5th Kyu Test Requirements (USAF) Part 1

Yoshimitsu Yamada, a direct student of O Sensei for more than ten years, is an 8th dan and the chief instructor at the New York Aikikai. Currently, he is Chairman of the Board of the United States Aikido Federation and the Latin America Aikido Federation. He is the author of Aikido Complete and has made multiple aikido training tapes.
Yamada Sensei is well known for his clear and strong basic technique. He teaches seminars all over the world where thousands of students attend his classes.

Q: You were one of the earlier uchideshi at the Aikikai. What year did you start?
A: When I joined as an uchideshi only Tamura Sensei and Arikawa Sensei were there. Yasuo Kobayashi was still in college. He came to the dojo every day. I entered when I was 17. I am 53 now, so it must have been 1955.

I consider myself very fortunate to be taught by a student of Sensei Yamada. Watching these videos I can see the common thread in his style of teaching. My Sensei, Nelson Andujar, displays the same fundamentally sound technique which makes learning so much easier. If you get the chance to train with Sensei Yamada, grab it. If you are in Houston, Sensei Andujar is your best opportunity.

Thank you so much for these videos. I am currently preparing for my 5th kyu exam and they are INCREDIBLY HELPFUL!!! I can watchthem over and over again looking for the details. It would be lovely if you could upload some videos about breathing teckniques, which seems to be a fundamental part of the correct aikido practice. Thanks again Sensei.

aikido techniques are based on contrived situations designed to develope timing,reflexes,speed,and clarity of thought.'Real situations' are much more unpredictable so one must realise this not real fighting or even sparring.When ones training is advanced,one will develope true effectiveness in defending ones self.Please understand it is almost impossible to learn Aikido without a good teacher ,not trying from a video. THANK YOU.
