Aw, Jen one of the reasons I'm always in awe and proud of what you do is because like you I am a nervous person and am so amazed how well you do despite it. I remember my first car bump, coping till I got home then burst into tears to my mum and dad. Horrible feeling that nearly everyone goes through driving x
@@melodypugh5971 thank you girly, it’s horrible being so anxious, in a way this job helps because it distracts me from my normal anxiety (of just worrying about everything) and replaces it with ‘real’ anxiety (worrying about keeping everyone safe etc) haha so it helps in a weird way because the anxiety is no longer irrational

I tell you something im a 48yr old male & the footage of you crying brought tears to my eyes. I remember many years ago i was on a 3 month probation period with a company desperate for a full-time job & i had a bump. I felt everybit as bad as you & was panicking like crazy about not getting the job. Told the company straight away & they weren't overly worried. I beat myself up for days after which is worse than anything the company could ever do. I soon learned that no matter what job you do we will always make mistakes. When you drive for a living the chances are it will be a bump or something. The most important advice i can give you is never worry about situations like this if its not being caused by you. Yes there were trucks waiting but it was the other driver causing the issues but that caused you to worry & thats when things go wrong. The other guy is obviously only paying attention to himself as he failed to see he'd been hit. Keep your chin up i hate to say it but it probably wont be your last incident. Hi Jen, I have been driving for over 40 years, all over UK and Europe , done long wide and still on heavy loads, and yes I have had bumps I expect I will have more, I dont want too, but if you think in a single mile you drive the countless opportunities there are to make a mistake and clip a curb, catch a sign miss a guard rail, theres thousands of chances in a single mile to damage your truck and we havent even started on other road users and the hazards you have to actively avoid. Look how many miles you have driven without damaging anything, a few yards and a look in the wrong mirror doesnt make you a bad driver. The many many miles you have done safely is what you should remember. My only advice would be, in the situation you were in. If you are not 100% confident that you could get through dont do it - do not feel pressured because theres trucks queuing behind you, your the boss of your truck, you make the decisions and if your not happy dont do it. Remember those 1000's of chances every mile to damage your truck that you didnt ,not the 20 yards you did. Bumps happen to everyone
You know that the most important thing is that no one was hurt. Damage to the trailer can be repaired. I've been driving busses for 25 years and I've also had a few bumps in the years.

Hi Jen, yes it’s happened to me I’ve had a little bump when I first started but this is how we learn to become better. Don’t be so hard on yourself you’re doing a fantastic job! 👍🏻
When I first started driving as a new driver on my own, I backed into the minivan of the manager of the warehouse and crushed it. He was not upset at all. I think he hated that thing and was happy about it because I remember he had a smile on his face. He told me not to worry about it, and I never said a word to my fleet manager about it, and I never received a call about it from my fleet manager.
Remember you’re only human like the rest of us,you will make mistakes like we all do. For me there’s 2 types,1 who makes mistakes and those who are bloody liars! I’d been driving for 3 years, had a major head -on RTC,my fault but the owner of the company was good about it,went to court, got done and the asked if it’d stop me advancing in the company?.. he said no why?,I said I wanted to go into European work and lo and behold on the Monday morning I was on my way to Denmark and still doing it 30yrs later.. You live and learn by your mistakes and your doing great,I’d have loved to have had the balls to do what you’ve done when I was younger. You’re an inspiration!
It's completely normal to have mishaps as a beginner and you can rest assured you clearly have a good boss who understands that everyone makes mistakes be proud of how you tried to deal with it
Stop beating yourself up !! These things happen and will happen.Your doing great. Keep asking for help, 99.9% of drivers will be more than happy to see you right and go with your gut feeling and don't feel pressured by anyone, take your time 😊
Anybody can make a mistake (said the dalek climbing off a dustbin 😁) Seriously though, you live and learn. 20 years in and just today, I missed the pin backing up to the trailer. Fortunately no damage, the strap box on the catwalk saved me.
