max chaos res.

I've done some very odd things with my fireball build for armor.
Wouldn't fourth vow be much better if you also had +3% max chaos on the shield? Obviously would be annoyingly expensive to craft
Kaoms heart not even being considered? I had 8.5k hp and 70k armor with a kaoms. Not to mention built in dps boost from massive life scaling and 40% fire dmg.

I prefer not to use Brass Dome. In fact, I have it and I instead use Rare with life + max armour + phys dmg reduced + chaos + life regeneration (Yes, I managed to craft it) and I am currently working on making it +3 max fire and farming for the jewel for max res to have 90% all without purity of fire. I am SSF so it's not easy to craft the gear, but as I play 1 build and attempt to max it out on SSF as goal each league it's amusing.
Most of the time on rf jugg I think basically all the time I’m dying to phys damage. I got 33 divines in my stash so I’m not sure if I should invest into my current rf jugg or not
Phys Damage is really easy to mitigate on an RF jugg, 50k+ armour and 4k+ unreserved life is really all you should need. With 33div in stash you can get well beyond that
Investing into it's obviously up to you, but I would certainly go farther than the "dying to phys damage" stage of Juggin'.
Can't you just get crit reduction elsewhere for reasonable opportunity cost? Seems like 4th vow is the best min-max solution.
You should be going for a lot of phys taken as X anyway, thus making the hits you take smaller - which in turn makes your armor exponentially (yes, exponentially) more effective.
Brass dome's crit reduction is very good for mapping but you can circumvent this.
I can explain it. Chaos damage is over all less from base hits compared to elemental hits. The amount of chaos you are seeing in the game is nothing compared to elemental and physical damage.
I would only use vow in places like deep delve. And then I would also try to take elemental damage as Chaos with divine, then I would also use purities, all 3 if I could to up my elemental resistance.
Vow is a really interesting and niece item.
I had Divine Flesh for all the tests, so Vow was quite effective vs elemental damage.
Did you test vow with divine flesh ? Or by its self?
I was using Divine Flesh for everything since on Jugg it feels too powerful to not use.
I use flamability in skitterbots ring (im lazy) and 20% mana eff for determination on gloves so i can run all of it and not use charisma :D

Divine flesh is incredible to mitigate elemental damage
You need :
- Max chaos res
- masteries node "10% of Armor applies to chaos damage"
Its pretty incredible on jugg cause jugg stack Armor and already applies Armor to elemental, so basicaly divine flesh allow you to double mitigate elemental damage with armor
The bit I didn't understand until recently is that Armour effectiveness is based on the damage it's applied to.
e.g.
100,000 armour, 75% res
40,000 raw E damage * .25 = 10,000
10,000 damage = 50% armour reduction = 5,000 damage taken
But if it's split between ele & chaos:
5,000 E damage = 66.6% armour reduction = 1,666 E damage taken
5,000 C damage = 66.6% armour reduction = 1,666 C damage taken
= 3,332 dmg total
This is also why it's so important to get your resistances up, since they apply before armour reduction is determined.
90% Chaos res would result in
5,000 E damage = 66.6% armour reduction = 1,666 E damage taken
2,000 C damage = 83.3% armour reduction = 333 C damage taken
= 2,000 dmg total

BD was solid during the inquis melding days, it helped achieve HUGE defensives, but since the juggs armor - elemental dmg taken talents became more viable, its...just not too useful anymore, especially since the jugg has a huge amount of inherant regen, makes up for the loss of concecration
double gravecious craft on a rare chest with 2k+ armor on jugg is a better choice imo, esp with eel resistances and chaos res, and mana reservation efficiency
if you have 90% all resist and 5-6k hp it would be equivalent to someone having 12-15k hp and 75% resist, this sounds good while mapping but when you try to do uber bosses they all have a natural 8% penetration that messes up your calculations, ive seen even the best players done maths about how this boss should be doing 1k dmg tops and getting hit for 4-5k. So its something to take into account, wich favours builds with raw energy shield or life in big numbers im not RF but i play a blade trapper trickster with 15k energy shield in hardcore and i can do t16 unid rare maps with any affix combination opening fully charged crucibles. Ive tried brass dome before in other builds and i have to chicken out anytime i see -max resist and be very concern when enemies has some source of elemental penetration.
I'm not expert but if you don't show the stat o screenshot of the items is harder to me to understand you

