- VAN BUILD 06: DIY Window Covers & Insulation
After gutting and polishing the van interior (Van Build 01 & 02), insulating and installing my sub-floor and vinyl floor (Van Build 03 & 04), and most recently installing my maxxair fan (Van Build 05). This video I'll be DIYing some custom insulated window covers for my van windows are well as getting starting insulating the ceiling.

After living abroad in Barcelona, Spain for a year, moving back home to South Louisiana, getting a new job, quarantining through the pandemic and taking adventures while I can, I decided to purchase a van to build and renovate with the goal of traveling around the US van life style as a solo female traveler. This is completely new to me, I am super excited to see where this journey will take me, and I am definitely learning new things along the way.

The point of the silver reflex is so the sunrays bounce off the surface. Now you are only using it as insulation which I believe you could have got at a lower cost. Nice job anyway.

I was wondering- how’d you affix the wood to the upper wall? Just bolted to the metal framing?

Edit: I see in video 10 that the wood is screwed up thru that lip of the original ceiling metal! Sweet! 👍🏽
LOL thank you so much! Hopefully I helped you figure out what to do or NOT to do! Sorry for the delay in reply but it seems like you got what you needed! LOL I considered bolting it to the metal framing, but did not!

Awesome work on those window covers. I failed miserably with mine. I still have to go back and redo them.
Thankfully though, I only have 3 to do.
I sprayed foam and painted over most of them. Just got the two on the side doors and the one behind the driver seat to do.

So is the black fabric not counteracting the whole idea? It attracts A LOT heat 🙄
The windows are already black and tinted so the black of the covers aren’t visibly adding any additional black than what’s there to attract heat