I drove trucks in the UK for 10 years. I had 2 accidents. It happens. Just take your time and realise it’s part of the learning curve. What does not kill you makes you stronger. Be resilient and just learn from it.
Don't worry about the accident, because your first two years are your hardest years out of your first five years. This is where you learn about yourself and about your driving ability, so continue to learn. Always be a learner, no matter how many years you have. Even if you have 40 years of experience, always be willing to learn. When you feel you know everything there is to driving, it's time to retire because you're an accident waiting to happen at that point.
Keep things in perspective and remember humans make mistakes…. You are going to make a great lorry driver and just think of the great adventures you are having 💯🇬🇧👍
A fairly bog standard bump in the line of duty it will be the first of many to happen over the years. Compared to some of the accidents drivers at our company have had over the years that's nothing. Someone wiping out the side of the trailer and a couple of wheels on a French peage springs to mind.
Oh dear should of been watching your mirrors..got to be vigilant all the time…it’s a steep learning curve is trucking..you will learn from this and it will turn you into a good driver, all the best to you Jen…🙏⭐️👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🚛
I used to do the job you did in the UK (trade plate driver). In a yard in South London (I'm not going to name the firm, as Dees of Croydon may not like it), I managed to reverse 1 brand-new unregistered Mondeo into another. So 2 written-off Mondeos. It happens, the miles you drive, the situations you get into, doesn't matter how competent you are, or how experienced you are, you will have a prang. It's good you've lost your virginity in a low-speed kiss-and-cuddle than leaving bits of Fruehauf trailer or Kenworth lorry all over an interstate. And you're safe. Love the videos and keep on truckin' :)
Listen to Mum Jen they always know best 👍 we'll all have a mistake at some point in our careers so don't beat yaself up, I know you will but don't 😆 in all fairness amazon was involved the absolute scourge of the industry out here and to be avoid at all costs, keep on truckin Flower ya doing great 👍
bumps and bangs happen to us all pal believe me lol!! only had class 1 for 7 years..few lil bumps 😂 as long as your honest, report it and accept it..your bosses be sound! keep smiling mate 👍👍
really enjoyed seeing the manoeuvring in this video, Thanks Jenn Edit: bless your heart Jenn, we all made mistakes, i wrote off a pickup truck in a services on the M25, someone was reversing in to me so without even thinking i slammed mine in reverse and floored it. At the time i thought that was it, i'm crap and i should quit. A week later i was making jokes about it, all it did was hurt my ego a bit and made me not run before i could walk. Going over the UK is bad enough but going all over North America things like this are going to happen. YOU CAN FIX METAL & PLASTIC. YOU CAN'T FIX BONE AND SKIN!!!!!!!!! Also don't be worried about showing emotion, my first accident had me crying, a 20 stone 6ft bloke, it was because i'd put years in to thinking this was my job for life and Harts Haulage in Cornwall (my dream company as a kid) gave me a chance and i had messed it up and caved in the back of there 2 month old 4 axle low loader trailer that costs more than a unit, honestly they didn't care, they said its what insurance is for 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Two words, Character building 🤣
Hi jen am a lorry driver of 50 year you have a little tap because of someone else selfness ,it happens to use all keep trucking you doing fantastic job 😀 👍
Hi, do not worried because that normal happen to every new driver make mistake. It happened to me as well. I am a class 1 driver from the UK. I do understand you don't want to lose a job but your manager the expect new drivers do make mistake but do not make too many and you should be fine
I have been a truck driver for almost 2 years now, and I have sure damaged litle bits like a light or hit another truck whit my trailer, but as long as u straight up is calling your dispatcher/boss then everything will be good. But if u dont then u could be fired if this happens a lot, but say it happens maybe 3 or 4 times a year then no problem
You are always going to have your first bump. You will remember it forever and you won’t do it again. At least it was only a nudge. I took out a fuel pump, fuel everywhere!
Jen, that's just a scratch! I'd been driving 6 months when I was delivering sand to a golf course in an articulated tipper, uneven ground, rolled it on its side and crushed a car, written warning!
