Caution, loud music!
The idea that a mirage is an example of total internal reflection (not refraction) appears to be a commonly held misconception.
Instead, it is an example of “index gradient reflection.” en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gradi... - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
I'll be honest. I searched this

Out of all the things a mirage can be and it picks to be "water" in a hot day

Fun fact

Cause I just studied it in my book and it's worth it

LOL same, I thought I was a mutant of sorts
I always wondered if we were in a simulation and when I saw it, it would be very thin and it only happens on very high slopes and it looked completely black even though I should of saw it. I thought it could be a bug in the simulation if we were in a simulation
For those great ppl who dont know Reason for a mirage to occur : total internal reflection in physics😂
Refraction of light and total internal reflection of light
I think you are greater coz you're watching TH-cam instead of focusing on your case
TIR in everyday life lol, angle of incidence greater than critical angle
No it is not because of total internal reflection but it is due to changing refractive index
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gradient-index_optics
I see this daily here in Florida. We call it Witch Water.
Didn't know that.
Lol
yes all the time in flordia
I am here after 5year from ye comment

And I have searched for this
It randomly pops up 14 years later lol
Best example of T.I.R (Total Internal Reflection ) where angle of incident becomes greater than critical angle.

I’ve never seen a mirage before so this is pretty new
You obviously don't travel in cars a lot.
@@lionfire3359 I can’t drive
yeah fr i barely seen one for the first time recently and it felt like it was just a new earth update lol
It’s early dawn in the desert. The sky is starting to glow with light but the sun is still yet to rise. You’re standing there, looking at an ordinary desert bush. You’re struck by its geometric beauty, the mathematical precision of its fractally-arranged leaves. You feel an impulse to reach out. You run your fingers through its little green leaves. They feel spikey and alive.
I've seen it in real. It was visible when I sits and gone when I stand up.
I’ve seen this all the time. I always wondered what it was and always thought it was oil. 😂
Guess you learn something new every day!
It's a common phenomenon called mirage
So cool hearing other people say they see stuff like this. If I, a Brit, for some reason ever saw this, I'd definitely think it's rain. It's always raining. In fact, it's raining right now. 🥳
@@toomuchiridium lmao
Me 2
As a kid I noticed this-it was so cool and yes my early years were in Miami
This phenomenon is due to TIR that is total internal reflection in which angle of incidence is greater than critical angel 📐and ray goes from denser to rarer medium 🧐
Dhnyavaaad!!
Thx for the video. I was seeing those quite often lately and start wondering if I need a new prescription for my glasses lol 😂
The weather must have been very hot that day
Definitely!
It happens in hot whether only where ñ changes due height
Total internal reflection brought us here lol
However, that is not the phenomenon being demonstrated here. Check the description.
@@mmoverman mirage is an application of total internal reflection
@@anshithaaa7051 It appears that there’s at least one teacher that has their students watching my video who is telling them the wrong thing. Try looking it up somewhere else like on Wikipedia.
Bro i just studied that in class and i searched this lmao
BRUH THIS VIDEO IS AS OLD AS I AM! and i studied it in my textbook, was curious enough to search it online.

Omg I'm with my headphones on and your music blew up my ears!!!😭
Sorry, it was my driving music.
Yes
This is based on a phenomenon called total internal reflection.
Ha chal apne baap ko mt sikha
Not true
The devs needs to fix this bug.
Its almost ten years wait till this get recommended to everyone in 2020
Hi,
Am I allowed to use this clip in my upcoming TH-cam project for information purpose?
No problem, go ahead.
Yes it exactly looks like this, I have witnessed it..
But how are you recording this?
running
Hey people it's due to index gradient reflection and not total internal reflection
Thanks for the support! Seems like nobody else wants to believe me lol.
It is as if someone is trying to catch clouds in hands but they suddenly disappeared..
Im here because i had to show and explain to my coworkers what a mirage is, when we were travelling by car on a hot road today.
This is becoz during hot summer ground will be heated so that lower region has less density and upper region has more density the incident light which comes from an object will greater thaan critical angle so there we can see this mirage
Since you mentioned “critical angle“ you may be confused as to what’s going on here. Please read the description.
I haven’t seen a mirage in forever
Can somebody tell me the name of this song........
Oh is that what that is? I’ve that before lol, I just assumed it was natural when it got hot. Sometimes I can see the heat itself moving in the air, it’s really weird.
This is due to the ray of light travelling at an angle of incidence greater than the critical angle from denser to rarer medium is totally reflected back into denser medium.
This is a common misconception. Check the description for the real reason.
@@mmoverman that only I mentioned its Total internal reflection (not refraction)
Either way, it’s a different phenomenon.
@4tt1 It's Science!
Can Mirage Occur in Winter Season ?
That beat though!
Nice mark you are still active here 👍
I just saw this on the road, so I just searched and found this. Cool!
Glad it made you interested enough to check it out!
You have any clips for looming? I learned that it'll appear above and inverted but all the ones I see are not inverted though!

This is mirage based on the principle of TIR
That is a common misconception. Check the video description.
Having tomorrow physics exam me watching this just before it to have a understanding... 👀
rain before a severe storm, if 1 inch of rain dripped down in nebraska, it can make a very dangerous solution that caused by flooding or a thunderstorm.
in the next day, without the thunder rain clouds, clear skies that make it a difference that if the rain stopped, people driving in highways can see a mirage on the road, when it's the illusion that is so obscure and hidden to see it, it can make it disappear into the road to create the illusion that many people see what they are seeing in rain water covered roads after a rain storm.
i know about weather, like thunderstorms and maybe as such tornado alley in the great plains.
but it's crazy, seeing these types of illusions from earth and the human eye that makes it hard to see what the mirage can disappear when it's gone... or not.
Strange.....
This is due to refractive index is greater than critical angle (I) and large amount n2 molecules in the sky and it leads to mirage...
This is a common misconception. Read the description.
Me too. I know there is one in a movie with a truck if anybody can help me found the name of the movie. Thank you
it actually has nothing to do with science, that’s just the rest of the map loading in
???
chunks are loading...
It's the index of refraction
something really ticks me off about the cars though. beautiful mirage. but i dont like how the cars stare at me..
I used to think this was a glitch in The Matrix
Coolest thing I saw today 🖤
Glad you enjoyed it!

P.S. How did the camera get mirage?
The same way your eye does. No difference!
Mirage occurs due to total internal reflection…
That is a common misconception. Check out the description.
Okay… thank you for the info…
Just now read abt it in my physics textbook.Came here to see it
