  • We just launched a redesigned basecamp.com, and we thought it might be fun to break it down, talk about why it's designed the way it's designed, structured the way it's structured, and written the way it's written. Here's the full show and tell.
Questions? Post 'em below and we'll do our best to get back to you. Thanks for watching.

It’s always a pleasure to listen to you talking about your product! ❤ - it’s motivate me to create mine! 🚀

Thanks Julien. It's fun to talk about something you're proud of. Talking about it also reveals all sorts of places where you'd like to improve it further. Recording this video, and doing the walkthrough, gave me all sorts of ideas. We'll be redesigning the HEY.com site next, so will apply some of them over there. -JF

I find these breakdowns by Jason so inspiring. Instead of making things sound complicated you make them straightforward.

There is one thing Basecamp has that is difficult to describe and compare to other products. It is such a breathing experience to navigate, to read texts in great spacious typography and overall it gives that relaxing minimalist feeling.

Thanks - glad it resonates with you. It's a subtle thing, but, yes, go use a few things and then go use Basecamp. There's a simplicity, clarity, and utility in Basecamp you won't find anywhere else. But then again, I'm biased ;) -JF

I really like the idea of a comic up front. It's definitely different from what's typically seen in the best way. My one unsolicited suggestion would be to condense the dialogue a little further and/or make the bolded part more bold, just so it's not all as overwhelming and can be digested at a glance.

Appreciate that. I agree - I'd like the dialog to be a little shorter. It was longer before, so it's been through a round of edits. We'll keep playing and seeing if we can get the same vibe across in fewer words up there. Thanks for chiming in. -JF

Currently in the process of reworking our home page (and entire site in general). I've been studying your website in particular for the last couple weeks, so this video couldn't have come at a better time. Appreciate you walking us through your thought process, Jason. I'm probably on headline number 134 myself lol...

The greatest thing about Basecamp is really that you guys think for yourselves and don't follow trends. It is crazy how every single Saas website looks the same and yet you guys are still doing your own thing after so many years. It's inspiring!

Cool wears off, useful never does. Like most of our customers, we're after useful. -JF
