    Yes and know, first, right hand continental, left eastern, then I prefer not to think of it as lefty forehand because you’re choked up so much you’ll lose swing weight. Instead, righty pull to contact with lefty push and extension past contact, let’s say 80:20 flipped to and after contact.

    One thing that needs more emphasis is the (if you are right handed)right foot going forward. Andre Agassi, who had one of the best backhands in the history of tennis, has a video here on youtube where he shows you his technique. He places big importance on stepping forward with the right foot to bring the body forward through the shot to provide more power.

      Assuming you are a righty, *the top left hand* should be holding a forehand grip (typically either Eastern or SW). This coach is teaching Continental grip for the top left hand. This coach is talking about teaching the modern two-handed shot ala Djokovic. Djokovic does not use a Continental grip for the top left hand!! This coach is a 🤡.

      The body weight moving forward at the point of impact is so important. Good footwork is the basis of good tennis and should be taught first and always! You can step forward with the back foot too though, on either backhand or forehand. Agassi's backhand is beautiful though!

    Coach Gu provides great instruction for learning the two-handed backhand, with left-hand dominance. In particular, Gu suggests using just 3 right-hand fingers, so the left-hand can dominate and result in a smoother, free flowing shot. Coach Gu describes the grip at (9:41)
    I just released a video short of my "extended" two-hand backhand (E2HBH), coincidentally hitting with my new Prince Woodie Graphite 100 that TennisSpin play tested 2 days ago. This stroke uses just the right-hand thumb and forefinger to stabilizer and help align the racquet, with the left-hand slid down the grip against the right hand. For older, shorter guys like myself, this gives me a longer swing radius for greater racquet head speed at contact, while being able to finish sideways or up around the shoulder. Balls are commonly taken at chest height to drive straight through the ball, or with more upward swing for low balls. See the video description for a few more links that illustrate in game play.
    th-cam.com/video/YKIJBsi_KcM/w-d-xo.html
    In 2009 Coach Kyril demonstrated using just two right-hand fingers for the two-hander, but with the hands spread apart to practice the feel of dominating with the left hand.

      Teaching a backhand like an opposite side forhand is so dumb. For 2 simple reasons. Every single professional player hits their forhand with the dominant side shoulder IN FRONT. When Nadal hits a lefty forhand his left shoulder is WAY WAY in front of his right one because he rotating so far to meet the ball at contact. We are allowed to do this due to modern grips, rackets and swing paths. Even on a CLOSED stance forehand the shoulders are even with the dominant side still in front
      Now take a look at any pro players right two hand backhand Novak for example left shoulder is BEHIND the right side (dominant) because it is not a forhand its a backhand with limited body rotation compared to a forhand because of two hands on the racket and the more fixed leg position.
      So when seeing these "hit left forhands" drills like in this video or the ones you link its hilariously dumb because you either see them telling you to hit a ole school side on left forhand laver style which is a shit forhand compared to modern standards. Or the swing it correctly but that's not what happens when you do a backhand.
      Lastly the 2 hand backhand is more like a baseball swing. The power does not come from the "hands" or the arms but the rotation of the racket in a pendulum coupled with torso rotation and finally the torque the hands make right at the end.

    • @maxpowers4436
      @maxpowers4436 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really isnt. Hitting some left forhands in a right hand backhand grip might help but the 2 hand backhand is still like 80% right hand. Its close to a LEFT hander baseball swing. It simply cannot be a left forhand because of your hands are locked to the racket limiting the torso rotation compared to a forhand. Also due to the stretch of the right arm on the backswing and the fact the right hand is on the racket post swing.
      Dsnt mean you cant add some left hand on some bunt shots and some reachers while under some pressure shots. But a tee off backhand is not a left swing. Also take a look at the part where he's like turn your hip and arm back. What left forhand looks like that.

