    Excellent review. Just to note: *Guerlain* is and always been a *niche* perfumer. Designers, by definition, make a living out of fashion more than perfumery. Guerlain only does perfume. No sneakers, no fashion shows. But with designer prices. For almost 200 years now.
    Tom Ford is a rare opposite: It was born from a designer opportunity (Gucci & Yves Saint Laurent), but their quality demands premium niche prices.

      Guerlain does skin care too. But yes, Guerlain is niche.

      Guerlain makes a plenty of cosmetics besides perfumery, so your assumption isn't quite correct. I think the labeling of Guerlain as either "niche" or "designer" is always up to debate.

      @@piznoctsauo8141 but they started with just fragrance. Creed also dose body washes and leather grooming kits but it's niche. Basically if their main focus and main source of income is making fragrances then they're niche.

    Hi Joy. Another great video! Thank you. I like them both, but actually got rid of my Tom Ford edp and repurchased the Guerlain. I find the Guerlain vetiver more masculine and classic. Both great fragrances though. Cheers.

    Very fair comparison. Tom Ford Vetiver is awesome but for some reason I stuck with Guerlain Vetiver. That fragrance is unbelievably good and, yes, projects way more than Tom Ford's but not in any way overbearingly. I'll see in the future but for now, Im still Guerlain's version all the way. Someone here specified that Guerlain Vetiver smells much better on skin than clothes or paper. He's absolutely right. The second hour of Guerlain Vetiver is absolutely fantastic.

    Agree, but it sure is close! Grey Vetiver EDP is an A+ in my collection, with Guerlain Vetiver a solid A. The main difference is the modern upscale take on vetiver offered by Grey Vetiver. Cleans it up and puts it in a tux. But this is a STRONG endorsement of Guerlain considering it took decades and a 4x price increase to barely edge past it!
    Can’t lose with either one, and frankly, both belong in every vetiver lover’s collection. :)

    something to remember about guerlain vetiver is it smells different on clothing. its best applied to the skin. its not so great applied to fabrics.

      guerlain vetiver does have citrus andsweet notes. its a freshly peeled citrus. when you smell it on your skin give 5 to 7 sniffs in a row and you will definitely notice citrus and sweet notes. in the opening of course.

    I like both Guerlain Vetiver and Grey Vetiver, but Guerlain is the better one to me in terms of smell and definitely value. The classic old school vibe gives it the extra class compared to the Tom Ford. They are similar though.

    I sampled Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDT and, to me, it smells like a hospital. It's so damn one dimensional and sterile/cleaner like to my nose. I also sampled Guerlain Vetiver (current formulation) and for me, it blows Grey Vetiver out of the water! MUCH deeper, performs better and it smells WAY better to my nose! To the point where I actually don't like Grey Vetiver. Btw, I have a 150ml bottle of Guerlain Vetiver on its way to me RIGHT NOW and I cannot be more excited! One last thing, SOTN is Hanae Mori Him EDP. SO glad I bought a bottle before it got discontinued and the price went stoopid!!😂😂

      NO one's fault you spent your money on Tom Ford and are trying to justify it

      @zsb707 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FSVR54 Yes, I did spend my money on it and don't have to justify it, as I fully enjoy it. On the other hand, fragrances are very subjective. For example, I consider Bois du Portugal a super dated scent, whereas some may view it as a timeless masterpiece. Stay safe!

    So sad that I'm unable to appreciate the scent of vetiver. If it's hidden in a more complex preparation, it doesn't bother me quite so much. If it's the dominant note, my nose is absolutely repulsed by it, in the most extreme way. First tried it with Chanel Sycamore, I was horrified. Almost lost my breath. Tried Guerlain and also Encre Noire, same reaction. The best description I can come up with is a very sharp bitter vomit smell. I'm curious if anyone else has this perception of vetiver?

    • @buzznitnation1305
      @buzznitnation1305 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the vetiver root can have an old wooden chest smell with the metal latches and all. sometimes abit balsamic and sour it can smell similar to vomit i guess. i would suggest looking into vetiver attars. you might find a vetiver you like.
