    Great video, thanks for not spoiling it with music.

    You have to approach these from the front due to the rotor angling down to the side and the fins on the back. Notice how the pilot lands with the maintenance/fuel guy at the nose at 6:12 .

    What a wonderful little helicopter. You wouldn't think that this would be cost effective but amazing to watch, none the less.

    Wonderful video of an awesome machine. What's just as amazing is someone paying two to three thousand dollars per hour for tree removal and that doesn't include the guys on the ground. The price per room for the hotel must be astronomical as it seems they are the ones paying for the logging. But I thank you for the video and it was enjoyable.

    The American made Kaman K-MAX is a great utility helicopter with a max external load capacity of 2,700 kg.
    (In comparison, the Russian Ka-32 BC11 & A12 has a max external load capacity of 5.000 kg, also an aircraft employing contra-rotating rotors via twin coaxial rotor masts, as opposed to the K-MAX's twin intermeshing rotors).

    • @anibler
      @anibler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but the KMAX is a much smaller aircraft, only weighing 2300kg, and able to lift 2700kg. The KA-32 weighs 6600kg.

  • @charliemarren8724
    @charliemarren8724 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Correct. The reason the K-Max is much more quite then most helicopters is because it has no tail rotor blades. The tail rotor makes most of the noise on helicopters.

    • @eds6889
      @eds6889 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Charlie Marren ... almost correct, it’s the sound waves from the main rotor and tail rotor interacting that makes the higher levels of noise. Main rotor blade tips also make a lot of noise and are being designed to not have the same vortices.

    Those are called Fletner Flaps or Servo Tab (check wikipedia)
    they are used to actually control the helicopter and not as TheBreacherAngi1993 said to reduce the sound.

    briansmobile1 It's standard practice with most helicopters (not just this one) to approach from the front (so the pilot sees you). This one it's just especially important to not come from the side because you might get your head taken off, but probably significantly less dangerous to approach from the back than other helicopters, as there is no tail rotor (only a rudder flap which is unlikely to injure you).

    how well can these things autorotate? and how easy can you get into settling with power?

    • @SoftwareExplorer
      @SoftwareExplorer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to a document explaining the design from the manufacturer, these have blades with significantly higher inertia than most helicopters. That lets you store more energy in the rotor system during an autorotation, and gives the pilot a little bit more time to react in a loss of power situation.

    Der Kaman hat keinen frachtraum: es is ein purer fliegender krahn (und zimlich gefärlich fur das bodenpersonal wegen den tief herabragende rotor blätter), und seine nutzlasst is nur 2722kg am haken, der KA32 hebt 5000kg am haken und hat ein grosser frachtraum und hat so viele möglische verwendungen= diese 2 hélis sind gar nicht in der selbe kategorie...

    How does it turn left or right. It cant use the difference in rotor speeds.... so what?

    • @tazanteflight8670
      @tazanteflight8670 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tekrit3249 Like I said, you cant do that in a meshing rotor situation. They have to rotate at the same speed or they will collide. You cant input more energy into one, and not the other. There is some other system turning this helicopter.

    • @tazanteflight8670
      @tazanteflight8670 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tekrit3249 If that was true, the vehicle would roll, not yaw. You cant change the pitch on only one rotor, and not produce roll. You also cant increase pitch to increase drag,... without producing lift. Again,... you can NOT change individual rotor speed. So no,.. your theory isnt correct. Anyone else?

    • @tazanteflight8670

      @@tekrit3249 You havnt gathered, enough... to explain it....

    • @tazanteflight8670
      @tazanteflight8670 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tekrit3249 In your text, it says "causing the helicopter to turn and ROLL to the left." So I guess they just accept the roll. This is not a good solution. A quadcopter can yaw, without roll or pitch. You couldnt make this helicopter into a passenger vehicle, for example.

    • @tazanteflight8670
      @tazanteflight8670 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tekrit3249 Ya, I love this design. I like how the whole thing wobbles at rotor startup. I think it is funny how they made it tall, so they could get some reasonable, say 6 foot rotor clearance, on the side of the vehicle, because you cant teach humans new tricks. Someone would get lobbed. The whole design is funny. Watching it work is amazing. i cant look away.

    DIe sind aber doch weniger effizient im Vergleich zu Kaman (Leergewicht zu Vollgewicht Verhältnissweise).
    Die Ursache, dass Kamov so verbreitet ist liegt in dem Preis: Kaman ist viel viel teuerer.
    Doch jeder darf auch seine Favoriten haben, und deswegen wir können uns einigen, dass beide Hersteller machen hervorragende Maschienen.

    Tja doch Kamov ist ein "bisschen" komplizierter als Kaman.
    Ich mein Hydraulik und Differenzial allein sind schon kompliziert, dazu kommt es mit enem "konventionellem" Steuerungsystem...
    Kaman hat dagegen Zugseilsystem und "controlflaps". Einfach aber genial meiner Meinung nach.