Fourth Vow would have the best chance at that.
I managed to tank 3 balls in a row with fourth vow, at 82 fire res. Getting hit with all at once will kill you, so you should still move around or invest more into defences and have good uptime on fire flask+ignite immunity
Tbh brass dome is kinda subpar for the cost, a really well rolled rare with phys damage reduction mod is far cheaper

kinda dissagree brass dome is for sure bis when it comes to brass dome vs fourth vow, vow only really beats it vs some chaos damage bosses. (didnt even factor in the full crit immunity)
the "mini trancendance" jugg node is just way too good with high armour and high maxres and brass dome gives both.
id say its more like dawnbreaker vs saffell's for example my super shitty jugg with brass dome:

Brass Dome is good but it got done dirty by GGG with its life tag, so no 15% life passive.
thats not done dirty. If Brass Dome had that too it would be by far the best chest in the game. It still is very strong.
Prefer the old one. Its far stronger in standard than the new version even without max res just thanks to life.
Getting a rare that is better than brass dome is kinda hard. The 50+ divine chests can have many hit mods and chaos res/hp% amd hp regen... The difference in hit pool can be staggering with several hp mods. But the big hp mods on a proper crafted chest is sooo expensive. It takes me days to farm that currency. Brass dome took me like 2-3 hours farming without 5head strats and donations.
You're getting 500hp from the new Passive. So its easy as sin to craft a rare thats better than Brass Dome. Glorious Plate with 3500 armour, 8% phys reduction, 35% chaos, 30% Determination or Malevolence and +2 or +3 all resists is doable for well under 8 div. Or buyable for under 20 div.

Because its completely worthless when the new passive gives you nearly 500hp in basic gear. Koam's heart has a life mod, so cant use the passive and still has its huge downside of no sockets.

Brass dome is just easy and affordable way to increase your survivalability by an order of magnitude. It packs 4000 armor which goes well with Jugg's ascendancy notable (that doubles it), it provides crit protection which is main source of oneshots in the game (most monsters have 200% or bigger crit multiplier, this can be further boosted by map mods) and gives some max resist to boot. You don't even have to buy a +5%. Buy any and upgrade to +5 when you're ready to ditch Saffel's Frame for a strong DPS oriented shield.
You're in for a bargain, you're paying 3-4 divines for six-linked 3-4 resist version that provides the power of 40+ divine craft. If not more. If you want to take your RF to high budget then sure you will find upgrades over Brass Dome. But that will come much later in your character's development. This item is one of the first you buy (after Maven boots and basic other gear)
Exactly. Vow is less than 1/3 the armor of Dome while being extra reliant on it to mitigate all forms of damage from hits. +3% life regeneration is a wash against +5% all res for the RF degen that's always happening. The -90ish life hit from no life bonus from strength kind of sucks, but you save on 3 passive points needed to make Vow even work. That leaves a handful of ES (useless with RF) and bonus resistance to chaos damage (both from the additional flat % and the special armor interaction) against crit immunity. Like you said, enemy crit is extremely dangerous, much more so than chaos hits, so the choice is pretty clear

dont be jugg to begin with go chieftain , much better dmg much easier to set up melding , far more trusted endurance charge regen mecanic, u need unbreakable ? , forbidden jewel it , i use a 3k armour chest , with +2 max fire ress , and 30% determination effect , lost of hp and stat fixing on it , brass dome + max ress is simply not worth it since u can get a shield with "+4 max fire res -2max light ress", ez 90 max ress,
i run all maps unless they have "no regen" mod (yes thanks to chieftain fire leech ,and crazy hp regen nodes ,i can even run -max ress and less life recovery maps), never died from 96 to 100 ,not to normal mobs not to fully juiced expedition mobs ,
