Complacency kills. Unfortunately some of us learned the hard way. Always love the stories from our guardian angels that help us grunts out. Mad respect Sir!
5:12 The "F-14 Crash Loss List". Apparently after early 2001 there wasn't an F-14 in the fleet that did NOT have the GE Marconi Digital Flight Control System installed. Commander Scott Kelly was the first Test Pilot to test the DFCS on an F-14. During DCFS flight test he actually bent the jet putting it down for an extended amount of time hurting testing. DFCS jets actually required a NATOPS change to prevent damage. Something about rolling G's at certain speeds. DFCS made the Tomcat a much safer aircraft, it would have saved more lives if installed sooner. Funding pushed it back through the 90's. I remember Tomcats sitting lined up on the apron all wrapped with no funding to fix them. Mid 90's?
Word on the street is that the A-10 gun used to rattle so much that the pilot couldn't keep on target. There was a system where the plane could fly itself when the trigger was depressed but Congress said it's too expensive. Keep slinging depleted uranium into the ground all around your target. Finally, somebody told Congress they needed the system to prevent controlled flight into terrain and got the funding.
if this would have been a "wg-10", you would have had us fired, just because were not "as cool as you", you you think your better than us mechanics, who keep your "overpaid", asses up in the sky, where we want to see, what you see......but you "shit" on us mechanics..............
BIO, you nailed it. Complacency is probably what took out one of our Navy's greatest Tomcat pilots after he retired. RIP Snort😢

Dave BIO Baranek speaks of a pilot "Hooter". Is that the same Robert Hoot Gibson that flew and commanded(edit not commended) 5 Space Shuttle missions?
Jon Schreiber! Tomcat legend!
@@jh52663 I'm embarrassed. I recognized him the moment I saw his pic. Thank you for the correction.
We’ve all been there done that get the T-shirt
Which ship was that deployment on? And what year?
Fun fact
The record high temperature for Honolulu is 95°
5:12 All of these aircraft were lost???
