The buddy system is the best thing you can ever do! Highly recommend. I'm super shy but every semester on the first day of classes I make it a priority to talk to someone and try to become buddies. It has helped me get study guides (you will be surprised how many people have study guides or notes from someone else that already took the class), reminders to do assignments, and it's nice to feel like you have someone to help you survive the semester!
You're so right, making connections is super important. I recommend going to your professor's office hours and just talking to them and getting to know them, maybe have a few questions prepared. It's always good to have relationships with your professors so you can find out about opportunities and also get recommendation letters!
First tip is correct. During high school i studied my notes everyday after note taking and i got a 100 on exam. I didnt do this until half way through school year because i wasn't satisfied with where my current grade was and make sure to see teacher for help and prepare any questions that u dont know only if u tried everything and couldn't figure it out.
Yup! My professor gave an automatic F to students in my class who used that trick. It made it impossible for them to finish with anything higher than a C the rest of the semester. Not worth it for sure!
If it's a physical paper, you're probably okay if it's not an English teacher, but if you have to turn it online via email, turnitin.com, etc., they'll for sure notice.
I agree, professors notice and it's pretty much straight up cheating so definitely not worth getting in trouble with academic integrity. Just write the few extra words lol
This is probably actually the only college advice video that I have ever found helpful and trust me I have literally seen everything on TH-cam! Thanks dude, you just saved my life If you think of anything else, please help and make another video! Love you
I'm in my second year of college now and some of these hacks are about to save my year. Also, about the textbook hack, I would recommend trying to avoid buying them from your school bookstore! The differences between their prices and those on Amazon are sometimes massive.
Aww Lindsey, I love this video! I can tell that you genuinely liked to do this video and you were really yourself! Love you, and please please please keep doing videos like this.
Lindsey my first day of my freshman year of college is on Monday, this video could not have come at a better time!! Tips for studying and staying motivated to be your best self would be really helpful in the future :) xoxo
i love seeing you back on this channel looking more smiley than ever! im also going to buffer festival in Toronto so I hope to meet you there this fall!!!! can't wait!
THINGS NOT MENTIONED 🔸Don't change the font from 12 to 14! Professors grade hundreds of papers and they will notice!! Change it to 12.5. 🔸If you use EasyBib make sure to check that the website correctly cites your references cuz rules for citations change over time. Use Purdue OWL, you'll have to cite manually but they will most likely be correct. 🔸Your school will also most likely have a research database accessible to students via the library so you don't really have to use Google Scholar unless you HAVE to.
i'm out of college and not really interested in the video, but i'm here and giving it a thumbs up just to support you. what i mean by that is that many of us will always here for you because we love you and soon enough many more people will do too based on your new content
Amazon and chegg are the best for renting. I have never purchased a book full price. It's also smart to buy paper ( and not hardcover ) copies of books and when possible used . Amazon has so many of them.
I absolutely agree with the last tip. Networking is SOOOO important. Sometimes networking is how you get the career you want, and a degree may just be a formality.
I graduated from college almost 3 years ago why am I watching this. I will say to be careful about the period font change, some professors notice, and like the bibliography, it's easier to just write the paper the length it needs to be and to memorize the way to write the citations.
@ all the freshman people: This is so important, take notes of this!! Lol, but seriously as an older student myself, I totally 100% agree with everything she said. Another tip: Time managing is so important, try and figure out what schedule works best for you, make a plan and stick to it so you're always on top of the things. It will take a while to figure out what works the best for you as an individual but will make your life so much easier when it comes to studying, hanging out, having time to relax by yourself etc. :)
Universities usually have their own database of scholarly articles. Much better than google scholar, especially for the articles in journals that you need to pay for. You can usually find them in your school's database, and sometimes you can request/borrow them from other schools!
Google Docs is awesome. Even renting from Amazon will save you money. Sit near the front or you'll get distracted. I wouldn't do the period thing, they've caught on and now a lot of them notice it.
About books I have 3 tips that will save you SO much money: 1. NEVER buy books before the semester starts. The majority of my "mandatory" books were not ever needed and most teachers will tell you up front if you ask if you actually need them or not, or students will tell you. Unless there was legit homework from the book I almost never got it since I could get the info from Google and TH-cam way better and faster than from the book. 2. If you do need to buy a book NEVER buy it from the actual bookstore on campus. The markups on that are insane and you will rarely get any amount of decent money back. One trick they do is tell you you need the 3rd addition or something when in reality all they did was change a sentence or two and they only did it to charge more for that new addition. So buy everything from Amazon or wherever online. I've gotten books that, at the store, were 150 and I paid 30. 3. Try finding the PDF of the book online before you buy. Just google the title + author+ pdf to see if you can't find it. I've found a couple of books this way so my cost was 0 :)
Not even in college anymore but i love you so of course i'm going to watch but THESE ARE ACTUALLY A+ TIPS!! SUCH GOOD ADVICE!! Awesome video! & seriously these tips would've helped me so much freshman year. And frankly even senior year. I love you!!
Good video! I lost 15 lbs in my first year, because I always cooked for myself (and I'm whole food vegan). Then again, I was 28 and had been cooking for a few years before going to school...Freshman 15! lol
great tips! the only thing that i was thinking about that wasn't mentioned in this video (unless i accidentally skipped over it!) are time management tips (e.g. ical, google calendar, etc). using your time wisely because it's the shortest four years of your life. ill probably buy the book tbh looks so interesting!!!
As a fairly resent college grad (I graduated June of last year from Developmental Services Work) this video was and will be helpful to many Lindsey. Awesome work :)
Hey Lindsay! Thank you for this video! So extremely helpful as an incoming freshman! Could you make a video for shy people trying to make friends in class at college and how to non-awkwardly ask for someone's number or contact info so you can later connect and become friends or study with them especially if lecture is 500+ ppl?
Omg I loved this video! I'm a senior getting ready to go to college in a couple of months and I'm already freaked out about the whole thing lol but watching this gave me a lift, a little of the weight off the shoulders :)
As a college and masters graduate, these are solid tips especially the last one. You're gonna need a job but interning IS SO IMPORTANT. Fantastic, you have great grades like everyone else but work experience is invaluable. Please please please for anyone, intern the latest junior year in college.
It's not tedious to change your period font size. You just have to type control F and then type in "." And change it to 14. Takes 1 minute! Also easy bib is not reliable for bibliographies anymore. But there are other cites! I'm blanking on the one I use though 😓
I am a freshman for this spring semester and I start my first class monday. I will of course be using these hakes due to its my first time being away from home.
Google Drive is a life saver! And your first tip is something that I'm going to try so hard to work on because I didn't do it at all Freshman year and the week before an exam I would be slammed with a whole bunch of notes and it's so much harder to retain it all!