Everyone makes mistakes, it how we lean from them that counts. You’re doing fantastically so don’t worry….. every driver has “bumps” , some wise words from your mum 👍🏻
Trust me ive been doing this for 30yrs.Bumps happen. its easy to say when youve been doing as long as some of us have but the worse thing you can do is stress about it. Nobody got hurt just let the insurance companies argue over it that what we pay the premiums for.
@@THEREALTICKLEMYELMO that is incredible to hear and makes me so happy! Thank you so much and best of luck, remember, never ever give up, you got this!! Please keep me updated on how it all goes!
Jennifer whats preference when driving the truck. The stick shift or the automatic? One time I was at a stop and getting ready to leave.. I head pushed my ramp in, closed my trailer doors and walk to the truck. In the meantime a car had parked behind me and I didn't see it. So I start to back out and pushed the car with my trailer all the way out to the road. I just happen to see the corner of the trunk from the car pop out from behind the trailer... The owners of car were pretty good about it... They acknowledged that it was their fault for parking behind me.... It happens... Don't sweat the small stuff.
Wow thanks so much for sharing that Angelique, your heart must've been in your stomach at the time but I guess so long as everyone is safe the small stuff doesn't matter so much in the long run!
@@jenniferwinters Well first a swear word came out of my mouth... LOL! Then my heart sunk.. Overtime you just realize that shit happens.. You take pictures, exchange information, fill out an incident report and carry on. When you complete those challenging trips successfully, that one little incident will be overshadowed and will become a distant memory. Keep up the great work.. Maybe you'll get a load to the maritimes some day..
Cheap wireless back up camera on a magnet/sucker/clamp, stuck on the blindside front of the trailer looking back connected to your fone/tablet. I did this for a driver on a w⚓️y site where we were down a long track with wrongside tight corners. Ive seen a tractor guy do similar in tight farms with too big of a silage trailer for the job really. The best of us have all broken something, as others have said, own up, own it, shit happens, put it in the book of life, and move on.
The driver that blocked everyone, potentially didn’t do any inspections before he set off - I’m unsure if you need to or not. You have to make mistakes in order to learn lessons… we’ve all done it in every walk of life! Not all of us own up to them though haha 😱… love you Jen … and very proud of you xxx
Bumps and Bangs happen to us all Jen don't worry about it Drive. I will tell you a story of the day in the life of one guy who had been driving for 30 years 15 class 2 then 15 class 1. He ripped down a brand new iron fence with a trailer in the morning at a drop. Then when he got back to the yard in the afternoon he ripped the front off a brand new Mercedes unit that was parked next to me. Even the experienced guys have those days don't beat yourself up Drive it happens to us all :)
When you take pictures always try to get the license plate or trailer number and company name of the other vehicle and if possible try to get the other driver in the background When i started too many years ago than I want to remember I used to carry hanging meat on one occasion I unloaded and was told to pull off the dock they hadn't disconnected the bars that the meat runs on from the trailer and I didn't check i pulled about 20ft of bars out the factory. That's just 1 of many funny incidents I can remember. In a few years time you'll be looking back and laughing about it.
Hi Jennifer. Whilst I am not a truck driver (retired Marine Engineer) I am following your story with great interest. I cannot fail to notice that your driver's seat really needs a cover or even a repair ?
Congratulations, you just got your first 'incident' out of the way. I drove trucks for ten years in NZ and I had my fair share of 'mishaps'. The only thing you can do is try to keep them to a minimum. EVERYBODY has their day. Some more than others. You just learn from it.
has your company got any merch to give you so you can give it away on your patreon to support your channel? I've crashed trucks a few times. It happens. I've driven a truck into ditch a few months ago. It was overgrown with bushes and I never saw it while letting an oncoming car pass me. Crashing is not the end especially when you have all of the other good attributes going for you. If you were late every day, bad time keeping, bad attitude, calling in sick every five minutes, you know, stuff that doesn't do the reputation of the company you work for any favours, then that's a bigger problem. Relax. I learned that I shouldn't move out of the way for cars on tight roads; I can pull a car out of a ditch, a car has zero chance of pulling my truck out of a ditch.