  • @BrockPierson
    @BrockPierson ปีที่แล้ว +12

    lol wtf. The top hand is an Eastern forehand grip on the 2 hand backhand. And bottom hand is continental. What is shown here even in the video with the "pistol" grip is EASTERN. Continental would be the hammer grip like on a serve.

    • @samcpage
      @samcpage ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, and the ball follows the palm so if you're always coming across the body, you come across the ball. It's ok to finish over the shoulder as you'll have a longer hitting window and get more "pop" on the ball.

    It's not really a lefty forehand, particularly for oriental's I would describe the kinetic chain as a karate/taekwondo reverse punch - in which the fist starts upside down like you do in the 2hd backhand, then goes forward taking energy from the hip movement and pronates over. Because the other hand is holding on you pivot around that and get a 2 hd backhand.

    My guess is that Andrew is a higher performance coach and trains people who already know how to play tennis. Seems he has actual no idea how things in reality are nor how to teach them to beginners. If we are going by Novak one of the best 2 handers you can have he has a left handed EASTERN grip and a right handed CONTINENTAL.
    Secondly 9/10 when he is not pressed for time his finish is way over his head vertically so far back that his butcap is practically facing backwards towards the right side of the court. In that sense its more like a LEFT handed BASEBALL SWING.
    Lastly a 2 hander simply cannot be a lefty forhand because SHOW ME a forhand of any hand where there DOMINANT hand shoulder is behind the non-dominant shoulder (talking about forehands that are not under pressure). Every single pro hits a forehand with the DOMINANT shoulder in front that is for a right handed the right shoulder is in front of the left shoulder at contact. Thats the entire point of the modern grips allowing use to hit out in front with more torso rotation vs ole school continental forhands which were hit side on.
    Take a look at any Novak backhand right shoulder is in front of left because its a 2hander backhand that limits the rotation because 2 hands are on the racket. Now take a look at a NADAL forehand dude has rotated so far before he has even hit the ball the left shoulder is miles ahead of his right..... I urge anyone out there to try and hit a 2 hander where the non dominant side (left for a righty) is in front of the dominant side and you will feel how fked it feels.

    2 handed is weaker and is limited in reach and power. Tennis is a boring baseline simple game now. Add to this giant rackets advanced strings and standing on a baseline and what you have is a watered down version of what was once a real sport.

      The majority of the best players in tennis today have a 2-hand backhand. I saw some of the fastest backhands done by pros are 2-hand backhands. The 2-hand backhands get a lot of hate. Bjorn Borg is one of the best players in tennis history and he has a 2-hand backhand. The same can be said to Agassi, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal. You can thank Ivan Lendl for pioneering a 'boring' power baseline game, and that guy has a one-hand backhand.

      @@rusty935 Whoops. Somehow, this video brought back the debate between the one-hand backhand and the two-handed backhand on which one is more fun to play and watch and which one is better. I looked into the forums around 2007 and they are still around today that showed dislike of the two-handed backhand that it is uncomfortable to swing, boring to watch, and ineffective. I can't even hit a one-hand backhand, so I played with two hands. Andre Agassi is my all-time favorite player, so I ended up learning the two-hand backhand naturally. When it used properly, it packs a punch. The guy think that using the two-handed backhand is boring, but the best and most exciting players in modern tennis have the two-handed backhand (think Kyrgios and Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, that was an awesome match and Alcaraz winning the U.S. Open). So, I brought up a one-handed guy that changed the game forever. He thinks that modern tennis as a baseline game is boring, so I brought up Ivan Lendl, and that guy hits with a one-hand backhand and he plays a lot in the baseline, but unlucky not win Wimbledon. A lot of players in the 80's and 90's hit one-hand backhands and they often do the serve and volley in singles. Today's tennis changed so much, so yeah. I forgot that the two-handed backhand was hated a lot back in my teenage years. Some were blunt to say that the two-handed backhand should be banned in tennis. If that's the case, then Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors wouldn't exist in the tennis world if the two-hand backhand was banned in the 70's, for example.