Class starts Monday. My life ends Monday
same omg
Dont do the period font change. Professors do notice. I got in trouble for that once
It's not noticeable if you look at it, so they only way someone would notice is if you emailed the paper to them instead of a hard paper copy
my english teacher noticed it and it was a physical copy. teachers are not dumb
I agree, professors notice and it's pretty much straight up cheating so definitely not worth getting in trouble with academic integrity. Just write the few extra words lol

Don't sell books from your major classes. You will definitely need them as a reference later on in your career.
Aww Lindsey, I love this video! I can tell that you genuinely liked to do this video and you were really yourself! Love you, and please please please keep doing videos like this.
Another life saver is quizlet!! The app is great for making flashcards or using already made flashcards!
Tessla P yes yes yes sometimes I'll look up a question there and the entire assignment is there
Omg some these hacks are so great that I didn't know and I'll definitely be using them especially since I'm going into my freshman year of college.
yay! best of luck to you :)) enjoy your freshman year!
Don't change any font. They will notice.
I can't thank you enough for the tips. You have encouraged me greatly to be more social and to get out my comfort zone!
This video came at the perfect time! Starting college next week and a little nervous. This really helped a lot. 💛 thanks, Lindsey.
Another tip with google drive is you can use it to store your important files like in case your external hard drive crashes or something!
another college hack is to put what you are looking for on google in quotation marks that helps so much.

her mirror looks kinda like a veil
This video is just in time! Tomorrow is my first day of University and I'm so excited (and scared). Thank you Lindsey ❤
Google Docs is awesome. Even renting from Amazon will save you money. Sit near the front or you'll get distracted. I wouldn't do the period thing, they've caught on and now a lot of them notice it.
Seriously! One of my teachers actually checks for that now and whoever she catches gets an automatic F. Sucks :(
Thank's for the tips ! I'm from France in my third year of college but I'll use your tips especially about Google drive ! Love you 😍🌻🌞
This is so helpful! My first day of college is tomorrow and I feel so prepared with these tips, thank you! :)