Wow girl you really need to chill. Shit happens to us all. Amazon drivers are the scum of the earth. Welcome to the real world. Keep on trucking🏴🇨🇦
Hi Jen in six months time your little mishap will be a distant memory and maybe when you're reminiscing you will just laugh about it. Manitoba Oh boy that's a cold cold place it gets into -40 that's on a good day, I was there with the British Army training for winter warfare. Safe Trucking❤
I think I felt it really badly because I'd put so much effort into moving to canada, getting my licence and finding a job and I was so worried I'd jeopardised all my hard work with one accident as my probationary period wasn't finish yet, but I'm happy it all worked out in the end :)
Also, your mum is spot on great words. These drivers that just abandon their trucks are why we have accidents. He parked in a spot, and this would have never happened. Keep up the good work. Learning every day that why we love this job.
@@xrider3732funnily enough nothing related to trucking really 🤣 I do watch Happiness by the Mile, Alex Nino, Lena Trucker and Jemma sometimes but other than that I like to switch off from trucking and watch Novympia, Rachael Maksy and NerdForge 😁

Hi Young lady I am new to your channel I watched your video last night as someone not as a truck driver but work round them daily you will not the first person who is going have a accident who is a new driver you did the thing by taking pictures and reporting it to the people . I would probably buy three cheap usb member sticks from best buy . Please don’t beat yourself up over it . Keep the amazing work 🫶🏻🫶🏻🇬🇧
Thats a serious bit of damage to the trailer, rubbing rail completely broken, thats a structural part for trailer strength, its not going to be a cheap fix, dont beat yourself up over it but you should have seen that you were getting close in your drivers side mirrors, i did something similar on a uk curtainsider pulling out of a yard but it was on my blindside and i think the front n/s corner i clipped was caused by the other driver edging forward as i pulled around him, but i took the blame, shit happens, your biggest mistake was letting the amazon idiot ruin your day, i know its a horrible gut feeling but in my 52 years driving hgvs i can count 5 times its happened to me, always blindside n/s, so welcome to the club,. cheers ,.

Ahh cool a fellow tradie! Thanks so much for the wonderful words buddy I really appreciate it :)
Listen to Mum Jen they always know best 👍 we'll all have a mistake at some point in our careers so don't beat yaself up, I know you will but don't 😆 in all fairness amazon was involved the absolute scourge of the industry out here and to be avoid at all costs, keep on truckin Flower ya doing great 👍
bumps and bangs happen to us all pal believe me lol!! only had class 1 for 7 years..few lil bumps 😂
as long as your honest, report it and accept it..your bosses be sound!
keep smiling mate 👍👍
really enjoyed seeing the manoeuvring in this video, Thanks Jenn
Edit: bless your heart Jenn, we all made mistakes, i wrote off a pickup truck in a services on the M25, someone was reversing in to me so without even thinking i slammed mine in reverse and floored it.
Also don't be worried about showing emotion, my first accident had me crying, a 20 stone 6ft bloke, it was because i'd put years in to thinking this was my job for life and Harts Haulage in Cornwall (my dream company as a kid) gave me a chance and i had messed it up and caved in the back of there 2 month old 4 axle low loader trailer that costs more than a unit, honestly they didn't care, they said its what insurance is for 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Two words, Character building 🤣
having read this back i am awful at getting my point across, hopefully you know what i mean lol
Hi jen am a lorry driver of 50 year you have a little tap because of someone else selfness ,it happens to use all keep trucking you doing fantastic job 😀 👍
I love my job don't worry 😢 it happens all the time for the first 6 mth
Nobody got hurt just let the insurance companies argue over it that what we pay the premiums for.
hey jen, got inspired by you, have my first day of yard training tomorrow, super nervous.. hopefully it goes well
@@THEREALTICKLEMYELMO that is incredible to hear and makes me so happy!
