One thing that always bothered me, how do you know when a painting or drawing is finished, and the danger of not thinking its finished so overdoing it and finding out I've ruined it, like you mentioned eloquently.
Put it away, don't look at it for a few days or however long, and then look at it with fresh eyes and an open mind. It's your art, it being done is when you feel it's done
I'd say that's another thing you gradually discover through making a lot of art. Sketchbooks allow us to take a piece that we thought was done, and push it beyond its breaking point by trying out all kinds of ideas. Conversely, we may not finish a piece due to circumstances, return to it later and discover we actually like it better in that stage. Sketchbooking allowed me to move beyond making occasional pieces and feeling the pressure to make them count. Because that made me either too precious with a piece or I'd ruin an almost-finished piece because I wanted to "try something" instead of reserving that idea for a sketch. Instead, I make so many imperfect pieces now that are INTENDED to be imperfect, and thus make all kinds of DIFFERENT mistakes while exploring and combining all kinds of ideas. This way, I stumble across unexpected ideas or approaches way more often. Do I know when a piece is finished? No. Because you can't "know." You decide. And for that, you need to take breaks often enough to not get caught up in the process. So you don't accidentally keep going beyond a point where you were happy with it. Or conversely, so you can decide whether to keep going if you think the piece isn't quite what you wanted out of it. Or is this one fine as is, and do you try again in a new one. Because not every piece has to be (or can be) THE piece. Treat each one as a learning experience, like a scientist who learns more from each experiment whether the outcome was "positive" or "negative."
biggest word of advice is to not overthink anything, and yeah, it’s SUPPOSED to be fun. i think consuming the little amount of media that i do helps a lot for me to not be so comparitive. I’ve been more creative than i’ve ever been. and the value of a break, not forcing yourself to draw or do anything. let it happen
The chapters are almost like a chronological cycle of the paradox of perfection and the mastery and mystery of constantly expressing yourself as an artist focussed in the feild and the craft... 2nd video and i see alot of what you mean in alot of senses!!! Love your content and see what your going for. RUN THAT SHITTTT!!! I Have a similar battle and love to see people with purposefull dreams shine!! sometimes you dont gotta do it all alone or it be perfect as the truth shines. but this though 5 months ago!.
I am so happy that more and more small creators with art related content are showing up on my feed. 😁 Also thank you for that part about putting out content that isnt perfect, that helped me out a lot :3 (let's see if I can finally finish that art vlog lol)

one of my favorite drawings I've ever done technically isn't "finished" but every time i went to finish the drawing it just felt wrong to change it any way cause even though the drawing wasn't "finished" I was and that's okay.
ive been watching a lot of your videos lately, idk something about them just reminds me of speaking to a friend about random topics just in a more visual way if that makes sense lol. also love the images you use, keep up the good work!!
I've never thought that much of my art. I stopped making art. It's been forever. However I have liked my writings a bit more. You Rock... Love your vids.. Wishing you the best Always...
Wow this perspective is a very amazing one and helps , especially since I like the music I've been creating but it's hard to finish sometimes lol even though I've been able to finish it and put it out that allows me to be open more if maybe I just put out the unfinished idea or show the process
If its with anything i love your editing. yes fancy shmancey aesthetic editing is nice to look at but the videos are realistic i can connect with it more it's all authentic and i love it. You're inspiring me to maybe start making videos.
So inspirational this video! Thank you 💙 this is exactly what I am exploring rn too especially on yt I get scared but also curious … of what can be, when I let things go 💖🌚
Didn't mean to make a second comment but I just remembered. In reference to musicians and their album cycles: a rapper (NF) mentions the same thing in the begining of his song CLOUDS
5:02 real cuz i am a lazy perfectoinist like only in somethings i want to be perfect , cuz i still have not made peace with , that i dont have to rip the page when the art or the writing i have done is not perfect