I'm surprised the owner of the vehicle didn't blame you like most of them do.
Definitely! And Amazon says it all
I was taught never trust your helpers when backing up because they don't know where to stand to help you.
How cool is your mam......love her ❤❤.
Cool shirt in the beginning of this video.
@@AllThingsTrucking_ETS that actually makes me feel a lot better thanks buddy 🤣
@ glad I could help hehe
Everybody messes up from time to time. I was always told the only people that dont break anything are those that dont do anything.
My dream job is exactly the same but I don't have the guts or know how to do it accidents happen we all do them hun chin up x
When you take pictures always try to get the license plate or trailer number and company name of the other vehicle and if possible try to get the other driver in the background
When i started too many years ago than I want to remember I used to carry hanging meat on one occasion I unloaded and was told to pull off the dock they hadn't disconnected the bars that the meat runs on from the trailer and I didn't check i pulled about 20ft of bars out the factory.
Chin up Jen , accidents happen in life, you’re doing great , he shouldn’t have blocked the traffic like he did ,
Congratulations, you just got your first 'incident' out of the way. I drove trucks for ten years in NZ and I had my fair share of 'mishaps'. The only thing you can do is try to keep them to a minimum. EVERYBODY has their day. Some more than others. You just learn from it.
Shit Happens it’s apart of life Jen,Dust ya self off ,Tomorrow’s another day 👍😉💪❤️
has your company got any merch to give you so you can give it away on your patreon to support your channel?
Backing up accident is the absolute worst.
Won't be the last time it happens, don't be so hard on yourself..
Learning every day that why we love this job.
get you a printer for the truck so you wouldn't need to find a Staples or such to print off stuff
Accidents happen, don't sweat it.
As soon as you said it was an Amazon truck said it all ! You'd of had the same problem with them if you'd stayed in the UK
Just wondering which TH-cam channels you like to follow.
@@xrider3732funnily enough nothing related to trucking really 🤣 I do watch Happiness by the Mile, Alex Nino, Lena Trucker and Jemma sometimes but other than that I like to switch off from trucking and watch Novympia, Rachael Maksy and NerdForge 😁
, why the tiny screen, can't see much. Love your vlog tho
@@paulcox4079 I’m not sure what you mean Paul, I think it’s your TH-cam settings because the screen isn’t tiny 🤣
@jenniferwinters at the start of the video it's like a letter box view. It doesn't matter still a great video.
Jennifer II believe he shook his head at you because he is used to truck drivers not being kind like that. Usually truck drivers would have cut the vehicle off and kept going without a care in the world.
Sh*t happens Jen , the sheer amount of time a trucker spends on the road it's inevitable these things happen.
Hi Young lady I am new to your channel I watched your video last night as someone not as a truck driver but work round them daily you will not the first person who is going have a accident who is a new driver you did the thing by taking pictures and reporting it to the people . The any thing I would do in future if there CCTV cameras around go ask for footage then you got evidence recorded and proof accident wasn’t your fault . I would probably buy three cheap usb member sticks from best buy . Please don’t beat yourself up over it . Keep the amazing work 🫶🏻🫶🏻🇬🇧
Your very first what?
Thats a serious bit of damage to the trailer, rubbing rail completely broken, thats a structural part for trailer strength, its not going to be a cheap fix, dont beat yourself up over it but you should have seen that you were getting close in your drivers side mirrors, i did something similar on a uk curtainsider pulling out of a yard but it was on my blindside and i think the front n/s corner i clipped was caused by the other driver edging forward as i pulled around him, but i took the blame, shit happens, your biggest mistake was letting the amazon idiot ruin your day, i know its a horrible gut feeling but in my 52 years driving hgvs i can count 5 times its happened to me, always blindside n/s, so welcome to the club,. cheers ,.
Hi jen I'm a class 1 driver in West Yorkshire how much did it cost you for the flight and accommodation etc thanks
Took plenty of bumper's off as people parked in wrong place like on corner's
